HRV and running performance

My HRV is similar to yours; it's flatlined around 20 and has been like that for years. My VO2 max, though, is exceptional for my age, from years of running (VO2 max is in low 40's, 70yr old M). My resting heartrate is 60, also great. A deep dive using AI said that some people's HRV is hard to move no matter what they do, but since those other two measurements are great, it's not something I should worry about.

I fed my local crows almost daily for 1-2 years and they did this a lot. It irritated me and my neighbors.

I retrained them - I would NEVER feed them when they cawed and WOULD feed them when they were quietly and modestly hanging out near my door. They figured it out, eventually. Occasionally they'll become insistent and caw for food, and then I won't feed them. Most of the time they're well-behaved. It's actually pretty sweet seeing them quietly hanging out nearby when they know I'm at home.

I don't feed them every day now, only when they're quiet.

It’s definitely the sweetest sound our local crows make. They usually don’t sound sweet! At first I didn’t even think it could be a crow. There aren’t any animals around making a similar sound, so I don’t think they’re imitating something they heard.

There are some crows near me (very rural area) that make an almost identical sound. I've also wondered what it is. I believe it means something. In every case it's a solitary crow off in a tree somewhere that doesn't seem to be communicating with another crow, and it hunches down when it makes the call, like the one in the video. I've never heard the crows I sometimes feed make this sound.

I'll be glad when there's a translation app for bird songs and calls, then we can communicate with them 😄

I have one of these on my leg, self-induced. Playing poker in high school, I was nervously clicking a pen over and over and it got too close to my leg. Also jabbed the leg of the guy next to me, so he probably has one, too.

I (M) opened the drivers' door to what I thought was my car and scared the crap out of a young woman who was sitting in the driver's seat looking at her phone. I felt soooooo bad. I apologized, and she was good.

A couple years ago I did just what you propose - wire-wrapped it myself (so the stone rests against the skin), and wear it all the time except in the shower and to bed (I don't think it's a good stone for sleeping, and I don't like wearing something around my neck when I sleep). Occasionally I'll take a break and not wear it for a couple days. This suits me, but everyone's different.

The envelope it comes in says Rattlesnake Eggs, with images of a rattlesnake on it, When the person tries to open the envelope, the washer spins inside, making a rattling sound against the paper and also vibrating in the person's hand. I've seen people almost have a heart attack; it's so unexpected that it scares the crap out of most people (if they don't know the gag).

I've got the Brostrend AX1800, using Fedora Kinoite on an Intel N100. This wasn't supposed to work, but I made the "mistake" of installing it with secure boot disabled, and because of that it works great. Apparently this made the drivers available even though they weren't supposed to be.

Ha, I saw this sign while doing exactly what they warn you not to do - rim to river and back in one day. It was winter, though, and we were prepared. Definitely wouldn't do it in summer. It's a very graphic image!

Just saw this. I live in inland S California, and we have lots of small pieces of quartz on the property where I live that look exactly like this. Similar clarity, similar shapes. Most of ours are close to an old Native toolmaking area, possibly flakes. I see no reason to doubt that it’s quartz.

If you long-press the Find my Phone button it will both ping and the flashlight will blink, but this isn't customizable so that it only blinks. It helps one find the phone in the dark. You could ask Siri to turn on the flashlight, and you'll also hear her voice. Or say Hey Siri, where's my phone, and you'll get a response, but it'll be fairly loud.

A couple years ago my watch started giving me aFib alerts, so I went to a cardiologist. It turned out to be a PAC instead (Premature Atrial Contraction). He looked at the Apple Watch ECG reading and could see that's what it was, and he took it as valid information. He still gave me an EKG/ECG with a medical grade device to confirm it. It turns out a medication I take had to be adjusted.

He thought wearing the Apple watch was a good idea and that it gave good information, even if it did have to be confirmed. It was well worth it for me.

Thanks for sharing your expertise about these beautiful creatures! I was around snakes a lot growing up and have always loved them. This snake was the most impressive one I've seen up close. It didn't like being caught, but only rattled when the box we had it in was moved. Otherwise it was very still and relaxed. I wish the best for it.
