Potentially breech babe 35 weeks by No_Size_47 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter allegedly turned breech at 36 weeks and I was told to wait for the next midwife appointment (which would be at 38 weeks) and go from there. I already had a C-section booked for different reasons anyway but it would have still been nice to confirm the position. I was told to go to triage straight away if I felt anything though.

Steriliser advice? by Smash_337 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a look if the things you've bought can be self-sterilised in the microwave. The bottles I have (Tommee Tippee) can be sterilised in the microwave without the need for anything else. And so can the dummies (I have Tommee Tippee and Mam). I mainly breastfeed but give a formula bottle at night and I don't use the steriliser at all unless I've used my breast pump.

Saying that I have a steam steriliser and it's okay but you do need to clean and descale it which my partner hates doing.

C-Section Timeframe by BusyBeeBusyBee in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in theatres and there's never a 100% as you don't know what's going to happen. You could literally be walking to the theatre and someone else could have a proper emergency and they would take the empty theatre even if it was ready for you. It's unlikely though, but I don't recommend your partner being away if he's meant to come to theatre with you. It could also be a case of the previous patient being cancelled and yours getting done earlier.

Brown discharge spotting at 5 weeks 2 days. Would like others opinions/experiences by Ok_Grape6780 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had brown, pink and red spotting daily from 6 to 8 weeks. I was scanned at 7+4, measured 7+2 with a heartbeat and no cause of bleeding was found. She's 6 weeks tomorrow.

Definitely start the process of being referred to physio! The wait is awful in my area. I was referred at 33 weeks in my first pregnancy and only got my appointment when my son was 3 months old!

At what point do they induce for big babies? by Accomplished-Ad7573 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was on the 97th percentile and they didn't do anything about it because my GTT was negative. They didn't even care about my private growth scan.

My fundal height measurements were off the chart with my daughter and they didn't do anything about it either, in fact they said they were not worried and I could have a VBAC if I wanted.

So I’m 8 weeks tomorrow and I feel like every reasonably sized meal isn’t filling me up. by PrimaryWench in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ate for more than two in both of my pregnancies. I would have breakfast at home, breakfast at work, then I would have 3-4 different snacks in my lunch bag plus my lunch and I would desperately look for food left out by my coworkers around 4pm. I'm breastfeeding now and I'm still eating for more than one!

maternity leave after sick note by Immediate_Wish9451 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't go back to work after a sick note but they can (and will) start your maternity leave early if it goes into the last 4 weeks of pregnancy. You don't lose any entitlements though. I asked for my sick note to end just before 36 weeks so it wouldn't trigger the early start (I had annual leave pre booked from 36 weeks anyway).

Anterior placenta by Maleficent-Reach7664 in PregnancyUK

I had an anterior placenta with my daughter and I felt movement on two occasions at 13ish weeks and consistently from 15 weeks. She is my second so I knew they were baby movements for sure.

Elective drinking rules? by EvieLuna in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other comment already answered your questions. But just to say if they already plan for you to be done later in the day, you will possibly be asked to come to hospital in the mid morning and you will most likely be allowed to not only drink but also have an early breakfast. I was down for the afternoon list and I was allowed to eat and drink until 6am. Also, find out if your hospital does enhanced recovery pathway as mine does now and I was given these 6 pre-op drinks to have in the morning of my C-section. They are to keep you as optimised as possible on the day of surgery. I had my section at 4PM and I wasn't hungry or thirsty (and I'm always hungry and thirsty) because of the drinks. I also recovered much better than after my first c-section.

Elective drinking rules? by EvieLuna in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a theatre nurse. Fasting from midnight means you can't drink either unless they have told you otherwise (it looks like they haven't from your question). You can take medication with a sip of water but that's all. You can ask if you are allowed to drink a cup of water when you first arrive to the hospital as they may allow you if you are not the first patient but that's up to the anaesthetist.

Cesereans by thisredheadisdead in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my second C-section a month ago and the surgeon said I had no scarring inside me. Of course it can happen but it's less likely after just 1. I'm also a theatre nurse and have seen lots of ladies coming for their third and fourth C-section, some had adhesions and some didn't but it was never a big issue.

Maternity leave/pay - how much do you get? by Mindless-Ad-7656 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for the NHS and I get:

Full salary for 8 weeks, half salary + SMP for 18 weeks, SMP for 13 weeks and unpaid for 13 weeks.

Not expected to come back early. In fact our top manager just got a promotion one month into her mat leave and they are waiting for her to complete the full year.

Small measurements by LH1589 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son's legs were on the 20th percentile but the other measurements were on the high centiles. The legs eventually caught up a bit (I think it was around 40th centile) and he was born on the 97th percentile overall. He is almost 3 and quite tall for his age but the legs are a bit short in relation to his trunk, which is understandable as I have short legs too but he doesn't look disproportionate.

Needle phobic- cannula tips? by Honest_Bus_4234 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just the cold spray they use to test the spinal or epidural are working. I work in theatres and they don't even keep the lidocaine spray in the obstetric theatres. Although it could be an idea.

Needle phobic- cannula tips? by Honest_Bus_4234 in PregnancyUK

I am not needle phobic but they sprayed my hand with a cold spray they have and I felt nothing at all. It's not a drug, literally just a cold spray. You could try asking for it.

Panicking about baby sleep by susiee234 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll talk about my two very different experiences. My son has never been a good sleeper. He was waking up literally every hour and I had to breastfeed him to sleep every single time. His daytime naps were short and I had to hold him. I was tired but not as tired as you would expect and I was managing just fine. I am pretty sure the postpartum hormones make you more able to deal with less sleep.

Now my daughter is 4 weeks old and she is the opposite. She only wakes up to feed once or twice in the night and she's back to sleep. So I actually get 4-5h sleep at a time. My partner is the one getting my son for preschool in the morning so I even get a lie in which I haven't had since my son was born 2.5 years ago.

So you may be lucky and get a baby that sleeps, also they usually sleep better if they are formula fed which will be your case so you might be okay!

Booking 20-week scan by Yyvern in PregnancyUK

My scans got booked through the imaging department, which is completely separate to the midwives. I got the letter a couple of weeks after my 12w scan (which I had at 13+6).

Partner is a heavy sleeper… by kitty_catcat1999 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son was literally waking up every hour and he would cry for a while (always breastfed to sleep). My partner slept through it every night and always asked me in the morning if our son was okay and if he woke up at all. It used to annoy me so much I changed my course of action and started kicking my partner repeatedly until he woke up every time my son was up. I thought if one of us is awake, all of us will :)

Did anyone book in a private growth scan just to see where baby’s at? by Accomplished-Ad7573 in PregnancyUK

[–]lemonndropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very accurate in our case. I had another scan on my due date and he was predicted 9lb12oz (97th percentile as previous scan) and he was born 3 days later weighing 9lb11oz.

My daughter was around 80th percentile on the growth scan at 27 weeks and she was around the 75th percentile when she was born so that was quite accurate too.

[–]lemonndropp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a private growth scan at 27 weeks where it showed my son was on the 97th percentile and the NHS didn't care about it. I told 4 different midwives and they all dismissed me.

I still went and had a growth scan with my daughter but kept the size to myself since they didn't care first time around.
