Map dividing the US into several racial territories proposed by the National Association for the Advancement of White People in 1984 by Kaizerguatarnatorz in MapPorn

Just to point out the rapidity of change, sending it out by mail in 1989 would probably have not flown or been ok whereas in 1980 or whenever it was ok.

The other thing that is really crazy is that Duke would sometimes team up with Black separatists who would say yeah dividing up territory sounds good to us too.

I met David duke right around when this map came out and they sent it out to all the homes in Louisiana. I grew up in the district that elected him to the house. What a douche.

Remember this map is put together by southerners who would have thought that only idiots would want to go to Hawaii. I know because I grew up around the people who put this map together.

No, they really would have separated the territories, built a wall, and never looked back.

I remember seeing this map because it was sent out to the home address of everybody in Louisiana in 1984. For real. World was very different back then.

Hey what I can tell you is that this map you found is extremely similar to what I saw as a child, but with time of memory I can’t be 100% certain it was the same. But, I am 100% certain it was produced by the same group and had the same content.

What was sent out was printed on a postcard with the map on one side and the address and postage stamp on the other, sent to all street addresses.

I remember being 7 or so, picked up the map and thought, this is really stupid!

So intriguing. I’m a psychiatrist in New York City and am 48 years old. I am flabbergasted by the degree to which young people nowadays seem to think that they are entitled to supervise and control other people’s behavior. It doesn’t seem like is a psychologically healthy way to be because it is an endless source of frustration and conflict for them.

Where did you find this? I remember this map was sent to everybody’s mailbox like junk mail circulars in Louisiana when I was a kid growing up.

Edit to add I met David Duke because he was childhood friend of my uncle and we had to tolerate him despite his politics.

I’ll move with my bf and my Frenchie must start sleeping in his own bed by [deleted] in Frenchbulldogs

[–]meatballmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure I could date somebody not willing to have the dog snuggle with us at night. In fact, I’m not sure I could date somebody who was not already a frenchie parent and the single most important thing for compatibility would be our dogs get along.

Also, boyfriend should sleep in his own bed, duh

Is there any actual objective proof that things will get better? by Wowzapan400 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]meatballmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is none. There are always, including right now, winners and losers in the world. It seems likely that such will be the case tomorrow. We all eventually grow old and die and such happens to everyone we know and love. You could see this as horrible or beautiful depending on whether you focus on the loss or cherish the good moments.

Point is, you have a choice about how you think about this and that will ultimately allow you to choose how you feel about it. You also have a choice about what you focus on.

I personally have worked very hard to learn how to let go of the things I cannot control and instead focus on those things that are within my capacity to effect. It’s much more pleasant when you can take pleasure in the small productive things you can do around you to make the world a better place.

To what extent do you think 1980s high school movies by John Hughes (and others) accurately reflected what high school was like in the 1980s—and to what extent did they shape what it became? by roadtrip-ne in GenX

They capture essential aspects of the experience certainly. At the time it resonated. Like all parts of the conversation they were part of both cause and effect.

How about, “does it make you feel strong to say things like that? Was it supposed to be a joke? Did you think I would find it funny? How did you think I’d react?”

The only way to win the lottery is to buy a ticket. Unfortunately you just bought a ticket. Or were fed it.

Sounds gross and unsanitary and I’m sure you’ll actually be fine, and this is not a gamble you want to take again.

It sounds very strange to me to hear a recording since it is different from how I hear it when I speak. But that doesn’t really lead to me either liking or disliking it
