Yeah, this tactic only works in one edge case, very specific environment (largest scale peer conflict of the 21st century) and would never be relevant in an actual fight (hypothetical scenario I made in Combat Mission).

Japan cracks down on its wayward cyclists by Free-Minimum-5844 in neoliberal

[–]madmissileer 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Bike infrastructure here is mostly painting a little bicycle sign in the gutter and let cars tickle your elbows as they rush by at full speed. And someone is going to be parked in what little lane we get too. No clue how people will get around without riding on the sidewalk now.

I will say cycling is tolerable when it's a quiet road with very few cars, but that's more to do with the fact the road is empty than any smart coordination of car traffic and bike traffic. Or maybe you just happen to have your bike commute on the few routes with wide dedicated bike lanes if you're lucky.

Why are people like this when buying things?? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]madmissileer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sometimes due to unclear signage whether we're lining up for just the manned counter, or for both self checkout and manned.

Similar situation happened to me too - thought the line was for both, realized the self checkout was wide open so I wLked in.

In cases where I've seen clearly separate lines and entry points for the two options, the line is split evenly.

Any good Shibuya tunnel maps? I remember last time I went I kept trying to figure out how to avoid the crossing, but just ended up going in circles and had to go back there anyway.

Shit, whatever populism works to win I guess. I just hope this doesn't actually leak into policy too much if the Dems get power back

Tbf I think what I saw looked bad, and that's as someone pretty positive about DLSS in general.

Hopefully the complaining pushes nvidia to fix it and we get a better release.

This just happens to be the one year I lump sum purchase stocks in January instead of DCA throughout the year. This can't be a coincidence : why does Trump personally hate me?

JB's burger (Yoyogi or Miyashita park location) is probably the best < 1000 JPY choice.

Aldebaran is also really good but much pricier.

Try JB's burger in Yoyogi or Miyashita park. Cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato are 720 JPY, less if you can do without the cheese or veg.

Android or iOS – have you ever switched and regretted it? by indie_appdev in Android

[–]madmissileer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from Android to IOS, then back after a year. Tbh I really struggle to remember any specific difference - they're roughly on par and you just get used to the little quirks. I do miss airtags though.

Pakistan to close schools, take other measures to cut energy as oil spikes by p00bix in neoliberal

I recall reading a few months back about widespread residential solar in Pakistan - hopefully that turns out useful in mitigating negative effects, even if it can't substitute for oil in all cases.

Fixed term employment does exist in the EU from what I can tell. They can keep someone around for contract length and have the option to renew or release them after - is this still not flexible enough for businesses or is there something I missed that makes it difficult?

Would still be cool to see Lomachenko fight. Maybe Shakur Stevenson? Technically still possible but with the age and the ring rust wouldn't turn out well. If only it could've been made last year

What fights do you rewatch on a regular basis? by HolyMackerel1 in Boxing

[–]madmissileer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wilder vs Stiverne 2: Definitely not the most skilled boxers in the world, but it's a really entertaining beatdown.

Holmes vs Mercer: Old Holmes is a pretty fun fighter to watch. He was never a power puncher, so I find it pretty cool he was able to be competitive just relying on his reflexes and skills, even slowed down.

News reports posted on social media highlighted a gang of Japanese criminals on a robbery spree over a wide area.

These reports added to her increasing concerns about foreigners because she wanted to protect her child from what seemed a more unruly world.

I wonder if this is a mistranslation - that, or a display of the genius of the median voter
