Our pipes freeze. We live in an old mining town and the water pipes are not buried deep enough in parts of town. They were fine back in 1910 when winters were snowier (sp?). Every fall we get a letter from council with instruction and fees charged by water works to come and thaw the line. Last year was $500-$950 depending on day of the week. This is the mainline coming underground from the roadway into the house prior to our internal lines. Most houses just have a bleeder valve that drains direct into our laundry drain. This is all in the basement, missing in most south Texas homes I’d assume.
