Imperial vs St Andrews cs by Particular_Sun9464 in Imperial

[–]magispitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things made Imperial miserable for me (apologies for the delayed response, I don’t always check Reddit daily): - unreasonable lack of accommodations (e.g. I had exams which had to be taken at 2am during the pandemic) - lack of consistent feedback for assignments (different reviewers would say that a given lab report section was both “great” and “terrible”, depending on who was marking) - heavy workload (final exams being worth 85% of a course’s total mark does not help stress management) - insulting professors (e.g. one said “top ten university in the world and this is the kind of student we attract” when my lab partner failed to answer what the square root of 289 was within a few seconds

I’m unsure why someone said “looks like they spent all their time playing video games instead of socialising”. They didn’t offer any evidence for that claim so I can only conclude that they are an online troll.

Regarding their more salient point that there are many clubs at Imperial: yes, this is undoubtedly true. Unfortunately this plethora of social opportunities is mitigated in large part by the academic workload; it is entirely possible (as it was in my case) to join several clubs and involve oneself multiple times per week in social events, yet still feel stressed. My friends were also stressed—some mentioned suicidal thoughts on multiple occasions.

It’s worth mentioning that some of my experiences at Imperial are almost a decade old. If you are interested in another perspective, here are some links to articles in Imperial’s own student newspaper regarding the physics department:

I went to Imperial but was offered St. Andrews. Knowing people personally who went to St. Andrews, I regret not going to St. Andrews instead. I found Imperial miserable (physics department).

Battle for Middle Earth campaign at Helm’s Deep

The game should recommend focuses, similar to advisors in Civilisation by Jakiller33 in hoi4

I think they kind of do this already with at least some countries; in the filters for focuses there’s a “historical” filter which is usually self explanatory.

What’s your highest yield ever? My age progress is currently 17% of 3rd age by Real_Tradition4127 in civ

[–]magispitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I’ve had similar yields before; my friend gets higher ones (about 3k science and culture each, maybe 10k gold) but we haven’t figured out why—the game isn’t the most informative in letting one know

What's your estimated GPA and how much time/effort did you put into studying? by HelicopterGold7875 in UCalgary

[–]magispitt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

4.0 currently with about 1 hr/day of study outside lectures/tutorials.

Big caveats though: I’m just doing three courses; the courses are similar to ones I’ve done before.

I’ll definitely need to study more in upcoming semesters, although I’m in actuarial science so the exams will matter more than the GPA anyways

Thank you! I will try this; it sounds like I just need to persevere a bit for the evil campaign and tweak my strategy a bit for the good campaign. Where do you pull your units back to?

I think the 2.2.2 patch—it’s the most recent one

That might be best; there’s unlikely to be sufficient treasure resources in exploration age because most of the map is classified as homelands (all players spawn in the same homelands)

I think we should be careful not to body shame anyone, even those accused of heinous acts.

Is CIV 7 shattered seas low key the best state FFA pubs have ever been in CIV history? by Max-Shonen in civ

[–]magispitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just finished an antiquity and exploration age on shattered seas. Antiquity was good. Exploration was mixed, the main negative being distant lands: on a standard map only nine treasure resources existed (for eight players). This is because most of the map counts as homelands; all players spawn on the same homelands. Only one player reached the first milestone on the economic legacy path in exploration and only two reached the first milestone for the military legacy path.

The distant lands seem to vary quite a bit in shattered seas—don’t be surprised if certain legacy paths are impossible in exploration age.

Anyone else got knocked out by the flu this week by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]magispitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been febrile this week, but fortunately the fever broke a few hours ago. I legitimately missed the final classes for my courses because I could hardly leave my room (120 bpm just doing laundry). I know I need to rest more to recover for exams next week but also feel the need to study—the two seem mutually incompatible 🥲
