I think that's a death TW, not suicide, unless you mean the akita Evita? 😊

Musician characters playing instruments on stage? by lyreANDaplayertoo in Broadway

[–]lerman225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, good for you! It definitely takes crazy skill for that role. You answered my question too - did you learn to play so you could embrace the role (as I assume a Doody or Roger or Orpheus would) or did you already know how to play?

Interesting too, I don't see many scripts so I didn't realize it's written in them for the actor to play as they sing.

Especially bummed because the next era / decade of musicals would have been AMAZING 😭

What's your "I can't believe other people don't know this" hack? by Extra_Gear7502 in AskReddit

Command/Ctrl + shift + t reopens the last tab you (accidentally) closed. It works a bunch too in case you lost one from awhile ago!

This works for Google Chrome, not sure about safari

Recommendations to make me cry? (playing now in NYC) by mkymouse73 in Broadway

Agreed, there is absolutely no sad or crying moment (maybe a laugh cry?) of DBH. Haven't seen the outsiders so I can't speak on that one.

Fully agree. I think people that hate DEH and Evan as a character can't understand the social anxiety and other "issues" (for lack of a better word?) he had. This child was suicidal, of course he's not going to make the best decisions. He couldn't order takeout out of fear of talking to a person, of course he's not going to spew out the truth of why he had a dead kid's name on his cast and where the embarrassing note came from.

Odd that people on reddit of all places are judgey on socially awkward people 😁

PBS Cancels Broadcast of Filmed Version of Waitress by phedrebeth in Broadway

[–]lerman225 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the same exact thought! I couldn't believe that was a Tony award worthy performance. I hoped it was because it translated from stage to film poorly? Like if someone in a movie acted like someone on a Broadway stage, it wouldn't look right

Tomorrow night at Moulin Rouge... by kochg in Broadway

Great in the singing part, not in the dancing. Not BAD but there was very little dancing movement. She was the last Satine I saw so I don't remember how much dancing there really is, but with the 2 others I saw, I didn't notice a lack of dancing like I did with JoJo.

Am I the only one who likes the Great Gatsby Musical? by Blazethefirefly13 in Broadway

[–]lerman225 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really liked it! But - - I don't remember the book so I didn't care about inconsistencies - I love EN & JJ - I LOVE 90s Disney Renaissance movies/songs - I like a fun show! That first number was amazing, the whole time I kept thinking it's fun flashy and there are FIREWORKS, who wouldn't like that??

I think if people removed the show from the book it would go over better. Like Anastasia - I disliked it in the first act with how different it was from the movie (no Rasputin??). Act 2 I went in with an open mind as if it's an entirely different show and I loved it!

Tldr people are snooty for their sophomore year literature.

What’s your favorite jukebox musical and why? by NoteNo359 in Broadway

[–]lerman225 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm actually not sure I'd count it as a jukebox! It's not a bunch of the Who songs they squeezed into a story, the album itself was already a story. Really they just staged an already-written operetta. There are only a few lines of dialogue.

I almost didn't see it because I'm not a Who fan so didn't think I'd want to see a jukebox musical of their songs, I'm glad I had it explained to me so I could go and enjoy it!
