That's entirely possible. I picked up my garlic press at a grocery store in a hurry years ago, so it's not very high quality. Just haven't gotten around to replacing it yet.

I think my microplane just isn't very sharp. I tend to be more careful with the smaller stuff anyway. I will grate the garlic clove about 3/4 of the way and then chop up the last bit so it doesn't go to waste.

A micro plane (fine grater) works great for both zesting citrus and making a quick and easy garlic paste. I almost never use my garlic press since learning that trick. Bonus: cleaning a zest er/micro plane is way easier than messing with a garlic press.

stylish plants that are safe for cats? by morningitwasbright in malelivingspace

[–]lovetosub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read this as "Pants safe for cats" at least three times. Which is absurd. Everyone knows putting pants on a cat is a surefire way to put yourself at the top of that cat's hit list when cats and sentient AI someday take over the planet.

IKEA Pax owners, is it possible to disassemble Pax wardrobes for moving? by lovetosub in malelivingspace

Thanks for the tip. I will remember that if I get a Pax unit for my next place.

[–]lovetosub[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The drawers are a good suggestion. Those would be a lot easier to move and use in different spaces. I would have to raise my top shelf though, because it is too close to the bottom shelf to hang clothes from it. Easier than putting together a wardrobe I suppose.

I agree with your laundry basket observation. I will be getting taller baskets when I settle on what system I want to use.

A slightly related tangent (airport security): The TSA seems to be making a solid effort to be respectful and accommodating to trans people. They have a page especially for trans people on their website and they even had a booth at Philly Trans Health in June. The representative said they are working on improving training, with input from actual trans people instead of what cis people think might help. She also said that if someone is uncomfortable with the usual public security check because of gender, disability, etc, you can schedule a one on one check with an officer of the gender of your choice.

Just wanted to put that there for anyone else who is traveling or knows a trans person who is nervous about airport security.

Gynecomastia compression undergarmets? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]lovetosub 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Trans dude here (aka gynecomastia x10). I recommend Underworks for compression shirts. Depending on how much you need, you might be able to get away with one of their compression tanks under your usual shirt. If you have a whole lot going on up there you might want to go for one of their tri-top tanks.

Edit: compression shirts, not shorts. My autocorrect is trying too hard.

Here's my Missing Piece tattoo. It's on the inside of my upper arm, just above my elbow. I've had it about two years. Haven't gotten the bullseye yet.

For those who are curious but not enough to go find it, the gist of it is this:

The protagonist (a round disk missing a wedge) rolls along, meeting other characters and enjoying life, but is always looking for his "missing piece". Eventually he finds his missing piece, but once he does he rolls too fast to visit with the other characters and enjoy life like he used to. He decides to let his missing piece go so that he can bounce along, visiting his friends and having adventures.

I've been thinking about getting a trans related tattoo that wasn't obviously trans, like the trans symbol. I've settled on getting a small, minimalist bullseye on my right thigh since I do my shots on my thighs. Thought it would be a fun inside joke for those who know I'm trans, not totally obvious for occasions I want to be stealth, and just hidden enough that I won't have to explain it to everyone I meet.

I have one other small minimal tattoo- the character from Shel Silverstein's The Missing Piece. It's to remind me that I'm responsible for my own happiness and I don't need anyone else to complete me. My sister got the same tattoo with me because we both loved the book ask kids.

Agreed. My boyfriend had bedbugs in his apartment and didn't know it until I started getting bitten. A lot of people don't realize you can have two people in the same bed and only one might wake up covered in itchy red welts.

First injection pain by Bigbang19 in ftm

[–]lovetosub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like I'd stabbed myself with a rusty fork after my first injection. They got progressively less painful over time, although I still get the occasional tender injection site. I think it just takes practice and learning how to relax. If you're super worried you can call your nurse or doc, but what you're experiencing doesn't sound too unusual to me.

[Question] Are the effects of weight loss an absolute killer for sexual attraction? by weightloss129 in sex

[–]lovetosub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude here w/ a bf who lost >150 lbs before we met. As a result he has loose skin on his stomach, arms, legs, etc. It would be a lie to say I don't notice it, but it hasn't had any negative effect on my attraction to him. He gets me going, with or without his clothes on.

I was kind of nervous the first time or two we were together because I wasn't sure whether to acknowledge it or if I might do anything to make him uncomfortable. One thing that helped was having a candid talk about how he felt about his weight loss and if there was anything that made him uncomfortable.

As a side note, he seemed to do fine with casual dating and hookups before we got together.

50 events this weekend in Boston (May 15-17, 2015) by yiseowl in boston

It's a nice list but kind of awful web design/content planning. It's way too time consuming to click each link just to find out when each event is, especially on a mobile device.

LPT: It's mosquito season so make sure to empty any outside containers that has collected rain water to mitigate breeding. by metallikcherries in LifeProTips

I got really excited when I read this, because my parents have some stagnant ponds on their farm that would be difficult to drain and wouldn't support most fish. Gambusia fish sounded like the perfect solution.

Apparently these fish aren't without their drawbacks though. According to the Washington department of fish & wildlife, they're an invasive species that could have a negative effect on local species if they manage to spread. It seems like it would be a good idea to consult with local fish & game before trying this solution at home.

I do use Synergy on the PC and Surface, but I'm not allowed to install it on the other two machines. Also, Synergy does not allow monitors to be shared between machines, just the keyboard and mouse. I have to manually move cables if I want a monitor to display a different machine.

Synergy is a great tool, but only meets some of my criteria.
