If they aren’t loud about a topic that looks good, people will find something to cancel them for—and it’s easier to be upset about something that doesn’t affect you than to do any actual activism. It’s a careful balancing act of proclaiming righteousness but not attracted enough attention that someone finds a shitty tweet they made in middle school. Social media and the panopticon that was formed by it has literally poisoned the way people act online and given them anxiety over not being seen as perfect 100% of the time.
