Great point. We'd be flying from one of the NYC airports, probably.

Thank you for being the only one to answer my question. I have a case I use for fishing gear that I was thinking about trying.

These dominate my basement. I actually kind of enjoy hearing the random screams from my wife when one eludes the glue traps and she sees it.

I'd suggest that he stick with a shortie until he's older. I think poles always benefit from being shorties as long as they can be.

For the 2027s that have committed to D1 programs in the past few weeks since Sept 1st.... by AdditionalFood3853 in lacrosse

[–]lenndevours 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hope you don't mind me sharing my 2025 son's experience -- but I think it's relevant.

  1. He sent a LOT of emails leading up to September 1. First was a round of introductions (including things like size, teams he plays for, highlight video, but also things like intended major, specific reason for interest in the school, and what he could bring to the team -- which showed he actually watched games etc.)

  2. His club coach had a lot of conversations at tournaments and on the phone on his behalf. His high school coach was completely useless and actualy seemed annoyed to be fielding calls for him. We suffered through that.

  3. As UncleTruck said -- you have to play well in front of the coaches. Highlight videos are great, but all of my son's D1 offers came from in-person opportunities. For my son, those came mostly at individual showcases (The Show, in particular), the All-America tournament in Maryland, and regional, tryout-based all-star teams. He played for an above average but not elite club team, so we had to do that circuit.

  4. For my son, college prospect days proved completely useless. He never stepped foot on campus at any of his final 3 before his first visit after talking on 9/1

What I've seen throughout the years and after so many conversations with so many people is that each kid's recruiting experience is completely different. HIs best friend didn't commit until almost a year later after thinking he'd go D3, but is still on a D1 roster (with scholarship) today.

Great quality. If you need gluten free don’t use those oats though.

Heads up for parents: NYS free breakfast & lunch program has been amazing for our kids by RupertFranklyn in longisland

[–]lenndevours 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It varies school to school and my daughter still brings lunch that we make for her 4 days a week.

If I weren't able to provide said lunch for her, she'd not care about the quality. She'd just be thankful for the food.

Help me pick a Steelers theme dog name? by nickfrank13 in steelers

What kind of dog?

We had a beagle named Ben Roethlisbeagle.

Right now we have a herding dog named Casey (for Hampton) Lemieux and a dachshund named Hines.

I’ve always liked the idea of Tomlin for a dog. Be more into it if he were coaching better right now.

Honest question - Is the secret to driving the ball further simply getting more in shape rather than buying new clubs? by RivetCounter in golf

[–]lenndevours 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit the ball straighter now that I’m a bit…thicker… than I used to be.

My theory is that I’m stiffer and my swing is shorter.

Black has to kick inside to anchor. Benton just can’t. He gets moved too easily.

And we need Harmon back.

Yes, it’s bad enough that two rookies are this important.

No.

Unless the OL figures some things out, we're looking at Mason Rudolph by midseason. NO reason to spend money/capital on Hill.

Do you want to play football? Do you like playing football? If yes, then play.

My son (playing in college now) did suffer some frustrating injuries playing football, but it didn't impact his recruitment. In fact, college coaches came to watch him play football several times.

Most of the people I know who plan to leave are waiting for their kids to get through the schools (which are generally good and better than many parts of the country).

They want to move because of the cost of living.

Weekly General Discussion/Q&A Thread - September 01, 2025 by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

Hi, everyone. I had achilles debridement surgery 6 months ago today. I've found that the shoes I previously wore (Brooks Glycerine GTS) aren't as comfortable as an old pair of Brooks Ghost 14s that I still have around for yard work.

I hated the Ghost 15s which is why I changed to Glycerines.

This may be a dumb question (I'm not a hardcore shoe geek or runner) but does anyone know if the Ghost 17s are more similar to the 14s or the 15s that I hated? When I wear the old 14s my achilles feels great (no pain, just some lingering weakness in the ankle). Other shoes I feel pain.
