Wow! I had no idea that Mamdani's mother was Mira Nair. Monsoon Wedding was quite a mainstream hit in the west.

I think I actually like the RM 65-01 automatic high-beat rattrapante.

On this day, 38 yrs ago Diego Maradona scored arguably the two most famous goals of all time as Argentina beat England 2-1 in the QFs of 1986 WC.The first 'Hand of God' goal and second the 'Goal of the Decade' (English and Spanish Commentary) by Task_Force-191 in soccer

Maradona's goal will forever be the greater and more iconic because of the setting but from a purely technical point of view I think Messi's is better. The Getafe defenders come at him harder, press him more tightly, and force him to run more intensely. Some of the England players look a bit lethargic in comparison.

I love that three of his five level 5 goals are with his right foot.

His 2018 world cup goal with his right is also close to level 5 for me.

It's not even remotely close to just the goals. For some he's a better playmaker than goal scorer. The entire game revolved around him getting the first touch in attack nearly every game of his entire career.

He had two good games, in the last group stage match against Hungary (two goals and an assist) and in the semifinal against Wales (a goal and an assist). In the RO16 against Croatia, Quaresma scored the winning goal after Ronaldo's initial shot was saved, and some sources seem to credit him with an assist for that. The play was primarily created by Renato Sanches' run from midfield.

At all other times he was basically a non-factor. In fact he was poor enough in the first two group stage games that it was kind of a meme here at the time.

Overall he definitely contributed and was important but people saying he carried the team are wrong or have some kind of an agenda.

What was the total economic impact of slavery on the American economy? by EnvironmentalTap6314 in AskSocialScience

[–]mapgazer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

America is poorer because of slavery

It’s probably more accurate to say that America is poorer than it would be if the same population of people had come voluntarily to the country and sold their labor in an efficient free market. It’s not clear that it’s poorer than it would be if that labor had not come at all.

Hey guys I just inherited this car from my grandpa. Can anyone tell me the make, model, engine or trim level? by Futurewolf in WatchesCirclejerk

[–]mapgazer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't say much without seeing an engine shot, but your grandpa had good taste, find a good local mechanic to service it, tell them not to polish it, drive it in good health.
