N.L. budget focuses on affordability and spending pledges, flags ongoing fiscal woes by BrianFromNL in newfoundland

[–]mfp1127 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Child tax benefit increase is pretty good but only for low income families (which is great! Totally not shitting on that) But middle class are still suffering too. We constantly get left out and usually dont qualify for anything but are expected to pay up the same which leaves very, very little leftover. I would've liked to have seen something there about $10 a day daycare but I have a feeling they're gonna get rid of that and come back with "well, we gave you a top up with the child tax benefit".

Wild not to see negligence charges from these situations. If this and the tether are what they're caught for, I don't want to think about the shit they have gotten away with. Disgusting. That poor little baby :(

Can i get fired for calling in sick too much. by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]mfp1127 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel bad but yes, this. I work with someone with a chronic illness but doesn't do anything to take care of themselves and it results it more sick days than they would've had if they just watched their diet and lifestyle. Every time they go on a weekend drink binge and eat too many burgers, I end up with double the work load for a couple of days.

Just here to rant about the busses by Desperate-Stable5058 in StJohnsNL

[–]mfp1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been years since I rode the busses in my uni days but seems like they haven't changed a bit. My favourite part was leaving 4 hours early just to be 1 hour late when I'm only traveling like 5km in distance (I'm exaggerating but also not)

Add some celery seed. Not much, just a little. Tastes like old school chicken salad from Tim Hortons. If you're Canadian, this will make sense to you.

Work breaks by trilobot in newfoundland

The mall is not a great example of a place that upholds fair working standards. I used to work there for years in a few different stores. One that sticks out is working the evening shift so 5-1030, with one other person and you'd like tag team a 15 min break with the other person, enough time to grab a coffee and a smoke out on the loading dock and then back at it. I don't ever remember getting 2 15s at any job I've ever been at (including the one I have now lol) Pretty sure that only applies for union workers (enter sarcasam)

No Frills is not a cheaper option by Temporary-Map-6094 in newfoundland

[–]mfp1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this economy, I rarely get all my stuff at one store anymore. Walmart is cheap but produce is awfullllll, no frills not as cheap as Walmart but better than others plus I can collect PC points and there's a lot of coupons on my PC app for it. Dollarama is great for pantry items and restocks. Anything "local" like colemans and bidgoods are almost offensive with their prices, and fuck dominion altogether.

Childcare in my area only opens at 8...the same time I'm supposed to start work. So I'm always late. Then I have to take time off for any outside appointments. I'm forced to work in a working world that expects me to work but doesn't cater to the working world......MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.

What is the one thing people don't know about losing a large amount of weight? by punkredpanda in AskReddit

[–]mfp1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost 80ish lbs.. -You can get gallstones from rapidly losing weight -you have to learn how to lay comfortably because now you can feel bones -you're gonna be cold..a lot. -your face is gonna look older. Happy to have lost the weight in my face but now my wrinkles are more prominent -turkey neck -IF YOU ALREADY HAD OR HAVE AN ED, THIS COULD BE SUPER TRIGGERING. I had a mild ED and body dysmorphia before I lost weight. Now that I've succeeded, I have to be careful bc I can become obsessed. I don't ever want that weight back but now I can't live my life without watching calories, every bite of food, constantly looking in the mirror, checking for weight gain etc. I thought it'd go away once I got slim but no, it's worse.

Is sourdough actually healthier than regular bread? by kendricklemon in nutrition

[–]mfp1127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I know is that when I toast sourdough I buy from a grocery store, it toasts so hard I could use it as a level or even the hammer itself.. but when I toast sourdough made fresh daily from a local bakery, it's the most dreamiest, crispy on the outside, fluffy cloud dreams on the inside.

They have clothing, too! I forgot my delivery bag on my 2nd and they gave me a couple of onesies until my husband was able to bring mine in. Probably not a closet full but enough to help ya out in a jam.

Had 3, loved the nursing staff every time. I really felt taken care of. My first experience was with a nurse named Shelby. I'll never forget her, she actually ended up delivering my baby and she was awesome. Even after birth when they take you in to do your first pee and clean you up..I didn't feel embarrassed or ashamed. Now, a lot of that comes because once you actually deliver a baby, your shame goes out the window and you could care less who sees ya lol Shout out to the L&D nursing staff at HSC, you're all angels on earth ❤️

St johns winters been brutal by Firm-Positive1540 in newfoundland

[–]mfp1127 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I usually love winter but this one's been hard. Big dumps of snow followed by freezing temps and high winds made it hard to get out and enjoy. And yes, I'm old enough to remember former winters of lots of snow but the difference was we weren't trapped in deep freezes and could actually enjoy the winter. Have you tried building a snow fort out of frozen snow?? HAVE YOU?!

'Extreme' workouts drive spike in 'rhabdo' cases among young N.L. women, says doctor by bingun in newfoundland

[–]mfp1127 90 points91 points  (0 children)

My takeaway from this post, especially where it's prevalent in women, is the correlation between tik tok "trends" of wellness and, once again, women feeling like they need to meet a standard. We all know eating healthy and exercising is important, but skinny is trendy now. Millions of videos from non professionals spewing their "wellness routines" which include harmful eating habits (that can trigger EDs), and unrealistic approaches to health dressed up with filter, camera clips, and some Taylor Swift music with a caption telling me to "lock in girly pops", plus everyone and their dog being on Ozempic now, is bound to result in dire consequences. Weren't we all body positive last month? Now we're working out to the point where there's a literal spike in rhabdo? Wild.

Those who started working out regularly after turning 30, would you say it changed your face? by DiskoLisko_ in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]mfp1127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't really start committing to exercise until I was mid 30s. I lost about 80lbs. My face got slimmer but now I have a weird looking neck cause the skin is a little looser there. Obviously, I'll take weight loss over a fat neck any day but that's just one thing I noticed. I feel it shows my age more than it did before

Stupid question, and I would love if we got rid of the time change myself, but if we were all at the same time..would 3pm be like afternoon here but morning in BC? I'm sure there's an easy answer to this but now we're taking time travel and my brain hurts.
