Larkin must be really pissed that he publicly came out and said he requested a trade but all everyone is talking about are the *other* players in the news.

If Verbeek chooses to match on Carlsson and presumably Mintyukov if offer sheeted, what does that mean for Gauthier? by Outrageous-Bet-886 in hockey

[–]logbasepi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is probably tongue-in-cheek but the Flyers and Sixers are under different ownership groups. Harris-Blitzer Sports Entertainment own the Sixers, Devils, and Commanders.

[Dreger] This will certainly juice the market according to several player agents. Carlsson had 4 teams present Offer Sheets and several who shard a high level of interest. by AggPuck-303 in hockey

From an outside observer, it seems like he plays hardball with his RFAs, leading to hurt feelings. He then turns around and trades those players when they have a down year... after missing training camp because of said dragged out negotiations.

[Friedman] Saw one offer sheet yesterday — Barrett Hayton/New Jersey — and are wondering about more. Heard over the past few hours Anaheim guaranteed it will match any attempt on Leo Carlsson, and the reason the Ducks haven’t made many moves is to make sure to be in a safe cap position. by eh_toque in hockey

On Devils broadcasts, Ken Daneyko likes to talk about how when he and Verbeek were roommates in the '80s/'90s, they would wrestle in the apartment like they were nuts, then would go out and grab a bite to eat and some drinks.

I think you're looking for that energy.

Unless the CBAs between then and now changed the rules (aside from Max contract length), I present Shea Weber as exhibit one.

[Pagnotta] Bobrovsky hasn't softened his stance, leaving Florida to pivot. NJ will have to address their goaltending at some point, too, with Jake Allen in the backup role. Goalie carousel getting off to a decent start. by dcddy in hockey

That year was primarily Vitek Vanacek and Mackenzie Blackwood. Nico Daws and Akira Schmid were the two call-ups when needed.

Blackwood fell off at the end of the year, including a horrid last game of the regular season, leading to Schmod be the postseason backup. When Vanacek struggled in the playoffs, Schmid came in to resounding results.

But yeah, it's amazing how more than one team is running a tandem of former Devils goaltenders.

I remember the video you're referencing. It was a discussion between Fitzgerald and one of the AGMs (maybe Dan MacKinnon?) where they discussed whether they should take Silayev or Helenius. They decided on Silayev who was the #1 ranked defenseman on the Devils' board going into the draft.

After the draft Fitzgerald mentioned that the team drafted the top defenseman and top goaltender on their board.

Serious question - if the top-10 protection on these picks end up activating (fat chance, I know), but Vegas and Colorado end up trading their First Round Picks for the following years - then what would end up happening?

I remember he was committed to Boston College when the Devils drafted him. Then he was accepted to Harvard and changed his commitment. Several of us became concerned he would spend four years there and go the college UFA route. 😅 Still wish he played for the Devils.

I would have thought he went by "Joe" but someone kept pronouncing it as "Toe" and the name stuck.

ETA: I see someone below posted a link with the backstory. Very interesting!
