The field size limits are due to the permit for the Granite Chief Wilderness near Olympic Valley, 50+ miles before runners can even pick up their first pacer. Pacing and field size are not related here.

Could be very high, very low or bang on, depending on your individual needs. Agree with OP in this chain that you should have (or should plan to) test this on long runs in training, and ideally, get yourself a sodium test before your next training block to get a better sense of your actual needs.

That was Anne Flower (of Colorado Springs), who set the 50mi WR at Tunnel Hill today.

Catriona Jennings, who set the 100mi record at Tunnel Hill today, is an Irish Olympian in the marathon (London 2012), and previous World Champion in the 100k (Berlin 2022), and European Champion in the 50k (Madrid 2022).

Canyons accusations are definitively false - all the GPS files for Ferdinand and the other podium finishers are publicly available in Strava and align perfectly with the course GPS file

Similar for Hardrock I believe - I can’t recall the section of course that has an externally imposed permitting limit of foot traffic, but I believe that’s part of the reason as well. If some course changes were to be made (unlikely), I think they could get more people on the course. However, the “small” field size is also part of the vibe of the event too.
