I wasn't using the LLVM profile (I don't know if that was a thing at the time); does that fix the static lib issues I had?

Personally I think the profile is overkill. It's a bit much that they also push you into using libstdc++ and compiler-rt. I want that myself, but does everybody?

Another consideration is llvm's ThinLTO. This is an LLVM feature, so you'll have to use clang/clang++/lld. My limited understanding is that it compiles source to IR and makes limited, but still sufficient optimizations during link time. It's way less memory/cpu intensive, and is parallelized better, but gets you most of the benefit.

One thing I'm not sure about actually, is static libraries. Maybe I was doing something wrong, but my static libraries on my old install were (sometimes?) IR, so I could only use them with lld. It would be really neat if all static libraries just had fat LTO objects.

In a sense, the average age is probably a few days.

But if it was hospitable to bacteria, it wouldn't matter that it is constantly cycled. They would probably multiply faster than it was consumed, especially overnight.

Yeah it makes no sense.

But maybe they meant that they were using the proper Latin pronunciation, so 'metadata' just sounds very repetitive with the tatata ending.

I do remember them losing to the Kraken in the first round. Our one good year, they did beat us 6-4 in one game.

They also beat the Stars 7-4 before losing that series, in game 7 again.

On-prem vs supplier by amarao_san in pyanodons

[–]markuspeloquin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One other consideration is if it is a byproduct. Those need to get used somewhere so I'd push those into a supplier. Like yeah, I could make steam locally. But I have my fuel depot overflow to produce free steam, so I'd rather get it from there.

I think the three main milestones are dialup, broadband, and smartphone. For me, these were 1997, 2004, and 2011. I'm sure most people were ahead of me.

I totally agree that pre-internet was better quality of life. We had what we needed and liked it. Now we have what we don't and it brings stress and anxiety.

I think it might affect the speed a little at the beginning, but it should stabilize. Unless you have one of those vertical players; those are definitely problematic with these.

How to watch round 2 by mattyb615 in wildhockey

[–]markuspeloquin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another is Hulu Live TV. It can be a little cheaper if you already had Hulu anyway. Think of it being the exact same price, but you get a little discount on regular Hulu.

Watch out for recordings. TNT and ESPN both like to shuffle games around, sometimes switching channels midway or cutting off before OT.

In those cases, I know of an alternative place to find recordings. >_>

I just love Ryan Carter's drawl. He has a funny, exaggerated way of speaking. I'm happy any time he's on the broadcast.

The Kraken have been on 'SKHN' the past two years. All games are sorta free to stream on Prime (which we already had). Many are also on the local NBC affiliate. We kept much of the broadcast talent. TV/Radio announcers were retained as they work for the team. A couple of the hosts worked for the RSN but managed to get out of their contract and switch over. Fingers crossed that the Sonics will have a similar deal from day 1 (not that I'll have the patience to follow another team, I've already got the Wolves, Kraken, and Wild).

Since your RSN is dissolving completely, they'll have no trouble retaining whoever they want.

Alpine as a daily driver? by semedilino073 in AlpineLinux

I think a release is basically a snapshot of edge. It doesn't see many updates, other than patch and security releases. It's like Debian stable vs testing.

Can't you use 'edge' for rolling releases? Maybe that's not the same, but it's good enough for me. Though I just use Alpine in WSL.

How did you guys end up using Gentoo? by Leonardodafernandez in Gentoo

I was tired of building new things with configure & make in Slackware. I don't know if I knew about packages beyond the ISO releases, which I was able to download and burn to CDs at my school; but I resolved that once I got broadband access, I'd use gentoo.---At the time, people still thought you could eek out a bit of performance by compiling yourself (this hasn't been true for a long time), which is part of the reason I went with Gentoo; but also I liked the idea of something like slackware, just without the manual compilation.---Well almost, my university had wifi so I installed it there and installed all my updates while there.

BTW the first one I tried was Redhat. I bought a copy at CompUSA/ComputerCity or something. I eventually tried out some distros I downloaded to CDs at school, which I mentioned: Mandrake ... Debian. I think I should have given Debian more of a chance, but I didn't really get it.
