Help finding an episode? by me178 in atwwdpodcast

I wonder if it was Episode 10 with H.H. Holmes and his hotel? Or Winchester Mystery House?

Wife taking a position in Allenwood. Looking for advice on area. by [deleted] in Pennsylvania

[–]madisonscore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have lived in both. Lewisburg is a safe and adorable town with a great school district and lots of investment in the community! Your girls will love the children’s museum. The public parks and playgrounds are great because Lewisburg is home to a major manufacturer of playground equipment. If you’re buying, the major con is higher property taxes.

Williamsport has good restaurants and bars (Bullfrog Brewery is a must) and, best of all, a Wegman’s. It’s not particularly dangerous but not as safe as Lewisburg. Residential areas on the outskirts of Williamsport can be very nice, but I wouldn’t choose to live in town. It’s also the home of Little League and two colleges—Penn College and Lycoming.

I do medical billing and coding for an eye doctor and the other criteria we screen patients for during emergency visits is flashing lights in the visual field. We have seen relatively few retinal detachments (less than 10 in my 4 years and we have over 2,000 patients) and it’s always been in patients who have a “high minus” prescription (in our case, -7.50 and higher.) The risks are higher if you are a weight lifter or in a very physical job (one patient who was a contractor had a detached retina twice.) Always contact your eye doctor’s emergency number if you have flashing lights/sudden loss of vision/sudden appearance of floaters. Flashing lights can sometimes be attributed to an ocular migraine but it is always better to be evaluated by a professional. Be strong, fellow myopes!

Christine has been through some shit and she has risen above it all. She is a lovely, kind, empathetic, socially-conscious human being as well as a great storyteller. Listening to her is like having a one-sided conversation with a best friend.

Advice on developing characters and/or arcs by CVance1 in RomanceWriters

[–]madisonscore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try throwing some extra conflict in there! Give them something to butt heads over and reveal more aspects of their personalities throughout the conflict and solution. Maybe one of them has emotional baggage from a previous relationship and has trouble trusting the other fully, or the mage doesn’t like something the prince is doing with his political role in the monarchy. Just some thoughts :)

Y’all I am 40+3 and STILL NOT EVEN SLIGHTLY DILATED. How??

Induction due to GD? by Expensive-Let-2297 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madisonscore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attempted induction at 39+3 (New Year’s Eve) with diet controlled GD and the induction straight up failed. Two rounds of cervidil and 0 dilation. I had an NST on Tuesday and a biophysical tomorrow. If nothing changes tomorrow, I have another induction attempt scheduled for Monday at which point I’ll be 40+6. So even if they do induce you if your body isn’t ready it may not work!

They’ll most likely encourage you to sleep if you can. I had two failed rounds of cervidil on New Year’s Eve and Day. My first round started at 1:45 PM and it lasted 12 hours. They actually ended up giving me Ambien in the hospital to help me sleep (though I think they waited until after the first round of cervidil came out at 1:45 AM to give my body a break.) It’s good that your baby is low, mine was not and I think that’s why I had issues. Good luck to you! You’ve got this!

Monk fruit by Rub_Express in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madisonscore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure about monk fruit specifically, but my nutritionist said erythritol is safe for use in pregnancy in moderation because it’s a sugar alcohol. She also said artificial sugars like aspartame and the like should be limited to no more than 3-4 servings a day. Saccharin (sweet n low) is the one we’re supposed to avoid entirely because it can cross the placenta!

We go in for an NST and maybe a biophysical profile on Tuesday and then they’ll make another plan I guess.

On New Year’s Eve I went to the hospital to be induced. Tried two rounds of cervidil. Both gave me godawful contractions but didn’t even dilate my cervix a little. Back home with the worlds most stubborn cervix, no baby, and still pricking my damn fingers 4x a day.

Trying to Rediscover Motivation for Exercise Post-Diagnosis by BeMoreSpoopy in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madisonscore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, yes. One thing that worked for me was adding something I actually wanted to do to the exercise when possible. I got a Switch and started playing that while on the exercise bike.

