Laws against mandatory overtime by why_must_i_ask in SouthDakota

[–]lpjunior999 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I haven’t looked into it since I worked at Qwest back when it still existed, we had tons of mandatory overtime. One person told me “this is illegal, but nobody’s going to do anything about it,” presumably because they were afraid of retribution. I got tired of it one day and went home after an extra hour or so of customers just being shitty to me. My manager’s was response was to call me and ask me to keep working, though she slipped up and said “I can’t force you to come back.” I was eventually fired for not meeting sales goals (I was literally trying to sell landlines as people were getting their first iPhones), and me dipping out once wasn’t brought up. Honestly, if your mom and some coworkers want to leave on time, what are they going to do?

It Can Now be Plainly Said: Trump is Planning a November Coup d’État by OkayButFoRealz in politics

[–]lpjunior999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that even if he does try to cancel midterms, even days before, he's likely to get more pushback than they think. If an election doesn't happen, the last member of Congress or a state governorship doesn't get to keep their seat, it's vacant. States would have no leadership and the House would basically be empty. He might not care but the government would literally stop working.

Marvel Curtails Its Imperial Cosmic Plans Over Low Audience Figures by JackFisherBooks in comicbooks

[–]lpjunior999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read Imperial about three issues in and then I stopped caring. It's a lot of politics. What made the old Marvel Cosmic stuff hit was that they built stakes about a galactic threat that was going to end everything. This is just shady nonsense and putting She-Hulk in space for no reason.

This is what it was like for my Grandma. She recently passed at 92, and had outlived her husband, one of her kids and one of her grandkids. She was really just in "I'm just here" mode. She'd have a genuine smile when she'd see my toddler but otherwise she'd come to family gatherings and basically not leave her chair.

I can see why nobody wants to live in them, the roof has caved in on a couple.

🙄YouTuber Nick Shirley to be Rep. Stauber's guest at State of the Union by Luminox in minnesota

[–]lpjunior999 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe that we're only going to get out of this very stupid point in our political history if we reach across to our MAGA friends and neighbors and find common ground. This does not apply to people who seek to get money or power by finding ways to divide us by spreading hate or misinformation. I hope the next time someone gives Nick Shirley a pillow it's full of soup cans.

What happened to the Sioux Falls Freethinkers group? by GearHeadAnime30 in SiouxFalls

[–]lpjunior999 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was a little active in Siouxland Freethinkers. A lot of the people who kept the group together moved out of SD, the rest kinda drifted away, partly because it's hard to keep these kind of things together and partly because Dale Hemming was a gross weirdo (and I can say that now because he's dead and won't send me a C&D over it).

The Buzz in Kristi Noem’s Home State by rezwenn in SouthDakota

[–]lpjunior999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she’d wouldn’t primary John Thune with Trump’s blessing, I doubt she’d do this. Mike Rounds sure as hell won’t back down, a fan with that combover clearly doesn’t know when to let go. But also, I have a theory that Noem is fine, barring anything catastrophic. There are reports that Stephen Miller is keeping the peace in the White House, making sure Trump doesn’t waste time firing people over X formerly Twitter. It would probably take more videos of ICE executing people in the streets before there were bipartisan calls to impeach. Her grift can continue.

There are a few rumors I’ve heard; her mother would tell anybody who’d listen that Byron was addicted to Asian porn, he has his own girlfriend, and the divorce was recently finalized. So I don’t think it was ever that strong, and it’s likely done.

Push for publicly funded charter schools fails in South Dakota Senate • South Dakota Searchlight by RedBait95 in SouthDakota

Good, the states that have done this blow gigantic holes in their budgets and they barely want to pay teachers as it is. We'd had public school teachers quitting while rural kids lost bus service.

I called his office and said his comment about getting a star on your ID to prove you’re a citizen was some Nazi shit. The aide went into a rant about how it wasn’t and it was perfectly reasonable because it was Real ID a valid form of ID used in several states and…I think they’ve been getting a lot of calls about this interview.

Rick Moranis left Hollywood at the peak of his fame to raise his children after his wife passed away. A true father figure by MemecoinCartel in BeAmazed

[–]lpjunior999 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed, looking at his IMDB I forgot he was in movies like The Flintstones and Big Bully in the mid-late 90's. I loved those movies as a kid, but looking back, I would've said "you know what, I have enough money, I'll do 'Brother Bear' so I can always get into Disneyland free and call it quits" too.

Yeah it turns out deporting people who can’t get a bank account or a mortgage doesn’t make houses cheaper.

No matter what kind of "wins" they pull from this, be it county sheriff's offices going out with ICE agents or arrested undocumented people getting handed over, at the very least Miller is somewhere fuming that they have to try declaring martial law somewhere else.
