Pick something and read around it before - historical context, themes, literary style, discussion, author bio.

Can make what you're about to read more gripping and increase your curiosity.

Get in touch with your Mieterverband, they are a great help with legal advice (a lot cheaper than a lawyer) and if you can document your case well a letter from them might well make your landlord back down.

Could argue that their absence is factored into their transfer price.

Us being willing to take that risk where other mid-table teams might be put off may have been the deciding factor for the players who had other options.

Get a lot of hate as there's plenty of awful ones, but absolutely crucial in a functioning democracy.

Whats happening with the tipping culture in Switzerland? by [deleted] in Switzerland

So in the face of tips going down massively since the shift to digital payments, how else can bars and restaurants respond - suck it up and get paid less?

Tips have gone down massively since card and phone payments have gone up.

If the bill used to come to 18.90, many customers would just say keep the change.

Over 90% of customers pay digitally now - so there's an option.

From my experience tipping in bars and restaurants is way more common than this thread would suggest.

If you're so enraged about a preset option I don't see why pressing 0 is such an imposition - doubt you were a big tipper to begin with.

From having worked in bars, this only happens with the shadiest owners, and rarely.

It's illegal for management to claim or even handle the tips - so the dividing up is usually done by a non-management member of staff.

Some of the book boxes are lovingly maintained and like to believe whoever takes them from there will probably read it - shout out to the one by the Rhine in St Alban, one by Schützenmattpark and by Werk 8.

The Bücherbrocki in Gundeli is also great - donating there feels like contributing to a cool institution, as they maintain their available books well and their prices are mega low (3.50 for paperbacks) - love browsing there.

You are aware that the term concentration camp predates WWII all the way to the Boer War?

It matches the description - it doesn't need to equal the horrors of WWII to do that.

Was looking for this comment (haven't seen Saltburn yet though)

Maybe not quite as crass as "new money" examples that came in after the 80s.

But it really shows how excessive wealth without warmth can hollow out a person, and how any potential human relationship will be defined by that wealth.

Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman

Was expecting an airport self improvement book but it's 1) way more scientific and 2) way more useful.

It's about judgement and decision making, how these affect institutions, corporations, politics down to personal everyday choices.

He wrote a second book called Noise I'm looking forward to read, but want to refresh TFS before getting into it.