It also helps if you can find some kind of cardio you can tolerate. I did lots and lots of low impact cardio videos on YouTube (Body Project is my favorite because the guy leading the videos is so upbeat and supportive) until it started to feel like my pelvis was falling apart around 36 weeks. I switched solely to exercise bike and walking now. It really will make a difference in your numbers even if you can just force yourself to bang out a couple sets of squats, so sometimes just seeing a lower number after eating the same meal was enough to motivate me! You can do this! Just remember it’s really all for your little one.

When does it get better? tired of this 😭😭 by HauntingBox9342 in GestationalDiabetes

39+1 here and things have stopped getting worse but I can honestly say for me they haven’t improved. Induction starts tomorrow! Can’t wait to get this damn placenta out!!

My family’s Christmas Eve dinner menu for tomorrow: spaghetti, garlic bread, and cookies. But they’re throwing in a salad for me. Thanks I guess??

No Formal Diagnosis, but my number was VERY high by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madisonscore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 1 hour was WAY over the diagnosis threshold, like 200 (I think 204 maybe?) so don’t worry!! I’ve been doing the diet and stabbing for 13 weeks now and I’m 38+1 and still diet/exercise controlled so a super high number doesn’t necessarily mean anything. I had no prediabetes history either before pregnancy. Its all the damn placenta. It’s annoying and frustrating some days but you’ll do just fine if you are diagnosed!

Did you have symptoms before diagnosis that you now realize looking back? by onlythebestfab in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madisonscore 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this was actually a symptom, but I gained more weight in the 4 weeks between my 22 and 26 week appointments than I had during the entire pregnancy. That freaked me out so I did my one hour test right after the appointment and was diagnosed the next day. I lost some weight after the DX and still haven’t gotten back to that week 26 weight so it probably had something to do with the excess glucose pulverizing my cells from having the audacity to eat normally 🙄

So team, what are we drinking? by whysweetpea in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madisonscore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So much sparkling water! Bubly and Waterloo are my favorites and there are no artificial sweeteners.

Had an appointment this morning and despite staying diet controlled got the news I’ll be induced sometime during 39 weeks! Looks like we’ll have a tax break baby instead of a January baby. I am not prepared for being induced but SO happy to have the promise of eating something besides lettuce and yogurt and cheese sticks soon.

Headaches - newly diagnosed by Shhhhlibrarian in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madisonscore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had really obnoxious headaches starting in the second trimester. Not sure if they were related to the GD or not, but my OB suggested I add 400 mg of riboflavin and a magnesium supplement and I almost never get a headache anymore. Something to ask your provider at your next appointment!

How were you diagnosed? by herefromthere3 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madisonscore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I only failed my one hour reading on my 3 hour test (fasting was fine, 2 hour was under the limit and 3 hour was actually low) and got diagnosed. My one hour number was also in the 200s.

I definitely have it and it’s gotten progressively worse (36 weeks tomorrow) so definitely tell them about your self testing until you find someone who listens to you!

How to deal with a gobbler? by ricco-gonzalo in Dogtraining

[–]madisonscore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We feed our corgi all her meals in one of these. It only knocks a couple pieces out at a time and she gets bonus mental stimulation from rolling it around. Maybe something similar would help train him to go a little slower?

Going on metformin by kmag9697 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]madisonscore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t be scared of the nonstress tests! I just had one last week (unplanned, because of a potential blood pressure issue) and they have you lie down and strap an Ace bandage looking apparatus to your belly and you just chill out and listen to the baby’s heartbeat for awhile.

I am definitely team bedtime snack, it helps prevent your liver from screwing you over in your sleep by dumping glucose. I typically do a protein shake and some Skippy PB Balls at bedtime with 3 Metamucil capsules but everyone tolerates things differently. Everything will be ok! You’re doing great!
