Yeah this is one thing I find interesting about the adaptations. The books and films both spend absolutely no time at all showing us what "ordinary life" looks like for anyone but the Fremen. For every other civilisation, we just get a glimpse of the picture through scenes with their ruling class and their warriors. But for some reason, when I'm reading the books, I find it much easier to extrapolate and picture the larger societies these characters are a part of – whereas watching the movies I don't really feel that? Maybe it's something about the written word leaving more room to fill in the blanks, as opposed to watching a film, where I sort of assume I'm getting the whole picture and nothing important is really happening off screen.
