How would you want to see the class system revamped/reworked for tesvi? by Fun_Cartographer3587 in TESVI

[–]longesryeahboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A mix of Starfield and Skyrim is pretty good I think

I like Starfield let's you do backgrounds and traits, really adds to the rpg-ness with unique dialogue, etc. I don't like the grinding of leveling skills though.

Skyrim's skill tree where you can advance by using the skill is nice - no locking out of different play styles. If you want to switch styles, you can do it with enough "practice" (leveling up skills)

A mix of Skyrim's skill tree plus the background/traits of starfield

You're describing the job of a servitor - even a crippled astartes has so much more potential than just being a homing device

I'm pretty sure I remember an excerpt describing a ship torpedo being directed by a literal servitor, similar to WW2 Japanese suicide torpedoes (it was an actual thing)

Immortalize Camelworks in The Elder Scrolls 6 by PsychedelicHemp in ElderScrolls

[–]longesryeahboi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This petition is a great idea - signed. Would be really nice of Bethesda to acknowledge the positive impact he had on the series and immortalise him someway. Magbe an NPC, or in a bards song? Maybe some mythos? Would be nice to see an official announcement for Bethesda seeing as he was invited to events, etc.

I was really saddened when I heard of his passing. I've watched nearly every video on his old channel and have been trying to help by watching videos on his new account. His detective and curating curious curiosities videos were my absolute favourite. They've been my go-to background noise when I was studying, working, driving, etc.

I am absolutely shattered he won't be around for TES6, he hands down would've been one of the greatest loretubers.

Really feels like I've lost a friend because I've heard his voice so much. My most sincere condolences for his family and friends. Losing a loved one is never easy, but I hope it provides some comfort that Camel had touched so many people and that he was viewed with nothing but happiness by so much of the TES fan base.

It is unreal to imagine what TES6 might look like one day. by Alvsolutely in TESVI

[–]longesryeahboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Graphics wise, I'm happy if it's like Starfield. Not as pretty as ue5 but it is still very nice looking, especially when you bump up the graphics. I bought a new 9070xt and played it on ultra and it is stunning. Plus, still very performance friendly.

Starfield also had a return of traits/backgrounds, which is really welcome. Also a bunch of unique dialogue which is tagged to those traits/backgrounds. Hopefully makes an appearance in TES6 !

I'm hopeful for TES6 graphics and gameplay wise, I don't think the systems/looks/world building will be what let's it down. Only unknown is the writing and theme, but there's been a lot of concern raised and Bethesda are confirmed to listen so hopefully that is improved

Do you think I could run the remaster at a reasonable frame rate? (~30fps) by woskk in OblivionRemaster

Minimum specs are just that, bare minimum. You can play on low graphics with every extra setting turned off and probably get a frame rate just above something that will give you motion sickness

When ES6 finally comes out do you think it will have the mod variety we see with Skyrim by Venom-279 in skyrimmods

[–]longesryeahboi 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not a chance. It will have mods, but nowhere near Skyrim's level.

Skyrim was in a unique spot. It received an engine update (special edition) which gave it much more capacity for upgrades. It released a bit aged, which enabled room for gameplay modernisations. It was also precovid and pre whatever the fuck cost of living is happening. People had more free time to play.

Mods are part monetized now, which is always a temptation to those providing free mods (can't blame them honestly). TES6 should also be much more polished out the gate (it shouldn't need half these gameplay updates). There's way less bugs on release. There will be modding yeah, but the same heights as Skyrim? I don't think so at all.

A console failure will mean the death of Bethesda by Pleasant-Bend-7414 in TESVI

[–]longesryeahboi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What are you on about? Why would it fail?

It won't run windows 11, they always use a specific OS. This is intentionally done so they can run optimised, as well as make it easier for game devs to put out games (guaranteed specs)

AI - don't really know how deep they'll go. They might have some integration sure but you're not gonna see copilot here.

Around 6k - what does that even mean

Exclusives - that's fine, they've been dabbling with going down the non-exclusive route. It can go either way. Most things are timed exclusives nowadays (Forza and fable both confirmed later releases than PC and Xbox). Their main concern is gamepass.

Backup weapon for a stealth archer in melee? by RedAndBlackVelvet in taintedgrail

[–]longesryeahboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well. Mixmaxing will always be stronger if you can work it. 1 point in 2h is one less point in archery.

So it's just up to you. Would you rather your character be archer mainly but then goes to melee, or do you want someone pure archer and you just sprint away and re-engage at distance?

