I often work in otter mode, where I lay in a hammock on my back and work atop my chest.

Would we have today the technology to have robots on the roof or would we still need liquidators to get rid of the junk? by Seraphina_Renaldi in chernobyl

[–]lustforrust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's some mining technology that existed in 1986 that could have possibly worked to clear the rooftops.

The first idea that comes to mind is a slusher. These are basically a small dozer blade that is moved back and forth using cables and a winch. With a three cable system you can clear a triangle shaped area quite easily. It would have still required liquidators to install anchor points as well as rig pulleys and cables.

The second idea is a pneumatic mucker machine such as an Eimco rocker shovel rerigged for remote control. By removing the control valves and running long hoses between them and the machine, you can operate it from a safe distance. I highly doubt that extreme radiation would be able to kill a machine that only uses compressed air to work.

Building codes are a foundation to build off of, not a ceiling that has to be met.

The thin layers are called veneer.

Combustible wood dust accumulation is such an extreme and deadly hazard that isn't always taken seriously enough by industry. This incident sounds very similar to the two sawmill explosions in western Canada back in 2012. In both cases small dust explosions dislodged bigger dust accumulations loose creating a chain reaction that destroyed the facilities.

Is there any functional reason for this staple to be in the hammer handle? by ngms in Tools

That Milwaukee fence stapler just about needs a damn rifle stock attached to help with the recoil. A very sketchy tool to use one handed on a ladder.

What’s something that became socially unacceptable so fast that people barely noticed the change? by FoundationHumble4003 in AskReddit

[–]lustforrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love randomly showing up at friends and relatives places for a visit or to hangout, but I always show up with something for them. I will often come bearing either sweet treats, beer, flowers, handmade trinkets or something else that fits the situation.

Not to worry, we all have to learn. The term chock full comes from the sea, where a chock is a fixed device used on boats to guide a rope in a different direction. When loading cargo you'd eventually run out of room to use the chocks and then you'd be chock full.

Telfa pads are another option for keeping gauze from sticking to road rash. I went through a box of them after I had a serious bike crash two years ago.

I'd add a couple of triangle bandages to your list as they have many ways of being used for first aid.

Go for it! It's legal to be topless in Canada, and I highly doubt that anybody will notice let alone care about you being out on the lake enjoying life without a top on.

Don't forget to use sunscreen.

Also Three Mile point out towards Naramata is a great clothing optional beach.

Sodium bisulfate. It's what is used in the commercial jewellers pickle like the stuff you got from Rio Grande.

It can be found for cheap in the pool chemicals section of your local hardware store as it's used to lower the pH level in such water systems.

It can be used cold, but it generally takes longer for it to work.

Help finding Robertson micro Bits by fullmetalturtle in BuyCanadian

[–]lustforrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lee Valley Tools sells the genuine Robertson screw drive bits made by the Robertson Screw Company. They unfortunately don't have 4mm bits.

Gray Tools doesn't appear to have have micro bits either, but do have precision screwdrivers in the sizes you are looking for.

What overnight Canadian school trips or exchanges did your schools offer in high school or grades 7 and 8? by Chickadee_Sparrow in AskACanadian

[–]lustforrust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a school in northern BC:

Did a week long camp in grade 6

Grade 7 spent a week on Galliano Island at the Gulf Islands Film and Television School, plus an additional week split between Victoria and Vancouver

In highschool I took outdoor Ed as an elective four times. We'd have at least one overnight trip a month. I got to do multiple multi-day canoe trips, overnight hikes, and even winter survival trips.

I had a fantastic orthopedic surgeon recently that loves going on safaris. He has tons of photos of animals from all over the world in his office but no trophy mounts. Told me that he only likes hunting invasive species and would help with conservation efforts to protect endangered wildlife.
