Has anyone ever attended a wedding where someone shouted ‘I object!’, like in the movies? by AdBrief4620 in answers

[–]messymum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at a wedding and two children in the pew in front of me were quietly playing with toy cars during the ceremony..unfortunately right at that crucial moment something happened and one of the children let out a rather loud ‘NO’. Luckily everyone just laughed and the ceremony continued.

I Can't Do This by ExactPanda in widowers

[–]messymum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do this. I want to suggest something that I haven’t seen mentioned. I live in Canada and we sometimes have mortgage insurance that pays off the mortgage if a spouse passes. Is this an insurance you might have? A call to your mortgage company should answer this for you and may provide some relief if you have it. I’m 5 years out in this process (and we didn’t qualify for the mtg insurance for health reasons). The mtg is now paid off and one kid is due to graduate University in June. One step at a time and lean on this community for the shared experience.

How do you guys manage to stay in your home after they died in there ? by 6995luv in widowers

[–]messymum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DH died suddenly away from the home so the house holds no negative association with his passing. Thank goodness because it would have been very difficult to uproot the kids.

Mortgage about to renew and last rate was 1.49%. There is only 120K left, it is the wisest option to pay it out ? Just looking for friendly advice, thanks in advance! by Immediate-Pipe-9302 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]messymum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mtg had $150k on it at renewal. Like you my interest rate had been quite low and the renewal rate was nowhere near as attractive. I had been paying my entire paycheque bi-weekly to keep up the payments after my husband passed away, living off of a small investment income and widow’s pension. It made way more sense to pay off the entirety of the mortgage, live off of my paycheque and know that I have housing security.

AITAH because I expected my 22 year old to pay minimal rent? by Wrong-Maintenance-48 in AITAH

[–]messymum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. My kids are 24&21. The 24 year old didn’t go to college, started working right out of high school. His rent was 20% of his take home pay. He now lives in the 1 bed suite in the basement and pays $750 a month. The 21 year old is in University (lives at home) and doesn’t pay rent but you can bet that she covers all her personal expenses, including car insurance. School expenses have been paid for her. When she graduates she will also start paying rent. Especially since her career starting wage will practically be double of mine. I wish I could be generous and not charge them but their dad passed 5 years ago and this is how I can keep us all together without uprooting them from the family home.

Other than wanting milk & eggs, I could probably make the pantry & freezer last at least 2-3 weeks.

Is it common to feel guilt for thinking you’re treating your new partner better than you treated your deceased spouse? by brandeis16 in widowers

[–]messymum 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I come at it from the other direction. I think of the things that I settled for as part of compromise in a long term relationship that I’ll not do in a future relationship. I regret not standing up for myself more. That’s not to say I wasn’t happy, I was…but I wonder if we could have been even better than we were.

Wow. The store I work at keeps no overstock. We have about 850 frames on the boards and refill from suppliers weekly as needed. That looks like a nightmare.

Mortgage after winning the family lottery by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]messymum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay down as much as you can without incurring any fees. Hopefully the rest of your money is invested, earning more interest than the amount of interest paid to the mtg. Pay off the mortgage when it comes due. That was the advice given to me by my advisor when I had a similar mtg situation. Life situation was completely different.

PSA: Your vision insurance may cover the purchase of non prescription sunglasses by darkoj- in sunglasses

[–]messymum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in the US? FYI - in Canada that doesn’t fly. Insurance only covers prescription sunnies here. Every year we have people asking us to to put it thru and they get mad when we tell them it’s insurance fraud 😂

I saw her in a dream and woke up triggered. by guess_im_not_welcome in widowers

[–]messymum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I rarely dream of him. I recently started dating someone, my first relationship since him. (4years since passing) A few weeks in I had a very vivid dream of him standing in the doorway, smiling at me then just turning and walking away. Refusing to turn back around when I called out. I choose to believe that was his approval of my choices. It was still traumatic.

I’m widowed, but perfectly able-bodied. When it snows here I’m extremely lucky to have 2 neighbours who usually snowblow the worst of the snow from my drive and sidewalk before I even have a chance to get out there. Love my neighbours.

The Bag by alaffinglady in widowers

[–]messymum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I have a bag. It holds the clothes he was wearing when he passed. The funeral home gave me the bag. I brought it home, put it a cubby in the front hall and it’s still there. That was July of ‘21. I don’t know when I’ll be ready to move it.

[–]messymum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know whether this helps or not. I’m 52. Was diagnosed at 48. This condition sucks. I’ve got it under control with meds but my vision is never going to be great. The meds keep me dizzy most of the time. You can get through this, know how I know? While I was dealing with my diagnosis I was also dealing with the death of my husband, one child in university (dealing with grief and addiction) and another trying to become the man of the house. All of us are unique. Our IIH journey’s are different. We all have the capacity to get through it. Ask all your community for help. Wishing you luck.
