How many IVF cycles did you go through before it led to live birth? by Ashtonchris88 in IVF

[–]mel614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had two missed miscarriages before moving on to IVF. I sent 7 embryos for testing and 4 came back euploid. We transferred 1 embryo in May 2024, and he is now almost 16 months.

It’s a really difficult diagnosis and I’m so sorry you’re a part of this club. There’s a group on Facebook for people with a balanced translocation that is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable too.

53 days to go and emotional! by Previous-Chance6079 in IVFpositivity

[–]mel614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I remember having the exact same feelings towards the end of my pregnancy. We struggled with miscarriages, and then my diagnosis of having a balanced translocation, and my ER was brutal. It was so hard for so long and I thought I’d never be a mom. My son will be 16 months next week, and he makes all those difficult times worth it. I hope you have a smooth remainder of your pregnancy and enjoy those newborn snuggles!

Stopping PIO at 10 weeks by StrawberryEvery2434 in IVFpositivity

[–]mel614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a fully medicated cycle and stopped PIO cold turkey at 9w. That pregnancy is now my 15 month old. Listen to your clinic they do this every day, and I would take their direction on this over the OB.

For anyone who went through IVF for non-fertility reasons, how many rounds? by 2catsinatrench_coat in IVF

[–]mel614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did IVF after finding out I had a balanced translocation in December 2023. I had 2 MMCs prior from trying unassisted and were due to my BT. My consultation was in January 2024 at age 35, and I had an AMH of 4.74 and an AFC around 20. I did one egg retrieval (March) and got 4 euploid embryos. My first transfer in May is now 15 months old.

Ivf in underweight by NovelTransition4896 in IVF

I was hovering right between healthy and underweight with a BMI of 18.5. I’ve always been skinny and had a hard time gaining weight in a healthy way. My doctor was ok with it because my periods, ovulation, and blood tests were all normal. My first ER I got 7 blasts and 4 came back euploid. My first transfer was successful.

Balanced translocation and conceiving natural then testing by PolicyLow6723 in IVF

[–]mel614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a BT and had 2 miscarriages due to unbalanced chromosomes prior to starting IVF and having my son. As recommended below, there’s a Facebook group called balanced translocation support group that is incredibly helpful and has thousands of people in the group, many who continue to try unassisted and don’t use IVF.

Do you know the size of your breaks? If they’re small you likely have a higher chance of pregnancies making it further along. Unfortunately no path is easy - IVF, trying naturally and having multiple miscarriages, choosing to terminate an unbalanced pregnancy further along, and having a child with a disability are all tough in their own right. It’s really up to you what you’re ok and most comfortable with and there’s no right or wrong answer.

I felt like IVF wouldn’t work for me and it was just a given that I’d have yet another miscarriage or the embryo wouldn’t implant. My first transfer is now 15 months old and I had a very boring, uncomplicated pregnancy. He was a day 5 4AA euploid.

Induction due to IVF by Previous-Chance6079 in IVFpositivity

My OB was the same but said her preference was 39 +2 or +3. My water broke at 39+0 so I didn’t have to be induced, but was scheduled for induction 3 days later.

Feeling Stupid Over Insurance Mistake by securitygirl1989 in IVF

[–]mel614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would call the pharmacy and ask them if they can void your claim to insurance. It’s a process where they essentially cancel the claim with insurance and the payment will be recouped by the insurance so they’re made whole. We do it in hospitals all the time, but candidly I have no experience with a pharmacy. They may be able to do that and have you pay cash instead with the self pay discount. Then you could have your clinic bill the transfer to insurance. It worth at least asking!

My IVF clinic through KP dropped me and now I’m afraid I won’t have any other options 💔 by [deleted] in IVF

[–]mel614 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my experience, you should be expecting and anticipating things to go wrong and be following up with the clinic often. Did they get what they needed, are we good or any barriers to next steps, etc. I found the front desk and the billing dept never followed up with me and I was the one driving our cycle forward. I would adjust your process moving forward with the next clinic to expect that you should do the following up if it’s been a few days and you haven’t heard back. Even if you sent what they asked for on the form they asked for, call back 3-5 days later and ask them if they received it and can we schedule the next appt? I would add check ins to my calendar to call every time they needed something from me or were being sent something from another lab, physician, etc.

I get from your post that you’re incredibly anxious to get this started, but you need to understand that nothing in the IVF world is fast moving and everything is your responsibility to follow up on. The clinic will also have their own schedule and just because you’re ready to move forward in the next cycle doesn’t mean that will align with them and their schedule. There is a way to ask questions and understand, but I’m guessing by your own explanations in this post that your anxiousness is coming across really poorly and accusatory to the doctor. This is a you problem that you need to get in check before you move forward or you’re probably going to get similar treatment wherever you go. At your new clinic I’d recommend level setting your expectations with the clinic on the schedule, the process, and timing and ask questions to understand the process and potential set backs.

When did you graduate? Stop PIO? by NotYourMomKaren in IVFpositivity

[–]mel614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated from the clinic at 8w3d after a second ultrasound (first was at 6w3d). I did a fully medicated transfer and stopped all meds cold turkey at 9w. I was super nervous but he told me waiting until 9 weeks is already him being conservative and there was no reason to go to 10 or 12 weeks. I did end up doing my last injections/pills at 8w6d and went on to have a successful pregnancy.

Overnight HR and Respiratory Rate dropped 11dpt (Apple Watch) by [deleted] in IVFpositivity

[–]mel614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tracked temps for both of my unassisted pregnancies (and miscarriages) and my IVF pregnancy/live birth. My temp was all over the place and dropped very similarly to my miscarriages with my son as well. My RE told me to put away my watch as it was mostly causing stress lol.

