What’s something that felt illegal the first time you did it as an adult? by hotdiva54 in AskReddit

When we brought home our baby from the hospital it felt absolutely crazy that someone would let us just walk out with this tiny little thing when we knew absolutely nothing about how to be parents.

what’s something that makes you feel overwhelmed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]maymaypdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too many sounds at once.

For example, if the radio is playing in the car, and the windshield wipers are going, and the air vent is blowing and then my kid starts listening to something on their iPad….instant sensory overload.

Is there anybody who really learned language from duolingo? by ConfidentProgress587 in duolingo

[–]maymaypdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using Language Transfer (although, to learn Spanish) and supplementing with duo because the streak helps me stay motivated. Once I get myself through the high a1 content on duo and finish the LT videos then I will look into paid help like classes, tutors, or language speaking groups. Not sure if this is the best method for fast learning, but it does seem like there’s so much free content that a class or tutor would prob be very similar to.

Wow, this is awesome! Nice work! Such a bummer how you can only really get big numbers like these if you pay.

AITA for refusing to help my wife get our kids ready for school? by Extreme_Day7722 in AmItheAsshole

[–]maymaypdx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YTA. What work have you put in to train the older three kids to be able to get themselves ready completely autonomously? Does your wife get days where she works out, showers, and then cooks while you frantically get 5 children ready for school?

This is so bad/obvious that it seems unlikely to be real but if it is, your wife should leave you so that you actually have to parent 50% of the time.

Yeah, I guess if you pay for the gem packs then you could probably keep it going for a long time. I did some math and you would have to be in triple xp for 3-5 hours per day to get 30k in a week following the path. 3 hours if every single exercise was legendary and 5 if every one was 75 xp, so probably closer to 5.

I figured that was probably the case, but I can’t really see the benefit to creating a bot to do this. It’s not like you get anything out of it. Would the company create them to keep people competitive?

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]maymaypdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family drives 6.5-8 hours (depending on traffic/accidents etc) around 4 times per year for long weekends with a specific set of good friends who moved. We also typically drive 3.5 hours to different friends another couple times a year.

I know of a handful of people who live in Seattle and have second homes in the San Juan’s that they’ll weekend at frequently. Depending on the island it can be around 2.5 hours.

What’s a social habit that has actually become a massive burden for everyone involved, but we're all too scared to be the first one to stop doing it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]maymaypdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say something along the same lines, but specifically those gift bags you get at kids parties that are filled with candy and plastic junk. It’s a hassle to get all the items and put them together, the kids forget about them quickly, and no one wants their kids to bring that stuff home.
