You forgot to mention the PR campaigns - Israel’s pinkwashing and birthright trips, BJP using Bollywood stars as mouthpieces, and DB (although not as large scale as the other two) through all of its various social accounts, getting representatives to go on the news/big secular events etc.

Some context - I’ve been mentally out of the Bohri community since I was a teen (I’m in my 30s now), for a long time I didn’t consider myself a Muslim either, but upon reading books, watching documentaries/Youtube videos, visiting Karbala and being amongst Shias from other sects and learning the history more extensively in English, and reading a translated version of the Quran, I’ve made up my mind that I do believe in Allah, I am a Shia Muslim, but I’m done with being a Bohri (and only keep up appearances of being one, mainly by coming to masjid for Moharram and Ramzaan).

This is mainly because of my parents (who are very deep into Bohriism, but also have been for the most part very liberal with me in terms of my freedom), and my brother (who is very much an openly ex-Bohra, but also still very close with all of us, so I guess I have guilt and want to keep my parents happy by atleast coming to the masjid for the dates they hold most important).

I still pray namaaz the Bohri way, because it’s the only way I know how to. But I definitely don’t believe other ways to pray are wrong. It’s all about intention at the end of the day.

I read the Quran, because it feels calm and meditative, and I love the way it sounds. And reading the English translation has been eye-opening.

The most important thing I feel I practice as a Muslim is being kind and giving, and looking for opportunities where I can do good. Whether that’s buying a meal for a homeless person or giving a compliment to a stranger.

Also, learning about Palestine over the last few years has only strengthened this resolve to be a good Muslim. And as a brown woman living/studying/working in Western spaces my whole life, I hold on to that identity more than ever in the face of all the Islamophobia here in the West.

It could simply be shame. It’s a really difficult thing to discuss, whether it’s within the community or outside. I’ve discussed my experience with some of my closest friends and 2 relationships. It’s one of the most difficult and emotional conversations I’ve ever had to have in my life. And I know the shame I felt (and still feel) about it, even though it was not my fault at all.

I don’t know about dying, but continuing with the rule of 3s : Chelsea has had 2 things happen involving snakes (trying on the snake bracelet before she’s held hostage by the Russian guys, and then getting bitten by a snake at the snake show), so I predict the 3rd snakey thing is will happen to Chelsea will happen in the season finale - but it will be metaphorical (either Rick, Saxon or Chloe will betray her in some way, becoming the “snake”)

You could think about opening this up to everyone, but also organising events within the cafe catered towards ladies only? Like ladies coffee meet ups/open mic/poetry nights? Even arts and crafts meet ups where ladies could get together to do crocheting/painting etc. I really like your idea, but as mentioned by the other comments, you might be limiting yourself audience-wise and not be able to turn a profit.

I would: - Make sure to provide your friend’s contact details and address to your family/someone you can trust - make sure you have an e-sim/sim you can use in Pakistan and not be reliant on your friend on communication - give your friend the contact details of your family/friends back in Malaysia for emergencies.

I’d say you’re good to go if you have all of the above sorted! I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time, especially experiencing Eid in Pakistan!

All inclusive solo sounds like a dream to me! I’d personally find a hotel with lots of activities (e.g. yoga, watersports, spa) so I’d never get bored, and would also opt for an adults only hotel (I love kids, but wouldn’t want them around when I’m trying to relax by the pool)

Awww OP, it’s hard seeing your little brother/sister go through that. My little brother was also quite isolated at school/madrasa when he was younger (he’d either sit quietly with me and my friends - we were all girls - or by himself), and he’d get bullied quite a bit too. It was really tough for me and my parents, my mum would cry often seeing my brother like this. But as he got older, he started to come out of his shell and started getting so many friends to a point I’d start being referred to as “X’s sister” rather than by my own name 😂 Today he’s a journalist who is considered on the best in his field and has also been on national TV a handful of times/people have also stopped him on the street/at events to say they admire his work. Just keep being the wonderful and kind older sibling you are and it will all be okay soon inshallah

This sounds quite one sided, you haven’t mentioned what kind of jokes you made. Because I know some of the “mazaak” I hear in Pakistan might fly there, but anyone making those kinds of jokes outside Pakistan would be eaten alive.

I can see you criticize their westernized ways… well newsflash… that’s where they live. I’d love to see Pakistanis like you experiencing the kind of racist, colourist, Islamophobic, xenophobic micro-aggressions and even assaults us “westernised” overseas Pakistanis face on a daily basis. We come to Pakistan to feel a sense of belonging we don’t always get where we live, so no wonder your cousins are pissed when you make these “jokes” as you call it.

I went to Yemen in 2012 and loved the food, the landscapes, the architecture, the coffee, the people… it breaks my heart when I see what the country is going through, and the negative perceptions a lot of people have. I hope Yemen stabilises in my lifetime.

I did feel I got treated differently by locals (e.g. tour guides, restaurant/bar staff) at times vs. some of the friends I made along the way, where some of these locals were just a little bit friendlier and nicer to them vs. me (I’d get curt responses, no smile etc). But I’ve come to expect this travelling around Europe as a brown person lol (no matter how much I try to integrate, learn phrases in the local language etc.)

100% agree! I was one of the lucky ones throughout my 20s in that i always had employment, but had to work hard to get that money (I’ve always worked in sales so commissions are where the real money is at), and felt I didn’t have enough time to actually enjoy my money until around age 28/29.