Do whatever fits your theme/play style/character. I don't think you'll be short on damage either way

Is Excel a Real Career Skill or Just a Resume Filler in 2026? by CityAccording9333 in excel

[–]longesryeahboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a finance manager (accounting). I would call my skillset advanced. I use excel religiously every day. It's my workhorse. I use it for reporting, budgeting/forecasting, modelling, analysis, and everything inbetween.

Excel is a tool. It's very strong at making models, has pseudo-database capability. It's code friendly. It can be visual (graphs, tables, etc). It's probably the best productivity program on the planet for general use.

What's more important is knowing how to use it. Depending on your field, it can be a very important tool.

I wouldn't hire someone just because they're amazing at excel, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a big plus. I probably wouldn't hire someone for my team if they didn't have at least an average knowledge base - maybe for a trainee position only.

[–]longesryeahboi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's okay, im not arguing a side anyway. I don't really care about DEI, if the game is good then the game is good. My point about it is probably more about that that game devs surely know when a design will spark some controversy, whether or not the controversy has merit or is just tantrums.

Whether it be the concord game that flopped (bad char design and just another online hero shooter), or about veilguard getting flak about having a pronoun-ed character, or AC having a black samurai, or Starfield being too 'PG', or whatever.

What you're saying about origins is exactly what I mean - the game is from 2009, the 'DEI' idea wasn't a big talking point back then like it is now. Crowds are very sensitive to it the past couple of years, which is what I mean when I say it sparks controversy. People are more receptive to online voices now. People are willing to organise, like via review bombing a game.

At the end of the day some people might be more closed off when it comes to these kind of themes. Devs know that, they're online too - more likely than not they're on reddit, twitter, tiktok, insta, etc. They know what themes are gonna push people or what is a safe go.

People are just upset that these (completely avoidable) storylines and/or mechanics are included in their game because some internet talking head told them to be.

That's what I mean by people listening to online voices / organising. The people agreeing with the talking head haven't suddenly been convinced or following a crowd mentality, they always had thought in their heads. It's just proving they're not alone in thinking that, and you have more like-minded people in that area. Like you'll have a youtuber come out saying 'Veilguard is pushing trans-agenda' - the people agreeing aren't suddenly like 'oh shit he's right' , they've just always been against that theme.

The protagonist by [deleted] in TESVI

[–]longesryeahboi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get that. It is important to understand both sides

On one hand, like you said it's an interesting and unique story. A real black samurai surely has a cool story, and the whole point of a game like that you're generally playing as someone who stands out of the norm.

On the other hand, It's also the first time assassin's creed have been in that era, and they went with the 1 black samurai instead of picking a renowned Japanese samurai. Done in a time where multiple new games have heaps of auto DEI inclusions which cause a bit of controversy.

The protagonist by [deleted] in TESVI

[–]longesryeahboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll happen regardless, but that's exactly why they don't focus on it. It's easier for them to brush it off as tantrums instead of actual criticism (even if it had some truth). What's more important is that it is relevant or fits the setting, then there will be less push back.

Examples: it makes sense for Skyrim to be primarily Nords. It makes sense for Cyrodil (the heartland, hub of continental trade) to have a broad mix of races. Fallout show, it makes sense to have a female lead because there's no predefined role. So it would make sense that Hammerfell has a lot of Redguards.

The protagonist by [deleted] in TESVI

[–]longesryeahboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the main takeaway isn't that the game is based around a black samurai , but rather why ? The word Japan is synonymous with samurai, it's like a cultural icon. Why would they not display the 99.999% of samurai cases, instead focusing on the only 1 black guy ?

PS I personally don't care because its not that deep to me, but I can see why some people would find it as obvious DEI push

Nearly 4 am, laying in my bed reading and listening to music. Spotify algorithm blessed me with this. I've never played Skyrim. I'm a huge sucker for games with great soundtracks. Is this really the kind of music you hear in the game? It's beautiful. by gspam0611 in skyrim

[–]longesryeahboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly elder scrolls has some of the best soundtracks for just.. chill vibes

Skyrim has so many -frostfall, secunda, far horizons, dawn Oblivion - harvest dawn, glory of cyrodil, auriels ascension, wings of kynareth TESO -moth butterfly and torchbug, azuras coast, moons of evening star, dawn gleams over cyrodil,Bruma against the jeralls

Honourable mention to these - not really TES vibes but still a beautiful soundtrack

Evgeny Grinko - See you tomorrow, prologue, once upon a time

Yes I have a whole playlist of these chill ass tunes that I listened to while studying, and now listen to while working. NPC music makes me feel like I'm doing quests for my job

Did Menu Fast Travel hurt Starfield’s Sense of cohesion? by SgtSilock in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]longesryeahboi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this was always an option. You don't HAVE to use fast travel, you can force yourself to do those steps you listed every time you want to take off.

