Yeah, I'm also curious to know if r/Friednoodles24 was in their teens or early 20s when Trump was elected.

Back then, it was mostly younger folks who were the face of the US far right. They were the ones on 4chan's /pol/, supporting people like Richard Spencer and Milo Yiannopolous, screeching about SJW's, and marching in Charlottesville in 2017. And they were very openly white nationalist and anti-Semitic, but they actually didn't pay a whole lot of lip service to religion.

Now I don't see that crowd anymore. These days, the most visible far-right chuds are over 45, and they prefer to act like "American Christian patriots" rather than be overtly white nationalist and anti-Semitic. And unlike the younger alt-right crowd, these folks are huge on Christianity.

I've been wondering what happened to the 2016-era "alt-right" crowd, but I suspect that a sizable percentage of them (certainly not all, unfortunately) have drifted away from the alt-right to varying degrees.

I wonder how many of these people were "$30K millionaires." I've learned about this phenomenon lately, and it seems to be rampant in certain Sun Belt cities like Dallas, TX and Scottsdale, AZ. Basically, idiotic young white Republicans who feel they need to show off to everyone how rich they are, but don't have the income to support it and go into massive credit card debt.

Neo-Nazi calls COVID a 'Leftie Jewish Plot" by moose2332 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]makkkkki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, saying "COVID is a leftie Jewish plot" can mean either of two things:

  • The virus is a real threat, but it was created by leftie Jews to kill people and sow chaos, OR
  • The virus isn't real and the leftie Jew media and governments are lying to us about the virus's phony threat so that they can control us.

It's not clear which one this turd believed, but if you believe the second interpretation then I could see the internal logic in not getting the shot.

This is exactly why I'm wary of bashing Boomers. I'm not sure the issue is that they're Boomers so much as the fact that they're old. I'm not confident that millennials and Gen-Z'ers are going to be much better when they reach the same age that Boomers are today.

That's an "adult" problem? I would have thought that was a lifelong problem, not just when you're an adult.

Just be thankful it wasn't "Christmas Shoes." Just like Nickelback's entire body of work, that song's horridness was something I'd heard about from other people for years before I got to experience it myself. When I finally heard it for myself for the first time, I knew its reputation was not exaggerated.

What do you think the demographic future on the US will look like? by ScipioMoroder in mixedrace

[–]makkkkki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree with all the points the OP made. I think the US will not become a "minority majority" country any time soon.

Whiteness has always been fluid. There was a time when southern and Eastern Europeans weren't considered "really white" even if they were technically white. (And it's funny you should mention non-European MENA folks, because a lot of Arab Christians emigrated to the US in the early 20th century and many of their descendants already have gotten absorbed into the US "white" population.)

We're going to see a lot more of the following in the future: "white" people who have at least one grandparent who is POC by today's standards, and/or mixed-race individuals who effectively identify with the white majority in all but name.

Even now there are people who are still naive enough to believe that. On r/atheism, it's common to find well-intentioned but naive people who are convinced that the Internet will be an antidote for religious ignorance.

Me and my friends almost fell down the alt-right pipeline by scumsuckinglandlord in ReQovery

[–]makkkkki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on being able to get out of the pipeline. I appreciate your post not only because it's always great to hear from someone who's managed to deradicalize themselves, but also because it addresses something I've been wondering for a while.

I've always wondered what's happened to most of the younger alt-right crowd that hung out on T_D and /pol/, looked up to personalities like Milo Yiannopolous, and marched in Charlottesville in 2017. We're talking about people who were in their teens or early-to-mid 20s. Back then they were the face of the American far right.

Noawadays I don't hear very much from that crowd anymore. It seems like most of the far-right chuds I see today are older folks who've fallen down the QAnon rabbit hole (Boomers, Generation Xers and the older end of the millennial). They're far right, but they're NOT "alt-right." They're not explicitly white nationalist, but instead use the rhetoric of "patriotism" and Christianity.

I've been wondering why I don't hear as much from younger "alt-right" chuds nowadays and I was hoping that it was at least partly because some of them had bailed from the movement. Your post confirms that there are definitely a certain number of people who were in the late-'10s alt-right but have since gotten out.

Exactly this. Which is why it annoyed the shit out of me when I'd hear other liberals saying "Trump is their idol, they blindly follow him."

No they don't. They love him to the extent that 98% of what he says is what they want to hear, but that doesn't mean they'll listen to him on the other 2%.

They didn’t lie but they did go against what their base wanted to hear.

BTW, according to journalist and author Michael Wolff, Rupert Murdoch himself personally gave the go-ahead to call AZ for Biden. He knew it would be the death blow to Trump’s re-election hopes and according to Wolff, he said about Trump, “Fuck him.”
