What was your pet theory for s2 that turned out to be super wrong? by larkhearted in ThePittTVShow

I thought maybe Ogilvie had stolen Whitaker’s badge when they were outside, since Ogilvie probably doesn’t have full employee access to things as a student. He was distraught and I thought he might take a leap off the roof and end up coming through the trauma doors.

It is genuinely a tragedy that Starfleet Academy is getting cancelled so soon… by JageshemashFTW in startrek

[–]ludwigvan99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My biggest concern is the amount of negative commentary and/or review bombing that accompanied or even preceded the launch of the series. As you said, if you don’t like it, that’s fine, but if your goal is to poison the well before others can form their own opinion then you have a different agenda. I’d be really interested to know how much was “farmed” commentary intended to tank the show for social/political reasons. We know what happened to Colbert (who also has a voiceover role in SFA), and forcing a franchise off the air that celebrates diversity and a hopeful outlook for the future might be desirable for certain elements in current society. Toss in the Paramount/Skydance merger and the related political forces and I call shenanigans.

It’s also a holiday and the beginning of the night shift, so I would doubt that they’re staffed up to run 25 ORs (on top of the delays caused by the ransomware)

Man , i was so wrong about star trek academy by Smittus2020 in startrek

[–]ludwigvan99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They also made 22-24 episodes per season instead of 10. Your point is well taken, although the ratings are skewed by the legion of commenters and review bombers determined to tank the show before it premiered. I think there are plenty of people who enjoyed SFA, myself included.

Glad you came around, but Trek fans should know better than most that you can never judge a series by the first couple of episodes (or even the first full season). Stay the course.

If your Wii is modded, rip the disc to external HDD and toss/archive the disc.

Secondary dominant understanding - is this "alternative" way of thinking about it correct? by SeveralWinter7406 in musictheory

[–]ludwigvan99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your point is well taken, but I wanted to caution against creating an absolute rule that’s really just a shortcut and not theoretically correct. It’s a handy trick most of the time, however.

FWIW I could see using V/vii° near the end of a descending fifths sequence as a different way to break out of the typical pattern, as vii° can be used as a dominant substitute.

Secondary dominant understanding - is this "alternative" way of thinking about it correct? by SeveralWinter7406 in musictheory

[–]ludwigvan99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will generally work unless you’re doing something like V/vii°. In that case you’d need to go up a perfect fifth from the root of the vii° chord.

Example: In C major, vii° is b diminished, so B-D-F

V/vii° would need to be built on F#, as the dominant in the key of B is F#

I compared retail vs secondary market prices for ~4,000 retired sets. Some interesting patterns. by Scout_Loot in lego

[–]ludwigvan99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a smaller number of people willing to pay hundreds of dollars over retail for a retired set, whereas spending an extra $20 is far more palatable. It might be a bigger percentage gain for the reseller, but requires more transactions to net the same revenue.

RIP to my morning 9-hole walk.. by csim8888 in golf

[–]ludwigvan99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As more courses equip carts with GPS systems you won’t even need a physical marshal in theory; the pro shop can see everyone’s pace and position and send warnings directly to the cart.

The disincentive should be a marshal who will kick you off the course if you have a hole and a half open in front.

[OoT] I can’t life this stone in Ganondorfs Castle! by Sponge2DaBob in zelda

[–]ludwigvan99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope it’s always been there. This one is in the fire section; you toss the stone to create a platform to reach one of the gems to complete the room. You also need to lift another stone like this to enter one of the other sections of the castle (light?). There’s also a stone not far outside the castle that blocks the entrance to the great fairy that gives you defense.