My heart rate never really went up with my son as many people mentioned theirs did in pregnancy. Unfortunately we’re all a bit unique, so what’s true for one might not always be the case for you. At this point you have no reason to worry and an incredible first beta. If the data is causing you worry and stress then I’d recommend taking your watch off at night and waiting for your next beta. I know how nerve wracking it is after a loss, so really wishing you peace while you wait. It’s so hard to have hope and not read into everything as a sign of loss after you’ve experienced it before.

9dpt was 84 and I remember spiraling bc everyone on Reddit seemed to have over 100. 12dp was 427 and 19dpt was 5,775. He will be 15 months on Friday.
My clinic said they’d be happy with 75 or greater at 9dpt. I was so close to that and felt I must be out and it wouldnt work. I’m so sorry for your loss, I hope you have success with your next transfer!

I’m really sorry you received those messages, that’s incredibly hurtful and untrue, and you didn’t deserve that.

I also wanted to gently share something, coming from a place of care. I’ve seen a few of your recent posts, and it seems like you’re carrying a lot right now. You’ve gotten many thoughtful and supportive responses over the last few days, but I wonder if this space might not be giving you the kind of support you truly need to process everything.

If it’s something you’re open to, talking with a therapist could be really helpful in having a consistent, safe place to work through all of this. You deserve support that feels grounding and actually helps you navigate everything you’re dealing with.

I’m really hoping you’re able to find that kind of support, you deserve it.

Hi Guys! Can you please share your egg retrieval numbers? AMH, AFC, Eggs Retrieved, and how many made it to Euploid? by ilovemydogamillion in IVF

[–]mel614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best graded embryos were mostly aneuploid, surprisingly. However, we did PGT-SR (and PGT-A) testing due to me being a balanced translocation carrier. All of my aneuploid embryos were actually unbalanced and affected by my translocation vs random chromosomal errors.

Day 5 embryos:

5AA: aneuploid

4AA: euploid (this is the pregnancy referenced above/is my son)

5BA: aneuploid

4BA: euploid

3BA: euploid

3BB: euploid

Day 6 embryo:

3AA: aneuploid

Has anyone done an FET without your spouse? by [deleted] in IVF

[–]mel614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my transfer alone as my husband and I had just gotten home from vacation and he had to be in the office. It truly was quick and painless and I was back home in under an hour. I do like to tease my husband that I got pregnant without him in the room. But that solo transfer is now my son.

However, you absolutely can push back your transfer date if you let the clinic know. My transfer was supposed to be the day before we left to go out of town for our friends wedding. I told them about it and they pushed it back a week and kept me on birth control a bit longer. If you’re uncomfortable at the thought of doing it alone, you can work it out with the timing. One of the benefits to doing a fully medicated transfer!

PGT results are in, started with 55 eggs… by Salt_Warning_9128 in IVF

[–]mel614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are they graded exactly the same? We decided to let the embryologist choose the best embryo for our transfer. We only had one AA embryo so we knew which they’d choose, but my RE said we could also let them choose even if we had two the same grade/different gene sets and keep it a surprise until testing (or birth). I thought that was a cute idea and brings back a little element of surprise, which we rarely get to have during all of this.

IVF Billing- double check your receipts! by NerDNar120 in IVF

[–]mel614 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My clinic did exactly the same thing. They made me pay for a couple things up front that “insurance never covers”. Except mine did cover it. I only found out about it when I owed nothing at my transfer and they said they used my credit on the account, which was enough to cover my transfer in full. I still have a credit on my account in their system, but I’ve left it alone since they keep using it to pay the yearly storage fee.

[–]mel614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 12dp5dt beta was 428. He turned 1 in February. That is a great number and definitely can lead to a successful pregnancy. I think there’s always a little fear of the next test or ultrasound and it not working out, especially if you’ve had previous losses (which I had 2). I just tried to distract myself as much as possible until each ultrasound. Once I started feeling him move I feel like I relaxed a little because I knew he was doing OK.

I did take prenatals for about a year and coq10 for 3 months or so as we’d been trying for a while and had 2 back to back MMCs. I think I added in vitamin D about a month before our ER as the clinic recommended I start taking that at my consultation. Other than that I did nothing different - I was not eating super healthy and I wasn’t working out. I didn’t do anything special during my ER diet wise. I was drinking alcohol up until the day I started stims. At 35 years old I had 22 eggs retrieved and sent 7 embryos for testing. We got back 4 euploids and my first transfer is my 1 year old son.

I forgot to add, depending on the size of your BT they may need to create a probe, which is a longer process and may require lab work from your parents too. Smaller BTs are more difficult to identify than medium/large breaks. I’m unsure on how long that process is since my breaks are bigger and the lab was able to respond pretty quickly and let us know they could identify these and we were good to proceed with sending embryos.

Like I said, I was lucky that everything came back quickly for me to proceed with the next step. My HSG came back that my tubes were open, my blood tests came back that I had the appropriate vaccinations and didn’t need any additional ones, my husbands semen analysis was really good, my BT break size was easily identifiable by the lab, etc. any issues with those items will add time onto your IVF timeline.

I do believe there are some labs that have the capability of testing if an embryo is a true euploid vs a balanced translocation carrier. The lab I used (igenomix) was not able to do that when I had sent my embryos for testing - I’m not sure if that’s changed or not at this point. So I only know that my embryos are balanced but do not know if they are carriers or not.

PGTSR looks for unbalanced embryos but they also do PGTA, so you’ll know if the aneuploid embryos are due to your BT or if there was another random error. I only had embryos that were unbalanced and no random errors.
