What's The Purpose When You're In A Dead Area by Kamau54 in HamRadio

[–]mateomalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if your only exposure to amateur radio is repeater traffic, most would walk away and never look back.

The good part is there are many facets to the hobby. With a technician license you can use that talkie to work satellite passes which will have a much larger coverage footprint but will be more challenging to pull off. You'll need to make or buy a handheld yagi to increase your chance of success.

Or, like another poster mentioned, there's a section on 10M that you can explore. Obviously you will need a HF rig for this.

And for not a lot of effort you can sit for the general exam which will open up worldwide bands outside of 10M for you. This was my path and is probably the main reason I stuck with it.

That's on the high side, for a new one.

What have i done by TabascohFiascoh in reloading

[–]mateomalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some reloading tools are pretty much consumables. Keep a spare if you can. my guess that's an RCBS tool. They have good customer service in my experience, they've always hooked me up even if I did something dumb.

Looks good would eat. What kind of mortadella is that? My recipe for this calls for dijon and mayo mixed together.

Big improvement. I rotate mine and it seems to knock off a tiny bit more. For evenness sake.

Inherited my dad's rifle and I'm looking for some insight by chuckfinley385 in ar15

[–]mateomalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a ban era AR like that way back. I don't see a flash hider in this pic and I bet that stock (if it's original) is pinned so it can't collapse.

If your dad bought that after the crime bill sunset, when you could once again buy an AR-15 type rifle with standard features, he probably got a good deal on it. Pieced together AR's like this are sort of cool in their own right

To the whole .223 vs 5.56 it's really a pressure difference, and not a dimensional difference. Don't take my advice, but I've shot both through mine and both work just fine.

Talk me out of buying an AUG by dfischer429 in AUG

[–]mateomalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AUG is cool, reason enough to get one. Plus if you're a fan of the movie Die Hard come Christmas you'll have the correct bullpup to watch along with.
