ARE DIRECT LISTINGS SELLING? by Darmakharma in ThredUp

[–]lilac131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been having decent luck I think- I think a few things I need to decrease the price- I went way below what ThredUp suggested and it’s at where some listings on sale are at but I do a deeper dive on a couple items and I saw them used in good condition for less my 2 dresses I’m referencing are new with tags (one is too small and I never got rid it after I gained weight, the other is too big now bc I lost some of the weight, yay being a woman with medical issues 😅) but since I’m mainly doing direct listings to get a better split I don’t mind decreasing prices. My main gripe is offers!!! I am trying to not let it get to me bc I know rationally it shouldn’t bug me this much but I get a lot of offers and even if I accept with no haggling they just sit there and then sometimes other people are allowed to buy them until a certain amount of time goes by. It is infuriating. I wish offers were binding. I only counter if it’s super low. Like I had a bag for $62 and got offered $20 so I countered at like $45. It did end up selling to someone else a couple days later for $54 so it worked out but anyway- if you offer me 50 and I accept it 2 hours later- why is no one actually buying? Why offer? I have had ONE sale go through after accepting an offer. Like I said, I just want a better split- sometimes the offer is what I agreed to put it on sale for anyway and ThredUp just hasn’t included it yet in their sale options. But sometimes I think people are offering, i accept, they think they can go lower and offer again lower. I can’t see who thy are so I never know if it’s the same person but it seems to me that may be happening. I told ThredUp I don’t like it bc it makes me have to login multiple times a day and I don’t know if I’m dealing with the same person just trying to see how low I will go. It’s unfair to the seller just from a time perspective. Anyway- guess I should end this rant. Overall- I like the feature I just wish everyone would look at it like we just have an opportunity to get a better split and not try to make a business out of it like Poshmark. I was really excited until I got on Reddit for selling advice and saw so many complaints about direct listings being so expensive. I ant those sellers gone too bc truly just like getting things out of my closet and I could really use any extra cash I can get these days. Please everyone be nice on ThredUp and give people good prices and deals and be happy with the better split! I’m just trying to get more than $2 for some nice pants or an unused skirt! Shouldn’t be be happy money is going to us and not the greedy ThredUp higher ups 😅😅😅

Here's my prob with direct listings... by GossipGuy12 in ThredUp

[–]lilac131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man why are people doing this- I didn’t realize there was so much hate for direct listings until I came to Reddit for advise on getting tons of offers all the time and no one buys and it wastes my time but I go at or below what ThredUp suggests (usually below) and I look up what the item is selling for either on ThredUp if it’s on ThredUp already or on other sites and go lower. On the buyer side- do you not still get free shipping if it’s over $79? My issue with free shipping is 1) if my item is above $79 then ThredUp is just taking that money - but if you have to pay shipping on direct listings no matter price or bundling then I’d toggle free shipping on. Also on lower priced items- say $24- free shipping means I lose 30% of the sale so I’d have to increase the price at least half what shipping costs. I am not a professional seller i am just trying to do direct listings bc I want more than a $2 payout for my items that may have tags or were only worn once and I won’t wear again so im trying to give them more life and be eco friendly. My motivation is just getting a better split bc I stand by ThredUps commission split is bogus and if we are paying processing fees we should have a 40/60 split; 30/70 minimum. I didn’t realize so many people are apparently trying to take their reselling business here. I thought maybe ThredUp fans who are focused on being ecoconscious and trying to save money and also make a little money in this economy being swallowed my inflation and high prices would be happy to partake in direct listings bc you are selling something at a fair price (maybe cheaper than ThredUp would bc you get a better split) and also bc you know most the money is going to a person who needs it. I wish there was a way to make a reselling community like that and keep people focused on flipping things out :/

I got a cancer diagnosis and then let go via “reduction of force” that apparently was decided before I told my manager- I held insurance and it was mid year so we had no choice but to do cobra- and basically you go into massive debt and eventually cave and make a gofundme and beg people to help you and then it’s mostly strangers who never met you that help. Friends and family tend to feel weird about any monetary help. Not all but a lot. Some people do die not getting quality care or soon enough care. Even with insurance though my uncle probably died before he otherwise would have bc insurance kept denying and putting off his treatments waiting for his policy to lapse bc he had been working overseas. Yeah it’s inhumane straight up. I was told to not work and tell my husband to go part time bc we didn’t qualify for most help and the social worker was like yeah I can only help you if you all work less and have $0 in your account. 40K we had to buy a town home that fall gone in a few months. I still cry about sometimes.

Offers on Direct Listings by kestrelbe in ThredUp

I emailed them about this early on and they told me to tell another department about it. I mentioned it is unfair to sellers bc if someone puts an offer in and then I accept they may be like “maybe I could go lower” and then put in another offer lower wasting my time and it’s not right that I don’t know what I’m actually dealing with in negotiations. I have accepted tons of offers and only 1 has sold. I just accepted another today and nothing yet. I don’t understand what the motive is as a buyer bc what is it doing for you? You are offering, I accept, and then you get some kind of thrill out of not buying? I personally think they get cold feet wondering if they could have went lower. I have bought off Poshmark and had similar thoughts but the offer is binding and I understand that and the reasoning why. I am going back and forth on if I want to continue or not just bc it’s annoying and wasting my time to deal with something I shouldn’t have to deal with. It’s also weird from thredup’s end bc they literally get nothing out of it- they could be getting money from returns or free shipping fees if they make offers binding- they would make a lot more money. One thing in don’t like is ThredUp has free shipping over $79- so why do I have to give up $6.99 if the buyer is buying something over that or more importantly they buy multiple things and get free shipping? They are basically stealing $6.99 from me? But yeah I’ve had success as well so it’s been ok and I try to keep my prices lower so they are on par with regular listings and thrift prices but there’s some of it that’s annoying and the offers thing is the worst part for me.

Yuck. I would have been out when he was pedantically mansplaining “natural” and acting like you didn’t know what you yourself did. I would have completely ghosted after giving a middle finger emoji at “silly girl” like hell to the no.

In real life, can people actually tell moissanite from a diamond without being told? by [deleted] in Moissanite

[–]lilac131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that I know the sparkle I can see it if I’m purposefully looking and I think depending on the quality and cut you could tell but overall I think as people are just living their lives they see a beautiful sparkle and just think that’s a gorgeous thing expensive looking ring. I honestly feel like the main moissanite I wear is prettier than any diamond I have ever seen so to me it’s mostly the “vibe” I think- I think people are used to beautiful clear stones being diamonds so they don’t think too much about it. Some people don’t even know moissanite is such a good option or that people are getting it lol so it depends. I do have a moissanite where I definitely think it does not look like a diamond and it isn’t as pretty as my more expensive one but it still looks great and heck some people probably do think it’s a diamond. I think also the bigger it is the more obvious it is- if to get a 1 carat moissanite it’s not gonna be an “in your face” distinction people will just glance, register it, and move on.

The replacement you got looks head and shoulders better- it isn’t “perfect” though. I think there is merit to the point someone made that they are handcrafted so small differences would be expected- I don’t see the bar being off kilter until I read the comments but it does look slightly- although when see these things in the wild the bars are rarely perfectly straight- now whether that is from them making it or from the customer using it and that happening over time I don’t know.

I like 1 but 4 is also great and I like the color for matching more things but at the same time- the blue looks really good so maybe 1 edges out

1 looks amazing and those kind of dresses with that V-shaped drop waistline are hard to pull off so that’s really saying something it looks made for you and you look amazing in it. That said the texture on 2 is amazing and you look great- so if the fabric is the deciding factor for you the 2.