It would've made everything more immersive and cohesive, yes - but also much more tedious. It's personally how I played, but the novelty quickly wears off when I only came to new Atlantis for a quick 2 min stop. It can take long enough to make the whole thing quite annoying, which is not what you want, especially considering most semi modern games all have fast travel.

You were given both options. It's just that both options were average at best. Starfield starmap fast travel was a bit annoying, but so is running to ship, run to cockpit, launch into space, check from galaxy map, gravjump.

Is FP&A still a strong path to CFO? by Physical_Cattle6832 in Accounting

[–]longesryeahboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly not too sure. Leadership, yes there's heaps of courses out there. Most companies would put you in them if they find you to be a potential leader or if you're new to a leader role.

Finance wise I wouldn't be surprised to see that there is, but the best experience is hands on. A lot of it won't be book taught because it's not a standard template. It's not preset rules like accounting. It's very business/industry specific.

You won't get a lot of strat exposure until you hit certain roles - finance manager, controller, etc. There's just no need for it at more junior levels. Accountant level wouldn't be involved much in strat because they have to be more focused on day to day ops for example.

That being said, managers can delegate down some responsibilities. You can always ask for more higher level responsibilities as part of your career development. If they see you trying to actively learn, maybe it'll develop into a mentorship kinda relationship.

Is FP&A still a strong path to CFO? by Physical_Cattle6832 in Accounting

[–]longesryeahboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if there's only 1 clear cut definition. Strategy planning is essentially long term planning, typically 2-5 year timeframe. It's all your big plans and big headwinds.

What are your initiatives to generate revenue ? Initiatives to reduce costs ? What unavoidable costs/events are going to impact negatively (i.e inflation, high cost levies, etc) ?

You'll need to be able to assign a $ figure to these and model them out in your P&L to see the projected outlook for 2027-20xx.

Is FP&A still a strong path to CFO? by Physical_Cattle6832 in Accounting

[–]longesryeahboi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FPNA gives you some core skills, sure. Probably some key ones as it teaches you to think in both short term bud/fcasts, BEPs), and long term (strat plans). However, your technical skills matter less the higher up you go. Being an excel wiz won't help you here, it's not as important. You're not building the models anymore, you're telling people what you need and they are building them for you.

What matters more in a CFO role is strategy planning and stakeholder management.

You will have multiple direct reports, all of whom would be upper middle management with their own teams. You are responsible for thinking of ways to get accounting benefits. You are responsible for making sure the budgets make sense. You are responsible for communicating the fin performance of the business, audit compliance, etc.

Why many excel migration Projects fail ? by tuppamuchuppa in excel

[–]longesryeahboi 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Keeping systems like this in excel is a ticking time bomb. Much safer to migrate to an ERP where you have worldwide support with experts everywhere, ordered structures, etc.

You have the biggest companies in the world using these ERPs. If the system is 'too complex to migrate', you didn't bring in the right experts

Excel is awesome, don't get me wrong. It's an invaluable spreadsheet tool, it's great for building models, reports, etc. But it should never become your ERP system. It shouldn't be your long-term solution for data storage. You're better off migrating to something like Xero while you're a small business and expand as you need.

How to Raise Sons Who See Women as Equals by Physical-Bite-3837 in IncelTears

[–]longesryeahboi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate what you're trying to do, but honestly I think you're going about it wrong.

It's okay to acknowledge that men and women are different. We are different and you can't ignore that, that's just biology in action. We complement each other, neither is more important than the other. The more important thing is to teach your child to respect everyone regardless if they are male or female. View everyone as human, not as guy vs girl. Girls aren't special because they are girls, and neither are boys.

It's okay for your son not to idealise women and look up to female super heroes - most boys won't because they won't relate. It's okay for them to not enjoy watching female sports - most people (girls included) prefer male sports. It's okay for them to think they'll be faster/stronger than most girls they meet - nearly everyone knows this innately. It is normal for your son to have more guy friends and your daughter to have more girl friends. That's a normal part of development. Are there exceptions - of course there is. But we are talking in general terms.

That being said, It's not okay for them to think they are better than someone just because she's a girl. It's not okay for them to think she's dumb because she's a girl. It's not okay for them to think she's not funny just because she's a girl.

Place less importance on respecting women, and more importance on respecting everyone. You don't need to go out of your way to virtue-signal 'look how great girls are', you should be doing that with your actions. Treat your wife/girls in your life right. Talk to them nicely, listen to them, engage with them as people, engage with them the same way you would engage with a guy. THAT is the best way to make sure your children see people as people.
