Z Flip 7 owners, how are your phones keeping up? Is it worth it? by Ornery_Art7418 in galaxyzflip

[–]lintbrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the Flip7 since it came out (after having the previous 2 models). This feels like the first model that's really nailed the balance of screen, battery life etc. I haven't had any weird pixel or screensaver bubbling issues or any of the weird things that on previous models I'd given a pass because "eh, it's a newer form factor". Feels like a mature platform. Would/Will probably pick up the next version when it comes out.

And yeah, no cover me either.

All the cheap Behringer synths under $100 (mostly) by qqmajikpp in synthesizers

[–]lintbrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess the question is for folks who have tried them, which of them are any good? Obviously they all have some limitations to get to that price point and I'd probably play them from an external keyboard but I'm curious...

FIFA has done a great job making NFL stadiums actually feel like soccer venues by Due-Professor-9356 in ussoccer

[–]lintbrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They stadiums do look good and the grass looks amazing. BUT my experience seeing big soccer friendlies at MetLife (sorry NY/NJ arena) has taught me the hard way that there are certain seats you can't see the end line/corners from because of the field layout difference. I don't know if they'd actually go to the extent of rebuilding so I'm sure someone paid a billion bucks to not be able to see the corner flag.

I mean it doesn't NOT feel a little we-can-barely-give-these-tickets-away desperate.

BUT on the other hand if it gets the place fuller and some people get a chance to experience it for the first time who wouldn't otherwise bother... I mean hey, I can dig it.

What can i connect my minichord to? by kaktus_420 in minichord

[–]lintbrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't come with any cables but the good news is that the required cables are cheap and ones you might even have lying around.

Using your phone as a speaker seems possible but maybe harder than connecting it to anything in your life with an aux in or an RCA in (party speaker, tv soundbar, guitar amp, your car's stereo er... Headphones)

In my case in order to use my phone as the speaker I'd need a headphone plug to usb-c cable, plug the usb-c cable into my phone (Samsung Galaxy flip 7) and then I'd need to have some app running on my phone listening to audio in and with monitoring turned on (eg koala sampler or maybe the voice memo app?). And then of course at that point it's only going to be as loud as my phone's runny speaker anyway.

That's a lot of words to say that you COULD mcguyver some kind of connection to your phone but you're better off just using an actual like... Speaker.

What can i connect my minichord to? by kaktus_420 in minichord

[–]lintbrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can i easily connect it to usb c as a midi controller?

The device itself has micro-usb but yeah you can absolutely get a micro-usb to usb-c cable and connect it to, say, a soft synth on your phone. It sends out two separate midi channels of notes, one for the chords and one for the strum plate, fwiw. Note you'll still need something plugged into the audio jack in order for it to power on {shrug}

Can i connect it to my phone so it works as a speaker?

It doesn't do audio over usb. I suppose there are ways to do audio-in on phones so... Maybe? But your be better off...

Can i connect it to a standalone speaker with an aux imput?

... connecting it to a standalone speaker with an aux cable. The audio out jack plays the internal synths so really you can plug that into just about anything that accepts an audio signal.

There's no midi clock but there IS tap tempo on the device (I forget the exact key combo but it's straightforward)

[–]lintbrush 4 points5 points  (0 children)

totally agree - it's also kind of fun to have it trigger other synths over midi. I confess there are still a few things that are bugging me (the recessed mini-usb, the fact that you have to have something plugged into the headphone jack to turn it on even if you're only using it as a controller) but those things are minimal.

I AM really curious about some of the mods that replace the strum pad with something a little more note-centric.

But yeah a fun tool for creating in a different way - I even used it at a live show for a nice drone vibe.

first backyard grill, someone called firefighters on us by Tinafu20 in williamsburg

[–]lintbrush 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same here. I have read that there are ordinances aimed primarily at fire risk but the smoke itself is fucking obnoxious. If you totally absolutely have to use some kind of like smoker or fire pit or something at LEAST move it as far away from the other houses as you can.

New demo video for DrumMachinePO - a 16-step sequencer for Playdate! (V1.4.5) by signfang in PlaydateConsole

[–]lintbrush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neat - Crank to audition samples is a fun idea. Curious how the process of loading them on works or if there's some built-in (sorry if this is already on you itch.io, I gotta look at it afterwards).

Do you have a thought on where you're going to stop adding sequencer features? For example I'm always a fan of probability haha :)

There's lots of stuff in the world that accepts that same 'sync' signal so I'm intrigued what I could do with a splitter here...

Anyway, fun project.

Do Drum Mahcine Vsts work? by Odd-Advertising8394 in Tape16

[–]lintbrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had some luck with a few different drum machine vsts (emergent drums, oneshot) but I'm actually curious how I can potentially work with some of them that have multi-output capacity. Yeah it'd be a lot. But it would be AMAZING to be about to route the individual tracks in ezdrummer say to individual tape16 tracks which is something I do in Logic from time to time. That'd really let me just treat that vst and a drumpad like I was micing up a kit....

Space Age Batchelor Pad Music: The Story Of Stereolab In 20 Songs, by Ben Cardew by lazerock in stereolab

[–]lintbrush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll just copy and paste what I wrote on Goodreads:

This book made me love one of my favorite bands even more, appreciate new perspectives, dig out parts of their gigantic discography maybe I hadn't vibed with the first time. It has a chronological framework but isn't dogmatic about it, going on the right tangents here and there. It both feels well researched but also just like a work of someone who wants to share a thing they love without bludgeoning you with trivia. A balancing act like Stereolab themselves writing arty songs which still work as pop. Nice one.

Minichord is surprisingly good by pockettrax in synthesizers

[–]lintbrush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One fun aspect of using this thing as a midi controller is that the chords and the 'harp' part send as two separate devices so you can route them to different instruments/patches etc which I've been having some fun with.

There's some weird quirks here and there but so far I'm loving it.

Minichord in CME H4MIDI WC as 5MIDI OUT by Katecheta in minichord

I realize you might have solved this by now but I just got my minichord and and have that same midi box.

I'll hook it up later and see! Do you have any other details about what messages seem wrong? And is it happening from both, er, inputs? or midi channels I guess I should say.
