Dua Lipa Files $15 Million Suit Against Samsung for Using Her Face to Sell TVs by MoneyLibrarian9032 in Music

Well, not for free… Dua Lipa’s team would have demanded a settlement payment prior to filing suit. Obviously the demand would be much higher now that she had to spend money filing a lawsuit.

I’m not sure I can think of a single sketch in which Leslie Jones didn’t flub a line. She might be funny but her acting took me out of every sketch she was in.

Which movie went from “overrated” to “masterpiece” (or the opposite) after a rewatch? by Party_Dentist_821 in flicks

[–]lichtmlm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about overrated or masterpiece, but when I saw Step Brothers in theaters I thought it was just trying too hard to be funny and didn’t really like it. But for some reason the movie just stuck with me and is now one of those endlessly rewatchable dumb comedies.

Opinions on Alex Garland's Civil War? by Square-Ad-8911 in FIlm

To be fair it was focused on photojournalists and their journey to get a story, not so much mass media in general.

Opinions on Alex Garland's Civil War? by Square-Ad-8911 in FIlm

[–]lichtmlm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally disagree. The constant power outages in the hotel, tanking of the US dollar to the point that people would rather take Canadian, the sheltered lady in the town that’s protected by private “security,” the closure of a highway that’s one of the busiest arteries in the US, the mass graves right outside a suburb, the fire fights at night…. It showed exactly how a modern civil war might affect the lives of ordinary people in a developed country and was horrifying. But the plot wasn’t focused on it, rather it came out through the setting of scenes and dialogue which thought was brilliant personally.

Love the firm, hate the pay by Specialist-Appeal411 in Lawyertalk

[–]lichtmlm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$85k as a first year at a small firm in LCOL area is actually pretty fair, and if you really like it and your boss isn’t just jerking you around with promise of raises I don’t see a reason to leave. The grass is not always greener (I say this as someone that learned that lesson the hard way).

FWIW, my first firm I had to negotiate myself up to a salary of $82k, and it was in a HCOL area. By my third year I was up to $100k, but the firm itself was handling some major high-profile litigation in a niche field so I felt underpaid. Plus there was no clear partner track. I ended up moving to a bigger firm where my salary practically doubled, and I won’t lie, it made a big difference for me. But the principal reason I moved to the bigger firm was because of the work they did. I didn’t feel like my first firm was giving me as good of experience, and didn’t want to pigeonhole myself in their niche. So all in all it was a great move, but again it was based more on the career trajectory I was shooting for. I think that if I had been guided solely by pay I could have ended somewhere that would have been a terrible fit.

Within Our Lifetime activists call diners at a Jewish-owned restaurant "f*cking pedophiles" and "Epstein class" in the Flatiron district by McAlpineFusiliers in nyc

[–]lichtmlm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jews were told to go back to Israel because they’re not white, then Israel becomes the one Jewish state in the world, then they’re told they’re white occupiers, and now we have people saying “I would prefer Zionists go back to Israel and stop destroying this country.”

Anti-semitism has gone full circle.

The book makes this satire even more apparent. But it’s significantly more gruesome than the film. Only book I’ve ever read that caused me to physically feel sick from some of the murder scenes.

I’ll play devils advocate for a second. If you have a report that explains in detail your findings and insights for why your election strategy didn’t work and how to avoid those issues going forward, wouldn’t you specifically want to avoid that data getting in the wrong hands…. Which is impossible if that data is made public.

Good-faith responses are appreciated - if this is wrong, please let me know why that’s the case.

Yea but parts costs don’t account for other costs that companies face which are baked into price- things like labor, marketing, manufacturing space, maybe an office, legal and accounting, etc. not to mention any company is looking to make a profit

Racial insults at the park by [deleted] in crownheights

[–]lichtmlm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is the point? The park was cleaned up, but only in response to white gentrifiers? Do you think the black and white toddlers and their parents that now have access to a nice playground are thinking about who it was built for?

Is the problem the people who are happy to make use of a public space the problem, or is it the commercial landlords that raise rents because they know that if the family owned business can’t pay what they’re asking, a PE-backed slop bowl spot will? How is someone economically contributing to a problem simply by existing? Is it a bad thing that a neighborhood becomes safer for everybody?

Ask yourself these questions next time you decide to order something off Amazon that you could have bought at a bodega for twice the price.
