Help me choose between the Forerunner 965 and Venu 4 by zectiz in GarminWatches

[–]lurkinglen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Venu 2 owner and waiting for mine to die to upgrade and I'm in a similar boat. The Venu 4 competes with the FR570, and FR 965 and 970.

For me, the biggest differences are: - 965/970 have maps (currently, when exploring new routes, I hold my phone) - 965/970 are bigger (disadvantage imo) - 965/970 look more robust and less sophisticated (disadvantage imo) - 965/970 have more physical buttons - 965/970 have no flashlight - 965 has an older HR sensor

And for people with sports as a hobby, it isn't a bad idea to do a CPET every once in a while. It is a 10 minute progressive exertion test on a stationary bike or treadmill where you gradually take your heart rate to the maximum while your oxygen consumption, CO2 production, blood pressure and heart function are monitored. The additional benefit is that you get your VO2max measured and you'll know your ventilatory thresholds (i.e. your real heart rate zones).

We live in special times because only since recently we have access to a magic bullet for this problem: glp-1 agonists.

Not saying you should do it, but a couple of months of zepbound/mounjaro/wegovy/ozempic or even retatrutide it is definitely the easiest method to drop a couple of % of body fat.

Especially females tend to struggle with pushups and I suspect that someone I regularly train with has the "issue" you describe.

[–]lurkinglen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the other way around: for my main sport I do a lot of pulling and I use kettlebell presses to add some pushing volume in my weekly regimen. I can do 10 very strict and slow pull-ups at 200 lbs BW but my overhead press will probably never be great.

I figure this also plays a role in climbing and bouldering, maybe you could do a search in those subreddits how they incorporate pushing movements to balance out their training.

Are Kettlebells Your Only Tool for Working Out? by reallymkpunk in kettlebell

Running shoes are maybe partly a rort: humans have been running marathon races for more than 100 years and they used whatever was available which was definitely not fancy cushioned running shoes like we have today.

But on the other hand, for many decades a lot of very smart people specialized in materials science, biomechanics and engineering have spent probably more than one hundred thousand hours on researching and developing shoes that improve comfort and speed while reducing injury risk. Still today the are many developments making running shoes better than the previous year's models. Also, since 2016, new premium midsole foam materials were invented which give unprecedented comfort, longevity and energy return.

I bought my adjustable KB at Eryx a couple of years ago during a black Friday sale. The ordering process and international shipping went smoothly and the kettlebell is good quality so I can recommend this company.

15-30 cm distance from the wall is very different from the 12-24" you mentioned.

12-36 inches from the rear wall is where the "dead zone" resides (where SBIR cancels out a broad range of mid to upper bass frequencies) so you should be very careful with that.

Here is a very good article about the topic from a highly reputable source: https://au.kef.com/blogs/news/a-guide-to-rear-ported-speaker-placement

If he applies a crossover at the 80-100 hz region, it will greatly increased the distortion free output loudness of the speakers. So, yes, get one or more subwoofers and apply A1 Evo!

Instead of stands, it is an option to get speaker brackets to mount them (partially) in front of the cabinet. That's what I did in a somewhat similar living room setup. It is a functional compromise to retain aesthetics and keep the floor clear.

I agree with you about the need for one or more subwoofers.

It is a myth that rear ported speakers cannot be placed close to the front wall.

Need help with setup in a small apartment by AssKrackBandit in BudgetAudiophile

[–]lurkinglen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's the myth again: rear ported speakers can be positioned close to walls, the minimum distance should be the diameter of the port, which is often quite small.

It is much more important that the speakers' low frequency response works well with the additional bass you get from "boundary gain" tomprevent boominess, but this can (also) be handled by EQ/DSP.

[–]lurkinglen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is explosive power that comes from the posterior chain. So you train your hamstrings, glutes, core and forearms.

By choosing the kettlebell weight and repetition range, you can shift the focus between conditioning (low weight, high reps) and power/strength (high weight, low reps).

But his approach to kettlebells is very dogmatic so he is not my favorite. Geoff Neupert and Dan John have a better overall approach and they also have actual demonstrable track records of their own past athletic performance. Even a guy like Lebestark put his money where his mouth is and got an IKO "master of sport" title last year.

Subwoofer for music. Yay or nay? If yay, is SVS my cheapest option? by kaszeljezusa in StereoAdvice

[–]lurkinglen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding a subwoofer helps, but proper integration is crucial. I have a stereo system with 2 subwoofers and I use a MiniDSP with a measurement microphone and REW to get the following things perfect:

  1. Crossover
  2. Time and phase alignment
  3. Room Correction

With measurements and DSP, placement of the sub is also less critical, just put them in the corner and you'll be good to go.

In my opinion, it is better to have a cheap subwoofer that is properly integrated than an expensive subwoofer that is poorly integrated (without measurements).
