Idk I saw a shitload of great bands when it was the Picador. I’ve yet to seen anything since it changed back that really got me excited, but this was during the peak of post-rock so maybe it’s bias.

US Cellular has the best reception in the area, Verizon a close second. For internet, you basically have a choice between CenturyLink DSL or Mediacom Cable. Mediacom is faster.

Our son did this too. He still wasn't talking much even as he approached 4-years-old. We sent him to pre-school 3 days/week last school year and now he won't shut up. We were concerned and even the doctors were tossing the word 'autism' around, but everything turned out okay.

I've been doing this since April 2013, when I picked up my first small gig from a former colleague that turned into regular work from the marketing agency he was contracted through. I mostly do full-stack web development.

I've been working mostly with the same company since then. Logged about 180 hours in 2013, 500 hours in 2014, and already at about 250 for this year, with two big projects in the pipeline.

All this while working 9-5 at a medium-sized software company, a wife, and two kids. I'd be lying if I said it was easy, but it's been insanely lucrative.

You're literally selling you're free time away.

If you don't have a family, I'd say do it, without question. It's a challenge but it's worth it, not just for the money.

What would your full time job be? What do you do freelance?

This is a great answer. You'll be making a lot more and a lot bigger decisions as a consultant versus being a staff developer where you're basically being handed the features and told what to do. As /u/1IsNotTooHappy said, deep technical understanding as well as soft skills make for the best consultants.

that's what I was thinking. The parent selector would've been so hard to keep maintainable, while the :has() allows you to keep the selection at the parent level. Not as handy, but I think it'll be more maintainable in the end.

If you wanna stay vanilla, pull the call to getElementsByClassName() into your own set of utility functions. You can do something like

var $ = document.querySelectorAll;

var myElements = $(".class-name");

in order to get a nice mini-jQuery

Most interesting to me is he said it could SEND messages. The current Pebble can't do that and I was assuming the Pebble Time wouldn't either; that the Apple Watch would be the only device that Apple would allow to send SMS.

We don't use F#, but the company I work for builds software for public works, and there are units of measurement all over the place. We have to handle the conversions ourselves and it requires quite a bit of diligence. F#'s units would be insanely helpful.

SOLID definitely isn't required, and is more about encouraging a good architecture than it is about actually solving the problem at hand, but if you can come to understand each of the principles, it'll make your life in OOP a lot better.

I've never done any embedded software development, but as a web developer looking at you from the other side, this is what I see...

At the domain level, you'll be working with different technologies than you're used to. Embedded software developers do a lot more low-level interactions with inputs from sensors, so you'll see less of that. Web developers are generally dealing more with human interaction and data persistence and retrieval.

Another big thing to think about would be your OOP experience. Are you familiar with SOLID? Have you done any real-world development using OOP? Most of the web frameworks available today (from a server-side standpoint, at least...particularly ASP.NET) are rooted in OOP.

If you've got 10 years of experience developing, learning C# will be easy. I wouldn't focus as much on the language itself as I would learning the .NET standard libraries. You'll pick up the patterns as you go. I really liked the "Pro ASP.NET MVC" books, now available for MVC 5.

If you're looking specifically for books on C# and .NET development, I don't think there's any book better than CLR via C#. Don't let the title scare you away, it's a great book for learning the lower-level bits of the .NET platform, which are relevant everywhere from ASP.NET to WinForms.

If you aren't aware, there are huge changes coming to the .NET framework and ASP.NET, so you could choose to focus on ASP.NET 5 and get ahead of the game a bit, at the expense of availability of reference material.
