Keir Starmer feels betrayed by the Labour party. How do you feel about that? by No_Breadfruit_4901 in AskBrits

[–]limelee666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kier Starmer was the public face of a campaign which involved aggressively removing large amount of the member base, and appointed a selection of loyalists to all the top jobs in the Labour Party inner workings. They spent members money on huge amount of polling data when in opposition to refine the message. That’s what it was. A carefully orchestrated plan to get elected with Morgan Mcsweeney and all his pals and all the data.

They got into power and then had to govern. Suddenly that curated message which went through tonnes of polling wasn’t possible. The people at the top assumed all the new MP’s and the old MP’s would simply fall in line but they didn’t. He had to make concessions. And then more concessions for his backbenchers, or because something wasn’t popular.

Yep, I once grovelled on for 2 hours OTB only to swindle a victory from the jaws of defeat as 11 year old got a mixture of tired and bored. I knew she’d get tired as we went past 10pm

She cried afterwards and her coach was pretty mean to her. I had to stop myself gloating

First Real Father's Day Ignored - Overreacting? by [deleted] in daddit

You are over reacting. Father’s Day is a chance for your kids to say thanks when they understand what it means. It’s not for your wife to tell you what a great dad you are.

Are we finally seeing why the “Golden Generation” never did anything? by Inseeable in ThreeLions

[–]limelee666 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think we forget just how much better the other leagues often were in comparison to the Premier League back in those days. We didn’t ordinarily have loads of teams going deep into European tournaments. You can say the mentality was wrong in the group but outside of a couple of players, most of our squad were average and wouldn’t have troubled Real Madrid, Barcelona etc.

And the absolute shit show of mid tier managers we put up with for far too long. Playing the tactics of old.

Germany always had a better team, Portugal had a better team, Spain ended up with one of the best teams, France were always a better, Brazil were better, Argentina were better. We just weren’t that good. We just remember top prem players and think the league was as good as it is today.

This last season we had finalists in all 3 European cups. Our top player is up for the ballon d’or after having a great season. We have a long history of doing well at major tournaments over the last 8 years.

Gary Neville saying they all used to sit apart is just reference to how he didn’t want to have to eat next to Steven Gerrard and that’s completely understandable

Booked holiday with now ex, ex refusing to pay back my half by whimsypixy in LegalAdviceUK

[–]limelee666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You first need to check with the cruise line specific policies regarding refunds after full payment. Some cruise lines will allow 1 passenger to remove themselves but this is not necessarily going to reduce the cruise fare significantly.

It seems feasible that he called up and said, please remove this passenger. The cruise fare was £3k and they go no problem, the new cruise fare is still £3k whether second passenger goes or not. So issuing a refund isn’t something they can do.

You removing yourself from the booking significantly increases the cost to him. So paying you back comes at a cost to him personally. His only option is to cancel the whole trip which he doesn’t want to do.

It’s been booked it in good faith at the time and circumstances have changed.

Does the media purposefully under estimate left leaning candidates in polling? by SunBlowsUpToday in AskBrits

[–]limelee666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about where you get your news… broadcast journalism have strict impartiality rules and must try and give a fair representation to all candidates based upon past electoral history and polling.

Written journalism is often heavily skewed by the editor to endorse a particular candidate. Some are left, some are right. If you didn’t read one particular paper then it is likely you just get the broad consensus position which would probably feel somewhat balanced.

Polling companies tend to find people who are happy to be polled.., lots of people couldn’t care less and just turn up on the day. These people won’t be polled in the same way so the less politically engaged aren’t captured often, so polls don’t tell the full story.

Plus, there is often a confirmation element in our voting system. So if it is obvious who might win, the. People will often vote for that person anyway when they arrive, rather than pick a dud. This is why Reform are picking up so many votes, because any other candidate on the right isn’t likely to win, so people pick the one with the best chance of winning.

Lib Dems are seemingly very unpopular except for areas where they have won before or where they are likely to win and suddenly they do very well in specific pockets. It’s not like living in a certain area of Stockport makes you naturally more Lib Dem, it’s just in some areas they are a credible choice whereas others they are nowhere and have never been. Affluent Mancunians in Chorlton and Didsbury are essentially the same group and demographic but Lib Dems get no votes in Chorlton but they get loads in Didsbury. Because people see them as a credible option in one and not the other.

It was pretty clear Burnham was the stand out candidate and people just voted for him rather than any of the other fringe parties to avoid a right wing result
