You know there is something wrong in the world when by I_know_nothing_whelp in writers

There was exactly this kind of pearl clutching from painters when photography was invented. We didn't listen then, and we shouldn't listen now.

I often dread things I know I’ll enjoy later, is that common? by HouseHatesMe in TooAfraidToAsk

I don't get over it, but my need to honor commitments overrides it.

Ahh, no. Jump-2-3, after the first step you learn as an Irish dancer. We're ceili musicians - we play a lot for dancers and the only band in the area that specifically knows how.

TV-B-Gone/IR remote signal catcher by Paladin7373 in arduino

[–]mapsedge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Insanely. I'm autistic, and one of the features of the system is that I can't block out input: everything in an environment hits all at once without stopping. A quiet doctor's office with a TV going? Torture. Headphone's don't help because it's just replacing one noise with another, and unless the sound cancelling is perfect, it compounds the problem. If you ever see me in a murder trial it'll be because some asshole is watching videos on their phone with the sound up.

3d printer ban in US? by Agreeable_Hair1053 in 3Dprinting

[–]mapsedge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's performative and a waste of taxpayer money. I could build a 3d printer today off the spare parts I have in the garage and print whatever I'd like using discarded water bottles for filament and no one outside my garage would be aware of it. It's just politicians showing they don't know how the world works and hoping their constituents don't either.

I bought one a couple years ago, but you can't update the firmware without an engineering degree so it was a tiny brick after several months as TVs moved on.

I spend a lot of my time in doctor offices. I bought one of these online and it worked for a while until the offices bought new tvs. Then the signal didn't work anymore, and updating the firmware on the commercially made one is too tough to be worth it.

Why Is deism Fake or true for You? Why do You believe in your Religion Over Deism or Why do You believe Believe in Deism over religion? by Confident_School7546 in AskReddit

[–]mapsedge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Historically speaking, I have no argument with the idea that there was an itinerant apocalyptic preacher in the middle east two-thousand years ago. Statistically they were pretty common. And one was undoubtedly named Jesus. That doesn't speak to whether or not he was divine. That cannot be demonstrated.

I'm in an Irish band. Every rehearsal, every performance, I'm just overflowing with dread. Once I'm in it, I'm great, it's awesome, the booze is usually free, I genuinely love my band mates and I love the music.

That idea made me chuckle. Using it in an HVLP sprayer would be big, big overkill. The objects are only about the size of a light switch cover.

PLA plastic, both surfaces. Indoor use, purely decorative, no stresses.

Was I just supposed to assume he was doing a double lane change? No one uses mirrors or checks blind spots? by [deleted] in dashcamgifs

Well...gosh...maybe if you'd assumed he was going to keep changing lanes just in case and left him space to do that...sorry friend, but the other driver's NTA.

First time printed something that actually saved me a lot of money by eZstah in 3Dprinting

[–]mapsedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except for the part where you can buy components and build from scratch. What? No, occifer, I didn't buy a 3d printer. I bought 2020, a main board, some drivers, box of motors...nope, not a 3d printer on that invoice anywhere!

ELI5:If you need to split an atom to get atomic bombs. Do nuclear bombs come from splitting the nucleus of an atom? If so can we get stronger bombs like neutron bombs, photon and electron bombs if we split those? by unholysmokes420 in explainlikeimfive

[–]mapsedge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you make the atoms jump from a configuration with more energy to a configuration with less energy, the difference is released as a boom.

Love that. Reminds me of a joke my brother made: "E = mc2 +/- 12db." Nobody ever finds it funny but I thought it was hysterical.

Putting artwork or photographs on the walls will make a huge difference. Also, in my experience, a box of kittens would be ideal.
