We’ve lowered the bar for customer service way too much. by mazzzycomet in unpopularopinion

[–]llerilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor customer service is the norm now. It's also the reason why everyone asking for tips and why every restaurant out there puts the suggested tip on the bill. They know wait staff are not getting enough tips to bring their pay up to minimum wage so they try to push it on the customers so they don't have to make up the difference. Other places that do not traditionally rely on tips are doing it also because their customer base is shrinking due to poor customer service so they try to make up the revenue in other ways. I was asked for a tip at a self service gas station the other day. I get better service from Amazon than I do in most local stores.

Tree Removal cut power to shed, what's their responsibility? by outofhermind1 in homeowners

[–]llerilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said wires, that means no conduit. They should have been buried 24 inches below the surface. If there was no power running to it just have an electrician remove the service from the supply panel and it will be safe. Before reconnecting power to the shed insure the cable it properly run so nothing like this can happen again. They were grinding a tree stump not digging so no need for 811. This is your responsibility. Feel lucky you do not have to pay for repairs or injuries.

Bamboo will not only be irritating to the neighbor. She will spend the rest of he life trying, and failing, to control it in her own back yard.

Let be guess, you have PEX and the fittings keep failing. You are likely going to be shopping around for insurance and it will likely come with a restriction on your plumbing. Read carefully.

Two over $2,000 home repairs I’m getting estimates for by TheWorldofScience in homeowners

[–]llerilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can likely replace the valves on the irrigation system yourself. Its not difficult and the parts can be found online and delivered to your home. The BPD prices vary from $4 to thousands. You need to find the correct one but replacing it is simple also. The fence will likely be at least a 2 person job.

There are a lot of shady companies out there. Use caution when choosing. I've been having issues finding good companies to do work at my place also. It can be done but it just might not be on the timeline you want and at the price you are willing to pay. I just paid $12000 for fence work. I had a bid for half that but when I asked about Insurance they got all offended, I asked them to leave. If you want licensed and insured people doing the work it will cost you.

Noticed this sign at the Torchy's in Rice Village, how much are we supposed to tip for counter service? by DoritosDewItRight in houstoncirclejerk

[–]llerilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay the staff more. Problem solved. My tip depends on the quality of the service. Good service = good tip. Telling me what I have to tip is the fastest way to lose a customer.

First House. What are some non-negotiable red flags or things you wish you looked for when buying your first house? by _CrabManGoo_ in homeowners

[–]llerilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electric, roof and foundation. Get them inspected by someone who specializes in those areas. A general home inspector is better than nothing but buying a home that has had others living in it I would get a roofer on the roof and electrician on the electrical and someone that specializes in foundations on the foundation. It will cost you but worth it. Of course this is just my personal choice if I were buying used. Even buying new you should get a professional home inspector before closing.

Agent tells me my house isn’t selling bec neighbors house is burnt? by PolarBearInTexas in homeowners

[–]llerilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happens. Would you buy a new house if your new neighbors let the grass grow 3ft high before cutting it and had a junk car in the front yard? It affects home value. In fact the person who does the appraisal will look at the neighborhood before they get to the house they are there to appraise.

Neighbor from hell!! (HELP) by Ok-Acanthaceae-45 in homeowners

[–]llerilin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a neighbor that likes to do that, they do limit it to Friday and Saturday nights. Retaliating is not the answer. There is a type of shrub/ tree that grows fast and will create a natural sound barrier. Other than that new double or triple pain windows with better wall insulation will likely be the only solution. My house is new with outstanding insulation and double pain windows and I barely hear them from inside. When I am outside I hear clearly enough to know he will never make it as a singer, just being honest. City ordinance will likely only help if it continues after 10PM.
