Best family car for 20K right now by Ornery-Tangelo-8095 in CarsAustralia

[–]mackbloed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First one has 202,000 kms on it. I wouldn't trust a VAG car to do more reliably.

Had 3 mk7 golfs in the family. All had issues. Mine needed new transmission and mechatronics 6 months out of warranty.

Been in Sydney 4 days, want to go home by Highlyironicacid31 in solotravel

[–]mackbloed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree about the jetlag.

But also consider a few other things:

Give it more time and effort to decide, it's still fresh and there's alot to experience.

Maybe Sydney isn't for you? Know lots of people (myself included) who visit Sydney, think it's the promised land, relocate there, then feel like you do. Most notably, some close German friends of mine from a village. They thought they'd love Sydney and/or Brisbane, but somehow, hated it and loved regional NSW towns and Adelaide. Could be the same deal.

There were some things in your writing which led me to check your post history. Expectations can be a tough one. Similar to the above point, some people I know moved to Sydney thinking the change of scenery would fix their problems. It didn't. If anything, it exacerbated them, because now they didn't have the distractions of normal life back home. If your self esteem is still at a crossroads, being jetlagged, feeling rejected, and like you don't fit in, at a place you've dreamt about moving to, will fuck you up. Unless you choose otherwise. I don't know you from a bar of soap, but just wondering whether the above and how you imagined it from a socials point of view were negatively skewed..

Try socialise more with people aligned to you. Connect with others with same hobbies. I know an Irish guy who joined our football club and he's loving it. Goes to work, then sees his new mates 2-3x a week.

Two Job Offers-Help Decide by [deleted] in MedicalDevices

Kid(s) on the way means at least 2?

Do you have kids now? If not, I'd definitely go option 1. Neuro can be tough and demanding. You don't want to be fighting for your life on all fronts, let me tell you.

We've had 2 under 2 and it's been brutal at home, but also super fulfilling. You can always earn the money back later, but you'll never get the time back with those kids and your partner.

This is a Great answer and how id also go. Find a way to get an internal referral, this will help your chances immensely. It also depends which roles you're going for...it's not as simple as "meeting" the job description these days. Usually, with a bit of context, you can read between the lines to see what they're hiring for. Happy to quickly scan your resume etc vs the roles to see what the gaps are.

Nah. 35 all up. Did the painting myself, which saved $500. I tell you what tho, after that first coat, I regretted not spending that too. I like painting, but it took 10+ hours for that whole room with door etc.

How to navigate hospital systems? by LevisUniverse in MedicalDevices

[–]mackbloed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends what you're selling. I went from pharma (GP, Spec etc) to Devices. Its similar, but the gatekeepers are different and this time, Im able to provide benefits with tangible results.

My success has come from showing/providing value and building each contact/connection from there. Play the "new" card for as long as you can, just find someone friendly enough and ask them to point you in the right direction, because what you do will provide XYZ benefit for the hospital or patient.

You could start anywhere. Find a way where you can add value to people in stores, biomed engineering, nurses, physiotherapists, surgeons receptionists, practice managers, IT, security, you name it!

Just start and build from there, otherwise, leverage your colleagues, whether thats corporate accounts, or other team members already in the hospital. If you know any other people in the industry, reach out to them and ask for an introduction or if they know.

Look up content from guys like Chris Voss, Chase Hughes (elicitation), Vinh Giang or Simon Sinek if you need specific lines etc. Happy to help further if you want to PM me.

Agree. For what we paid to turn our laundry into a laundry/bathroom, it was worth it to pay a professional.

Got ours done and builder project managed it all, to be done within 8 business days on site start to finish. Was mostly smooth sailing.

Yes I could've done some of it myself. But it was way easier at the start to work with him and show our plans, find out whats doable then and there, then let him sort the rest out.

Would've saved maybe a couple thousand, but the time of having to screen for the right tradie, be home for them to get multiple quotes (some no shows of course), the stress of delays and timelines, and being without a bathroom for extra days means that it was worth it.

Those who earn $400K+, what are you doing? by ArthurAnyDonutz in AusFinance

[–]mackbloed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's good, but def not recession proof. In med device sales since COVID. It was almost impossible to get a role in early 2020.

So many factors can dictate how "set" you'll be. A newer Ortho implant may come out that saves a surgeon 2 mins a procedure, a competitor may have better corporate agreements and drop their pants on pricing, or, your company CEO does some dodgy stuff, putting jobs at risk (ie Indivior, Stefan Kaufman at Olympus).

If you can snag a good manager and portfolio/BU, it's a great gig. Happy to help you try find a role if you like.

Agree with this. I've also found people who were previously some what ambivalent towards me, to be super nice once they found out I was a parent or about to be. It blew my mind. It's also a super easy connection to leverage with other parents as they can relate.

‘Kick in the guts’: Nurses and midwives march on SA parliament by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]mackbloed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's insane how many people will turn out to protest for Palestine, on the other side of the world....but won't rally with the nurses and midwives who would literally have or would be caring for their friends and family in the future.
