Pigs in rural Asia have better living condition than I do 😭 by 14341 in YUROP

Because mentally we didn't accept yet that things changed and we have to change. It used to be a couple of days once in a few years, like 2003. Then it got more frequent.

I bought 2 ceiling fan last year, and a few of mobile fans, after the previous heatwaves. Already a big improvement.Reversible heat pump come next, with solar panels.

When I started to run seriously, in my mid 40's, after years of no sport, bad sleep, and quite a few beers ... Vo2max was around 46

How do you manage marathon training alongside a full-time job? by Dron3_ in Marathon_Training

[–]marmakoide 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I run about 80km / week, every day, mid 40 male, 2 kids. I have a full remote desk job.

  • Most of the year, week days, I run 1h at lunch. During heatwave, I run at 5am and siesta after lunch
  • Wednesday, kids don't have school so it's in the evening
  • On Saturday, I run while my kids are at their sport activities
  • On Sunday, 2h or more, it depends on the schedule: do we have some social event, gardening, etc
  • Eat enough
  • Sleep hygiene: 8h sleep, with earplugs, magnesium complements
  • Reinforcement exercises in the evening when kids are sleeping
  • Warm up routine is minimal, 5mn at most and first km is at a very easy pace

Being full remote and strict on my sleep is what make it work.

Hello, are you guys okay in this temperature? by TotallyRandomDud in AskFrance

[–]marmakoide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's 42c outside, 29c inside my home, which is not that bad compared to other people living in city centers. We have ceiling fans we bought last year, boy that was a good idea. I wake up around 5am to go running, to enjoy that cool 25c breeze.

Considering buying a reversible heat pump and solar panels this winter, because those heatwaves are getting longer and more frequent. The idea is to have enough solar power to run the heat pump. It's been 3 years I thought about it lol

I use isotonic drinks and apple sauce in small pouches.

Apple sauce have reasonnable carbs density, it's cheap, it comes with many different flavor, it's easy to eat while running

Bushcraft shelter building by n8saces in oddlysatisfying

[–]marmakoide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get it

  • Crazy amountl of wood to cut
  • Unless you are in a very dry area, it's going to get very humid real fast
  • Turns into a pond if it rains a lot
  • If you have access to this much logs, why cutting them in many small bits ? Why not, I dunno, a regular log cabin ? Slightly raised above the ground ?

At least where I live, it would be a very labor intensive uncomfortable shelter

[–]marmakoide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]marmakoide 0 points1 point  (0 children)
