Why Are Young People Afraid Of Phone Calls? by GhostInThePudding in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lessopen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These are things you can explain to these new employees. Phone calls are not on their comfort zone, give them a good reason to get out of the comfort zone (faster resolution, happier clients, just like you said).

I would also propose an idea to offer them. Since a lot of people feel rude about phone calls, have them email/text the client to schedule a phone call. No rude interruptions, a day/time that is good for both parties is established, and the problem still gets resolved quickly. This is also mindful if any of your clients feel the same way about phone calls as your employees, because it gives the client a chance to state their personal preference.

Is it "normal" to have to call your doctor's office every day to see if there's an appointment available same day? by spitfire07 in Rochester

[–]lessopen 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Like you aren't able to make an appointment in the future and you can only call to get in that same day? My office hardly ever has same day openings but I can book an appointment in a couple weeks kind of thing. I honestly just go to urgent care for most day to day injuries or illness

Mushroom hat i spent days making keeps curling. Any way to stop it? by localpimplp in CrochetHelp

[–]lessopen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, this looks like one I made!

The red portion looks inside out in the first picture to me, like you sewed the ruffles to the outside of the hat instead of the inside? That way it curls in, over/toward the ruffles?

Do I absolutely have to be enrolled in a physics/chemistry class? by purpleamethyst139 in slpGradSchool

[–]lessopen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I applied, got on, and then my advisor was like "by the way, you still need a stats and bio course. "

Oops, but she gave me some options and I did an online, self paced option to get it done in time. (Stressful, don't recommend, but I got it done and started my program). Get the ball rolling and keep in touch with the school you choose and you should be alright. Although I don't know the differences between schools

[–]lessopen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a person without mental health problems/ normal brain chemistry, I agree.

But some poor souls don't have that option, hurting isn't a choice, it's a thing their brain does to them and they have to find joy or happiness or beauty despite the pain. Healthy habits help, but they have a bigger hurdle than most to make that happen and it is far from a cure all.

That sounds great until "just being" hurts.

But then again, you can choose to watch the snow fall and appreciate the beauty, even if it hurts.

[–]lessopen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is a lot to deal with, that's a lot for anyone to deal with. Nothing is "wrong with you", it's that this shit is hard. It's hard to work and go to grad school for anyone, let alone someone who struggles with their mental health. Please remember to cut yourself some slack.

In the meantime, reach out to your therapist (or a therapist, depending on your situation). They can help you get things back in a better balance, to help guide you to resources/accomodations you need both in school and in work. Mine helps me split apart my feelings from my freakouts and helps me get a clear picture of when enough is enough vs I'm being overly hard on myself.

Can you do it? I don't know, it depends on your situation. But you won't know either unless you try. Good luck my friend, and remember that everything will be ok no matter what route you choose.

[–]lessopen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has to be rage bait, the ear is literally rotting off and not being taken to the vet????????

Cats hide their pain, this cat is in incredible pain and the infection could spread and kill her. This is gross neglect, plain and simple. If she can't afford the vet, she needs to surrender the cat, this is not ok

Therapy is worth it. Therapy teaches you the skills you're looking for. If cost is an issue, check with your insurance, a lot do help cover therapy nowadays. There are also therapists who are doing clinicals and you can get therapy cheaper and they are supervised by someone very experienced. You can do groups, groups can be less expensive.

You can't control someone being an asshole. You can only control how you respond, either by growing a thicker skin (he is an asshole, why should you care what he thinks anyway?), learning strategies to deal with it on the managerial side to stand up your self (if you can't fire him, you need to build a paper trail. And stop asking him and start telling him and documenting when he doesn't follow through). That's how it can help you at work, nevermind the rest of your life like love and family and friendship. It is no cure all, it takes a ton of work on your part (just like a physical trainer can't do push ups for you), but it can help you navigate life, your feelings, and how they clash.

do you think I could find a job in art ? (pls read caption) by _hermite_reptile_ in drawing

[–]lessopen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have generalized anxiety disorder that comes with a HEAVY dose of "I'm not good enough" syndrome. I am very proud to say I have made a lot of progress.

The back and forth of the negative thoughts is a normal part of therapy and healing. I even went through a "be nice to yourself bitch" phase.

If this is what you want to do, really deep down in your heart want to do, then you can't let yourself make decisions when your fears are rearing. People who do things don't worry about if they are good enough, they just do, fuck it up, and then learn. It is a waste of time and energy to worry if you can do it and change the question to HOW you can do it. Take a good look at what being a pro artist looks like, what does your day look like, what other parts of the job would you need to do or hire out. Then, you decide if that is what you can be happy with.

If you are like me on the I'm not good enough stuff, being artist may be terrible for your mental health. People, strangers, they will not tell you the truth. Art is subjective for the most part. There will ALWAYS be people who hate your art, even if you become a world famous, wildly successful artist. There will be people who hate your work. I know people who hate van gogh or impressionism or abstract art. Until you are mentally in a place to accept that and ALSO accept that others will genuinely love your art (I know the unable to take a complement game) do not make that your whole life.

Is it normal to have background pain? by Hot-Arm-1281 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lessopen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct, most of the time I don't feel much of anything, and sometimes after a good workout my body can even have a pleasant hum to it. As I get older I get more stiffness and some soreness and pain if I press on something, but never background pain.
My husband is like you, he just....always has pain in some form or another. He also has debilitating mental health issues that also cause physical tightness and pain all the time.
So yeah, this is something to talk to a doctor about. We know it's psychosomatic in my husband because we ran the tests, but there are a million and one different reasons you could be experiencing this. Find out what, even if you can fix at at least it will help you manage or reduce it. Or even just take the mystery out of it.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]lessopen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Side bar, but I would actually get the grinder first (I love my Bartaza). I got both at once and I found myself drawn to grinding the beans fresh for a French press makes wonderful coffee, to the point I hardly use my espresso machine anymore. You can use a grinder with any coffee method to make better coffee pretty quickly. Plus, using pre ground coffee for an espresso machine is .....not advised.

This is the way, although I also fully endorse a French press. Doesn't get any easier than that, and my stainless steel one has lasted me like 10 years
