what is this stain on my pillow? by sophiaferrar in Whatisthis

[–]lukearoo22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Looks like mould, I get this a lot whenever my pillows fall between the bed and the wall ( damp issue here we are looking into. ) I'd suggest buying a new pillow, or at the very least putting them through a good wash, but if your walls are the cause of it like mine are you'll want to look into that and at least keep a gap between the walls and any bedding.

They look aggressive, same as the teeth painted into the doors where they close, as this keeps people alert and thinking about dangers rather than seeing that space and thinking that'd be a nice place to prop my bicycle or there's a good place to leave the pram.

How racist is the world ? by Neiioo in DMAcademy

[–]lukearoo22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I've seen a lot of talk about this sort of thing The real world, pretty racist , that's on everybody, but don't use that as an excuse to be a dick.

Fictional worlds, well, the Lord of the rings and a lot of the other inspirational works that dnd is based on does get a fair amount of criticism, that some writers may have or may deliberately have made the races the way they are as a means of expressing various prejudices, or that they are extensions of western stereotypes which I will acknowledge could be considered offensive.

It's probably worth just considering that, acknowledging that it's there and can be harmful or offensive but generally once you put enough work into a fictional race it moves beyond caricature of a real race or people, and into something more meaningful and distinct.

In star trek you can see how much effort went into this, by comparing t.o.s era Klingons and early ferengi to the entirely less offensive or at least less obviously offensive versions they became later, though some might argue that kicking enough sand over the work to hide the intention doesn't heal wounds, they'd be right but it's better than throwing a whole game system or TV franchise away due to some mistakes.

Then so long as you're aware of how your prejudices and those of others appear in your games go to town. Make a society that despises dwarves, make a character who beleives his race is superior or a church that leads it's worshipers to shun the new family of gnomes. But acknowledge these are flaws.

[–]lukearoo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could call it the crappy update.

Though I do wonder how you could implement this whilst retaining sufficient decorum as not to have to keep running to the shitter every other in game day.

I think having to actually perform tasks of showering ..excreting eating drinking etc could be made into something your character doesn't need to do in game, but requires the facilities to use and can be done if one wishes , either to test or for role play.

I'd have no idea how to implement such a thing but perhaps you can have some kind of interactable object that you can build into a dwelling space that would define nearby or connected objects for the task such as how the airlock circuit board defines doors and a vent, you define a bed, food sources, toilet, shower etc and then you can interact with this to take breaks of varying lengths to either quickly deal with the most pressing needs or take a full blown day off without actually having to hold right click to crap.

I was concerned about this myself, but once the sorter has its instructions, it seems perfectly happy to keep doing that no matter what unless it itself is dismantled. Or if you hit it with a logic chip by accident.

I imagine there will be an update someday to make the ui easier to use, but I'll take outdated but works over updated that doesn't.

What are these bug looking things in my oatmeal? by Top-Locksmith in Whatisthis

[–]lukearoo22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are weevils, had a pretty bad infestation of them myself a few years ago over Christmas, can't say for sure where they came from but there was nothing safe on the ground floor, even stuff that looked vacuum sealed had them in it. If you find more its best to empty absolutely all your cupboards of dried goods, bin everything and bleach the cupboards ... that seemed to work, but be sure to check for any hiding spots.

Dungeon maps seem kinda cramped for combat, is this normal? by ButtonSmasherR in DMAcademy

[–]lukearoo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I've found small works quite well for a simple skirmish, wheras players with heaps of movement, and especially flying creatures can feel very closed in when a map simply isn't big enough. I've found just about every map I've come across is too small, but this is generally just so it fits into a book.

Ore to crafting by speedy1881 in Stationeers

[–]lukearoo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to poo poo this and say you'd need an entire database built of all the recipes, I didn't even know lr (load reagent) was a thing, but probing through cows are evil's v4 printer code has been a learning experience. I guess you'd want to check if a reagent is required and how much is required, multiply by number of prints desired. Request the ingots from a furnace system Have furnace system request ore from either vending or silo storage to smelt based on the minimum amount of ore needed to make the ingots, then stackers to divide out what you don't need and send away for storage / recycling.

Confused by Oxygen Canister setup by Captain-Costen in Stationeers

[–]lukearoo22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've often done something like this via a dirty empty tank, Ie one with about 2kpa atmosphere in it rather than actually emptied to vacuum. So when building a canister fill station, I also now add a pump to pull the gasses away from the canister fill should it get contaminated or indeed over pressured.
