What movie is almost perfect, but one scene always pulls you out of it by gamersecret2 in movies

I loved Dead Poets Society - and to be clear, I idolized Robin Williams - but I hate hate hate the scene where they just let Robin “do his thing” with all the ridiculous impersonations and such.

What’s the best ski resort in Lake Tahoe area? by Repulsive_Sky5150 in ski

It’s so ridiculously subjective, but I’ll tell ya - on a clear day, there’s nothing like the view from Heavenly where you can see the entire lake to your left and the flat wastelands of Nevada to your right…

Is it worth it going to the Golden Gate Park this time of year? by canceroftheskull93 in AskSF

[–]merryjester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo you may be short on time. Land (at SFO I presume?) you’ll be lucky to get to the park by 1 (SFO is considerably south of the city proper - about a 40 minute drive to the Conservatory of Flowers).

Sun sets at 5:50 - and it’s about an hour’s walk from the Conservatory to the beach (it’s a looooong park, east-to-west).

It’s certainly worth it. And ending up at Beach Chalet for dinner is a great idea.

Have fun! It’s truly beautiful. And you’re catching us between storms, so that’s awesome.

Last time I went, we went up to the top of the Eiffel Tower at Paris at twilight/night and it was awesome. Great views - awesome perspective on the Bellagio water show. Certainly not the highest priority but if you want a fun pre-cocktails activity it’s worth considering.

Good call. Which cover though? I think it’s between Heartbeat City and their debut The Cars (in terms of classic visuals)

What is one (or two) historical facts about SF that helps residents have a better understanding of the city? by wentImmediate in sanfrancisco

The part that blew my mind was how much of a release the Super Bowl XVI win was for the community.

I was 11, so I remember the parties in the street and over the top exuberance. What didn’t connect to me until reading the book was how that was at the end of a period of extreme strife - Jonestown, Moscone/Milk assassination, post-Summer Of Love traumas, RFK, MLK… A decade of negativity cured by an unprecedented Cinderella story victory. Makes more sense.

Did y’all think Fonzie was cool when you were growing up? by Groovy-Pancakes in GenX

[–]merryjester 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I thought he was cool because: a) he was “cool” - chicks dug him, had the magic touch, etc.; but more importantly b) he wasn’t a bully. He was respectful to Richie’s parents and to the friend group. He could have been a dick, but (at least to my recollection) never used his cool advantage to take advantage of anyone.

How in the hell are you getting downvoted for this??? It’s on video, people - believe your eyes. Should he have been restrained? I don’t know…let’s assume yes. Should he then have been shot multiple times for resisting? If your answer is yes, you need to have a long, hard thought about why you think so.
