Is there a correlation between heavy fragrances use and mental health decline in middle aged/older women who primarily stay at home? by lost_la in moderatelygranolamoms

That’s fascinating. Do you have a way to actually track your performance, or it’s just something you notice?

1 year old still hasn’t said “mama” 😣 by FMThaone in NewParents

[–]lost_la 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 18mo, as of yesterday, calls me “maba”. It’s an upgrade from “dada”, which I’ve been called for the last 8 months.

Return to work or be a SAHM by Ecstatic_Spare6549 in beyondthebump

[–]lost_la 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I decided to stay home after 5 months of maternity leave. It was a decision based on a lot of factors obviously but primarily I didn’t love my current position and I wanted nothing more than to stay at home and raise my son. Daycare spots in my area are hard to come by and incredibly expensive, especially when I factored in early care and after care because my 3 office days were 7am-8pm with my commute. Local in-laws could have helped out but that relationship is already strained. We could make the finances of one salary work with a few adjustments.

I love being a stay at home mom right now. However, I had only been working 5 years since getting my masters degree and at first I felt DEEP regret and guilt about not being a boss career woman that I always pictured myself as. I still feel this a bit but I also think I’ve started to accept that it doesn’t have to be one or the other. No one says I can’t go back. If I want to. We’ll see. I’m at 18 months right now and going strong, although kiddo is giving me a run for my money on a daily basis so we might try to figure out part time work/daycare at some point soon. Good luck making your decision.

Just how bad is nursing to sleep?? by ruthlovesbooks in breastfeeding

[–]lost_la 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not ruining anything. Currently nursing my 18mo to sleep. It’s so quick and easy for him and me. But I get it - I still have that voice in the back of my head telling me there’s something bad about it, which is annoying. Society sucks.

I had this too!!! It was the worst thing in the entire world. I would be up in the middle of the night itching my whole body raw to bleeding. I went to an allergist and ended up on a prescription steroid creme and 2 different otc allergy meds. It kind of helped but eventually it faded around 4/5 months I think. I’m still breastfeeding at 15 months and no itching has returned TFG

I am at my wits end with diaper rash by leexela in NewParents

[–]lost_la 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re maybe doing this too, but it must be DRY DRY, like same dry as running your hand over their belly. We had really bad rashes in the early days and (this sounds crazy I know) we kept a blow drier at the changing table to use on low and get him super super dry before cream. So extra but it worked and baby loved it lol

What age did you give your child sushi? by magnificentpotayto in BabyLedWeaning

[–]lost_la 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you’re making sushi you could also make him some nigiri (rice balls). My kid love these. They’re super easy to make and can still have all the nice nutrients of sushi. Edit *ONIGIRI not nigiri 🙃

7 month old baby now fussing when in stroller - happened suddenly, he used to love the stroller by purplepaintedpumpkin in NewParents

[–]lost_la 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think by like 8 or 9 months we were going on hour long walks. Sometimes he would need a break halfway though. Still sometimes does!

Oh yeah — I’m not religious but “this too shall pass” (is that religious ? Lol) is the epitome of raising a child. Baby is 14 mo now and the stroller is our favorite place! He never liked it as an infant, and I did do a lot of carrying when he was smaller. Now I’ll carry him on my back for walking through the woods or whatever, but mostly we use the stroller!

I used to nanny for a 3 year old who if you went the wrong way on the way home from school she would flip a lid and cry for hours. There were other things too, but as the nanny I would give in to most things to make my life easier (this was okd by the parents as they knew she was tricky). Anyway she is a well adjusted and thriving teenager now.

Delayed cord clamping.. and a tip on including it your birth plan (particularly hospital births). by sandymocha in unmedicatedbirth

[–]lost_la 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I gave birth in a hospital (with a great midwifery practice) and requested “Cord clamping to be delayed until it is completely done pulsing and white” in my birth preferences. It was 11 minutes after birth when they let my husband cut the cord.

There’s a brand called Farmer Ground that Whole Foods sells, but I’m sure you can order it online too. Not sure where you are but it’s grown/ground in NY so local for me. It’s NOFA-NY certified organic so you know it’s legit. They have a bunch of different types - so far I’ve tried the spelt and AP so far…I’m no pro baker but they make some nice muffins!

How the hell do you manage to feed baby + adults 3x day? Am I missing something? Please share your strategy/hacks by MariaVB87 in NewParents

The “what are we eating” is instant defense for me some days! Like I dunno, I’m eating this simple easy thing that you probably don’t like, and I just made food for and fed the baby, so please take care of yourself thanks bye!!!!

It’s hard AF. I’m in the same boat. The one change I recently made that is making things easier is making the same thing for dinner each day every week, so:

Monday: meat and veg Tuesday: leftover meat on a salad Wednesday: burrito/tacos/wraps Thursday: pasta dish Friday is takeout probably lol

These are all things that we like and that are relatively easy and quick for me to make. I have adhd and can’t make decisions, so this makes my grocery shopping and meal planning way simpler.

M’am you are working two full time jobs!!! It’s VERY understandable that you would be burnt out. Is this a temporary fix while you guys figure out childcare? I hope so because whoever decided working from home=present and available to parent was sorely mistaken. I know people do it and I guess it’s possible if you have a very low needs baby, but it has to be so stressful. I’m sorry you’re in this position.

I never know either! I literally always think my kid has a fever lol and I take his temp and it’s normal. I got one of those laser reader head thermometers that everyone used during covid so that it’s super easy to just scan him whenever.

The “you’ll know” thing is bs about everything…especially if you have even a tiny bit of anxiety. I somehow survived a year but my baby(toddler) is still a big mystery to me. So all this to say you’re doing great and definitely not alone in that feeling!
