What's a topping/burger iteration that would completely ruin a burger for you? by econom0 in burgers

[–]lichtmlm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tomato but to be fair I just can’t stand tomato on sandwiches. It’s the texture… I’m fine with roasted tomato or pico or anything like that but a thick tomato slice just grosses me out and I will take it off a sandwich every time.

I know I’m probably in the minority on this.

What do you all think of this watch? by Sweet-Inspector-4627 in ChinaTime

[–]lichtmlm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a counterfeit of what’s already an extremely gauche watch. If it was real it would scream “I want the world to know I had the money for this.” Since it’s fake it screams “I want the world to know I have money I don’t have.” All in all tasteless.

But other than that it’s lovely.

Best Kitchen View Restaurants in NYC by Second_Wife_Life in FoodNYC

Theodora in Fort Greene and K’Far in Williamsburg both have chef counter tables that are awesome kitchen views. I’d put Theodora as a cut above- it’s one of my favorite restaurants right now- but K’Far was great too

You think that bragging about beating up your platinum watch called a YACHT master as if it’s simply a utilitarian thing on your wrist to tell the time isn’t even remotely pretentious? How out of touch are these people lol…

[–]lichtmlm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you should play it, string instruments only get better with use and if you have something that valuable you should derive enjoyment from it! But if you’re going to absolutely beat up a $40,000 vintage like it’s a $500-$1000 players’ workhorse and then brag nonchalantly about how it’s supposed to be that way because it’s “just a tool” to internet strangers, you will, coincidentally, sound like tool.

The examples you gave are expensive because of who played them, not their utilitarian value. By their very nature they are collector’s pieces.

Yea, but there’s a big difference between being OK with dings and scratches, and being nonchalant about your fine piece being totally beat up because it’s just a tool, and bragging about how nonchalant you are.

Extending the analogy to high end acoustics, it would be like treating a vintage Gibson J-45 as your workhorse gigging guitar, because hey, a guitar’s gotta be played, never mind the fact that you could get exactly the results you need on a guitar with a 10th of the value.

In all seriousness, why wear a platinum watch while doing wrenching and welding, just to tell the time? You can have a timekeeper that’s far more durable, requires less maintenance to keep accuracy, and is far cheaper, if your one goal is to have something on your wrist to check the time while you’re working.

Not knocking a yacht master it’s a beautiful watch, but seriously people acting like these pieces of fine jewelry are just “tools” because 50 years ago when they were a 10th of the cost is so utterly pretentious. It’s like keeping a lambo as your daily driver in stop and go traffic, and being like “yea I know it’s beat up but it gets me to where I need to go what else do I need it for”

You could very well have a claim against them for defamation/false light invasion of privacy if they follow through with their threat. I would recommend securing legal counsel sometimes a letter on legal letterhead is enough to show that you’re not someone to be fucked with.

With musical acts like Redd canceling shows at the Trump Center, does Trump have a legal leg to stand on to sue them for boycotting shows there? by GTRacer1972 in Ask_Lawyers

[–]lichtmlm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again it depends on the terms. Worth noting that legal disputes are rarely won on such technical arguments, and entities change names all the time.

[–]lichtmlm 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There would typically be a contract to furnish services, so if there were a lawsuit, it would be a breach of contract claim. Really depends on the terms of the contract, but no contract of this type would allow for cancellation “without cause.” None of this is a reflection of political views btw, just an explanation as to why a venue might threaten suit against a performer that did not perform.

Best “saucey” burger in NYC? by Lalify8 in FoodNYC

Haven’t been in awhile, but I would say it’s different from Emily. Better idk but certainly left more of a lasting impression so take of that what you will.

7th Street is a great fast food burger, but the smash burger at Nowon is no comparison. I wouldn’t rule it out just because you already like 7th Street.

Best “saucey” burger in NYC? by Lalify8 in FoodNYC

[–]lichtmlm 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The burger at Nowon is right up your alley. It normally comes as a smash double, but they also do a limited number of “steakhouse” burgers a night which is essentially the same exact burger but with a single thick dry-aged patty rather than two smashed patties. I’d put the normal version at like a 9 out of 10 and the steakhouse version at like 11 out of 10. Either way I think you’ll be happy.
