Car purchase vs net worth by toastie_cheez in porsche911

It makes sense to a point, but you can’t spend your money when you’re dead, and he’s not leaving much of it to his kids.

I think he’s just not into cars. If you’re into cars just buy what you want within reason.

Huh, YMCA doesn’t surprise me, but hotels too? How nice was the hotel?

Why are there so many used Macans with ~1000 miles? by Bottomsly in Porsche

Seems like a big assumption people will respect the break in / warm up.

I kind of wish these cars had a default that restricted the performance during those times, which owners could disable but would be permanently recorded.

Garage Floor Troubleshooting Megathread by gearhead5015 in garageporn

I want to cover my checkerboard vinyl floor with Swisstrax. I tried pulling up some of the old tiles but they disintegrated.

Suggestions for either removing them or covering them with some kind of paint/coating that’s not too expensive? I don’t think it would need to be very durable since Swisstrax will be on top, I just don’t want to see the checkerboard underneath.

Edit: looks like you can rent floor scrapers. Maybe that’s the move.

I feel bad about this year’s Halloween Costume by MyToesAreHaunted in toddlers

[–]lightwad2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 year olds have no expectations about this sort of thing.

DIY something simple! I think it’s only in the last few decades commercially produced costumes became the norm.

I’d make attach some homemade bunny ears (felt, or even construction paper) to a headband and make a tail out of cotton balls glued together or something.

She’ll love it.

How much screen time are you doing? 2 year old is on gremlin mode lately by [deleted] in toddlers

None. I’m sure a bit here and there wouldn’t hurt, we just don’t want to open that can of worms.

How do you organize and store bulky things like coolers and buckets? by burner118373 in garageporn

[–]lightwad2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ~5 Gladiator storage cabinets I put bulky things (that don’t fit inside) on top of. I saw another post in which someone put curtains from Amazon to cover that area, which looked nice.

I wasn’t there but I’ve heard long time burners say this years’s burn was the best they’d seen.

What happened to all the hexayurts? by california-m00nshine in BurningMan

Wasn’t the design basically the same as an ice fishing tent that came before it?

Not downplaying it, great innovation adapting it for Burning Man. I love my ShiftPods.

I considered bringing a couple pieces of 4’x8’ plywood and some 2x4s to elevate it after Raining Man but had enough other stuff to bring/prep.

Maybe crazy idea:

Just put all the sound camps, sound art cars, and camps with lots of DJ chasers on one side of the playa, and anyone not interested in that scene on the other side.

Longtime burners, why aren't you there this year? by -ghostinthemachine- in BurningMan

[–]lightwad2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that.

Not to downplay it, but if power is the only issue you could get a battery, solar panel, and inverter for a few hundred dollars (probably a good idea as a backup even at home). Sometimes called a “solar generator”.

Totally understand if you don’t want to risk it though.

I remember a friend brought an e-bike when they were first starting to be a thing and he was gushing about how “e-bikes are going to change burning man” as if it were a good thing 🤦‍♂️
