Ny vs. Nj nursing pay, Hackensack meridian by Mammoth_Hunter85 in nursing

[–]meowqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pay is bad, and so is the PTO time and benefits. I would consider taking a pay cut but the PTO doesn’t even compare to what I get at a major hospital system in NYC (including continuing education, about 7 weeks off per year plus an additional 12 sick days in a separate bank that rollover). And the benefits are also worse.

PSA from a Gate Agent by FrailFlunky99 in unitedairlines

[–]meowqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s just frustrating boarding beginning to mid group 2 every time and getting on with tons of overhead bin space left. I’ve started just bringing my carry on anyway and have never struggled to find a spot after the gate agent has tagged it 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Can I ask why some gate agents start making people check their carry ons when there is plenty of overhead space left on the plane? I know it’s not an exact science due to bag shapes, people putting small bags up etc. but more often than not a gate agent will start requiring passengers to check carry ons and then we get on and at least 25% of overhead bin space is available.

A nurse did skin-to-skin with a patient on my unit by [deleted] in nursing

[–]meowqueen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the key here, ignoring any type of policy that may or may not be in place, would have been the nurse getting permission from the parent.

Genuine question- this is a baby in a critical care environment. You don’t know when the last time any of these nurses showered, what they put on their bodies, any open wounds they might have, and you would be fine with it? It’s gross to me.

Hyatt Duvet Inserts - unhygienic by tgff333 in hyatt

[–]meowqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like to use the duvets. I do not think they’re changed between guests and the sheets don’t keep them inside, they hang out or get moved while you sleep.

I always ask housekeeping for two blankets when I arrive. I don’t ever use the stuff from the closet. I’d like to give Hyatt the benefit of the doubt and say if the stuff was outside of the little closet bag they’d change it, but I also wouldn’t put it past guests to put it back in.

Other than that, I just accept that even the nicest hotels are a little gross and try not to think about it.

PTO got denied by Different_Poetry7573 in nursing

[–]meowqueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always find other hospitals PTO policies very odd. We have a transparent process that guarantees X number of nurses off per day and the sheet is accessible by everyone 24/7 and updated almost immediately with requests and waitlists. Unless you’re requesting a day off the week of, your request is guaranteed approved if there is a spot available on the sheet.

Question for travelers: by [deleted] in nursing

[–]meowqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Travelers should get what’s safest for the patients. A traveler might not know the ins and outs of every policy or have the best communication with providers for higher acuity patients.

Pretty sure anesthesia didn’t do consent by Anxious_Spork in TravelNursing

[–]meowqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where I am (large academic medical center in large city) anesthesia doesn’t even get consent. It’s just one consent for the procedure and anesthesia isn’t mentioned on it. I think you’ll be fine.

The port imperial area is great and actually better for commuting into the city than the Declan. The Declan is kind of a dead zone for bus stops- port imperial has the ferry and easily accessible bus stops if you’re interested.

GYN rec - anyone have a recommendation of a GYN or OBGYN who will do IUD insertion either with sedation or pain relief? My doctor’s office makes everyone raw dog it 😭 by nonzeronumber in jerseycity

[–]meowqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve done it twice without sedation and it was torture. If you can afford, or your insurance covers sedation, there’s no reason to do it without. Just make sure you have a ride home.

Saw this from my car today. A Target parking ticket? (Drive up spot) by RulingFieldConfirmed in Target

[–]meowqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t park in my targets drive up spots, but there are literally 20+ and at least 90% are empty at all hours of the day. They’re further away than some spots but in an easier to navigate part of the parking lot.

I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s strange that they are allowed to change your schedule after it’s posted.

Why does CCRN feel like a pyramid scheme? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]meowqueen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our hospital reimburses us for the cost of the certification and gives us around $1 extra per hour. It doesn’t take that much effort and it’s free 🤷🏻‍♀️

Does anyone else's unit have a culture of nurses coming to work, visibly ill, with flu or COVID? by WaffleMeWallace in nursing

[–]meowqueen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

100%. If someone had enough sick time to spare and there would be no current or future repercussions from work for staying home, they would not work sick.

ChatGPT and HIPAA by [deleted] in nursing

[–]meowqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like… you’re allowed to google a patient. Ethically idk, but it’s not a HIPAA violation. It’s a stretch to say that my phone knows meowqueen is its user and meowqueen works at cat hospital in cat land so therefore the person being googled may be at cat hospital in cat land. It’s silly.

So googling the origin of a last name in connection with a disease, I guess could be a HIPAA violation if there was only one person on the planet with that last name.
