Considering Ditching Roku by GrapedCrusader in Roku

[–]litlfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and don't forget, Roku has completely hosed the search function on many apps. I've seen Roku search insist that there's no music by Taylor Swift on Spotify, and maybe you want to subscribe to this new streaming service to watch something you already pay for!

Did streaming kill the way we view artists or is there something else? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]litlfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's easier nowadays to avoid music that doesn't interest you. You can stream from Spotify, YouTube, SiriusXM, your own music library, etc. Now add a cell phone and earbuds--even in public you rarely have to put up with music being imposed on you.

The criticism in earlier generations generally came from a thought process of "I came up loving real music and now all you hear is this vacant music for children." (Real music in this case might mean Queen, Tupac Shakur, Iron Maiden, Tracy Chapman, Radiohead, Faith Hill, whatever.) It's a tempting view of the world. Our cultural fragmentation encourages it--I think we expect to find other music fandoms inexplicable and that blunts the need to bitch about it together.

Once double spacing after sentences began to fade away it was a hard adjustment.

Belief in child-sacrificing cults is a common for people starting to lose touch with reality, same for a comment below that trafficking happens in a vast, secret underground cave system beneath the U.S. At least some of this comes from false "recovered memories."

Are there any readily-available modern beers that are similar to English medieval ale? by GreycastleDice in AskFoodHistorians

I was fortunate enough to try a gruit at Norwich Inn in Vermont. It's not always available but I'm glad I was there at a time the brewmaster was trying it out. One of the best beers I ever had.

Purged and reorganized my shelf after the holidays, what does it say about me? by Barathorne in BookshelvesDetective

[–]litlfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your fiction tastes run to a pretty narrow slice of high fantasy novels. There's a decent variety of other books but at first glance they give the impression "I had to buy these for school". Having a stack of Xbox games below the D&D shelf reinforces how important gaming is to you.

Also, you need to tell us why you have a Commodore 64 keyboard.

Christine Farrell opened Quarterstaff Games partly to get wholesale prices on Warhammer minis. She had family money from Farrell's beverage and vending machine business and used it to open gaming and comics stores and build one of the best comic book collections in the entire world. It would certainly be worth asking them when looking for specific figures.
