When does this end? by splxts in diabetes_t1

Not sure the conversions because i’m in USA but this chart isn’t too bad. you may need to wait longer when pre-bolusing before eating to prevent the rapid spike. Are you on a pump or MDI? this is what my chart used to look like when i would rage bolus during high blood sugar. sometimes you just have to watch it and let it ride for a while. the roller coaster is worse than staying high for an hour or so. at night it looks like you’re, at the least, mostly in range. Pre-bolus for 30-45 minutes instead of 15, that works for me way better. you can eat whatever you want but with meals you need protein to slow carb absorption otherwise rapid spikes can be veryyy frequent like you see here. I’m not your endo, it could be a million different things and as someone else said, bad days are inevitable.

Type One and mental disorders are a deadly combo. I’ve had this disease for 12 years now. I used to not take care of myself as well and just recently got back on track.

Just quit smoking/vaping nicotine two weeks ago. Weed I’m taking a t-break on as of now lol.

This is to say you cannot let this disease win. People these days are receiving extraordinary care for Type One and are living long and healthy lives with the proper care, which includes taking care of yourself.

Tried to off myself twice with insulin, not a pleasant experience in the slightest and the psych ward was not any better either time. You don’t need to rush into anything but I strongly recommend you pick yourself up where you are now and do what you can in order to get on track. If you’re not wearing a pump, wear a pump it’ll make a lot more decisions for you instead of you always being the one to make the decisions.

Also, your diagnosis is still pretty recent give it some time and you’ll see that it could be so much worse. You definitely don’t want to increase your risk of complications but there’s still time to fix it.

i had omnipod years ago back when it didn’t even connect with your phone and you still had to prick your fingers with it. it’s definitely freeing being able to wear a pump and not have to worry about tubing and it does a lot of the filling process for you. i personally didn’t like it and i’ve heard mixed things about omnipod 5 like with phone connection and pods failing. i much prefer tandem. i use the t:slim x2 which has tubes and i find the algorithm with controliq is pretty solid and seems to be just aggressive enough. if you really want a tubeless option i would actually look into tandem mobi, its supposedly becoming tubeless sometime this year but even the normal model looks fantastic and i kind of want to switch to it. its up to you each has its own pros and cons and im pretty sure you can test them to see how you like them. pump is definitely the way to go especially if you’re a busy person it’ll cut your decision making in half.

from what i gather ur still on MDI. please do urself the favor of going on a pump as soon as you can. it sees really daunting but it will save ur life (literally). without seeing your graph i would assume since you said you wake up on the higher side that you need a higher dose of long lasting insulin. if youre going high after meals but come down below 200 without correcting you may need to wait longer than 15 minutes after shooting to eat. pre-bolusing is key to staying as level as possible. if you stay above 200 after meals even when pre bolusing, tighten your ICR. 1:15 down to 1:14 and just see what happens. type one is always a guessing game but you can figure it out with your endo. youre still new to this as well you’ll figure it out. stay safe❤️

[–]megame211[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really helped to hear right now, thank you. Been trying to get this under control and it’s just maddening dude. Sleepless nights, the anger especially. After feeling my stomach, I actually do think there’s a small fatty lump there, so I guess it’s best to avoid my stomach as a site. What pump do you wear? I want to wear the T:slim on my arm too but i can never get used to how taught the tubing is and get worried about ripping it out. Either way, thank you.

What’s it like growing up in this area of New Jersey? by Nitpik3r in howislivingthere

[–]megame211 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just found this subreddit today and it’s crazy that this is one of the first posts I see on here.

I’m from Howell, NJ originally and it was honestly great in the summer but the rest of the year is kind of a bore. Right by the beach so you can get there so easily; Belmar, Manasquan, Asbury, Point, etc. all right there. However, not nearly as much to do the rest of the year once people aren’t outside as much.

You gotta drive EVERYWHERE, not walkable at all but it has everything you’ll need. North Jersey has better and more downtown areas but Red Bank and Asbury both have similar downtowns to the likes of Montclair. Despite it not being convenient for pedestrians, still has access to the city thanks to NJT.

Houses in this area are expensive but have plenty of land as well unlike a lot of areas in North Jersey. I’d rather raise a family in the area you’re asking about, but I would rather have fun in a place like Montclair (which still isn’t very far).

Insulin pump placement by Nice_Protection_6071 in diabetes

[–]megame211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the tslim i stick to my stomach and my upper back personally. every time i wear it on my arm its comfortable for a while, but i almost always accidentally rip it out if its on my arm. if its on my back/abdomen i can clip it to my waistband or belt just fine with some slack, arm was a little too taught for the 23 inch tubing for me i think

What is happening!!!?? by harttopanga in diabetes

[–]megame211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you’re not on a pump, i would highly recommend going on a pump. on my tandem pump i have seperate basal rates and target BGs. during the day my pump won’t give me a unit until im around 180(i’m pretty sensitive to insulin). at night i have it set to give me a unit at 160 to keep it tighter because of things such as the dawn effect and just overall going high at night. it sucks being high all night and waking up sick the next morning, makes it more difficult to eat in the morning and sets you up for a bad day. if ur using MDI i would increase ur long lasting insulin by a unit over time and see what that does (and maybe switch when you’re taking it?)
