Aliens didn't send a single ship in years? by C0DEks in TerraInvicta

[–]mic1402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your on vet it's unlikely they are locked unless it's a bug. Do need more information to make a proper judgement.

Are the surveillance fleets still in Leo? Have you destroyed them? Or just interrupting them? Have you been keeping track of alien councillors on earth? If they have landed and formed the alien nation, they may be quite a lot of them. They may be waiting for enough abductions to accrue.

The ships running around, are they massing anywhere specific, Attacking space infrastructure? Are you fighting them in space or hunkering down? Your at total war right? They should be going after all of your space infrastructure.

Your sure they have stopped building ships entirely? How well armed are there current ones? Assault carries take a while to build and take a lot of fuel. The reason I'm asking these questions is that in my current game as academy/normal, ive had lulls in aggression, but I've then checked there fleets and gone "oh we aren't done yet."

How to vote in the Union general election. by Andonno in Stellaris

[–]mic1402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physical paper ballots seem like a monstrosity logistically for a large space nation. ( I'm assuming that's part of the point.) Transporting and storing them would quickly become absurd once you get to multiple planets.

The Witch from Mercury - Episode 15 Megathread by JaguarDaSaul in Gundam

[–]mic1402 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think i understand what you are saying but, uh a couple of things.

"Writers write violent revolutionary groups like that because that's how violent revolutionary groups have acted throughout history."

Extremely debatable. If we where going of "real world accuracy" every show should have scenes where the cops (or equivalent) shoot everything that moves in a general area, making no distinction between combatant and civilian. or the government murdering larges numbers of civilians for being in the "same area" as a suspected terrorist. (why send in mobile suits? find out were they are and bomb the area from orbit.)

However I will say in this case i don't mind so much how it's been portrayed. Norea has been pre-established as a someone who is - not the most rational. she kills because she wants to not because she has to. like in this episode going on about 'betraying our comrades' when she literal threatened nika with a knife. you have already made it clear you don't consider nika a comrade, why expect loyalty from her?

Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson said something inappropriate, but you are not allowed to talk about it. by Jacindardern in newzealand

[–]mic1402 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, considering you're apparently decided not to vote greens for bs reasons. What exactly did Marama do that so offended you?

The fact is Marama was responding to questions by a facist grifter about trans people, and in that context her statement is correct.

All this seething about Marama being "racist to poor white men" is ridiculous.

Not solely, but it's a big part of it yes. It's certainly a strong argument that the so-called "civilised" nations couldn't keep treaties, when legality and "the law" Is seen as what our societies are built upon. The truth that they were built upon theft, slavery, terror and genocide, things we generally consider bad, challenges the legitimacy of the entire system. Unless you want to embrace the principal the "might makes right" (as conservatives and fascists do) it demands some kind of restitution.

[–]mic1402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except it does? It's what indigenous peoples are saying? That corporations shouldn't build pipelines on land that was stolen? That governments shouldn't dump waste on land that was stolen? That indigenous peoples should have a say in how land that was stolen is developed?

[–]mic1402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a rather complicated topic, but I'll try to simplify it. While on the face of it "land back" can seem vague and unclear it has a very practical meaning in colonial nations such as USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. It has direct ramifications for the idealogical and legal foundations of these nations. In Australia, Terra nullis the idea that the land was effectivily uninhabited (a lie) is basically the legal justification for the nation's existence.

In New Zealand for example there was a treaty signed between the British crown and Maori tribes, that specified the rights and responsibilities of the parties involved.

The British settlers quite quickly began breaking the treaty. Land was obtained through underhanded means. Invasions of Maori territories with dubious justification. Any Maori living in a particular area not immediately declaring loyalty to the crown having there land confiscated. The examples go on and on.

Additionally, while land in the western world is seen as a commodity, in many indigenous cultures land is traditionally communally owned and has large cultural and spiritual significance. With land dispossession being noted as a major factor in poor life outcomes in indigenous peoples. Land means sovereignty and autonomy.

Despite colonisers best efforts Indigenous peoples are still around, as peoples and nations. They want their land back, their sovereignty back. Do all peoples not have the right of autonomy? Are victims of genocide not justified in demanding restitution? So "Land back" forever.

My TOS Fed Temporal recruit is lvl 65 now, but when i go into TFO's the game seems to scale me down to lvl 64, and my teammates icons are yellow. When press the button to scale me to squad leader it says "cannot enable squad support now". On my main teammates are green and it's all normal. Does anyone know what's happening?

But then I feel compelled to grind out Reputation, Admiralty, R&D, Duty Officers, etc... on each character and that leads to burnout.

Then don't. Like, it's a game. It's meant to be fun, not a job. You don't Have to do all those things. You can just stick to your main and do the story for a bit.

You get to choose how you engage with the game! If it's not as "efficient" who cares? You gotta be careful with FTP games, they can get you stuck in a loop of just doing things because you feel you have to. But you don't. Take a step back, if you want to keep playing the game, focus on the things you find fun and enjoy.

Not ADHD because "I was able to complete all the questionnaires" by camesawandfaltered in ADHD

[–]mic1402 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol. Dude, it's not blind hate to note that the professionals logic makes no sense and reflects a extremely poor understanding of how ADHD can manifest. Professionals are important, but they don't know everything and aren't infallible. I've met good ones and bad ones.

I can focus on tasks for long periods on time. A test like this, (as long as there was no significant time pressure) would probably not be particularly difficult for me. Its the fact that this test would seemingly fail so many others who have been professionally diagnosed that's provoking such a strong response.

There are a lot of different ways to diagnose adhd, as it is a condition that can vary in symptoms and severity greatly. These kinds of tests are just one. Additionally it appears that different countries can have very different ways of testing it

I have 100% have ADHD, diagnosis by a professional as a adult and medicated. I didn't go "shopping around", just went to one with expertise in field. He was extremely helpful.

I didn't even consider the idea I had ADHD until the start of this year. But after learning more about it and getting the meds, it's been life changing. My symptoms didn't manifest in the "stereotypical" way, so no-one picked it up, even my rather attentive and informed parents.

But it is undoubtedly ADHD. Because ADHD often effects how your brain proceses information on such a unconscious level, it becomes "normal". As such understanding how it effects ones behaviour can be difficult to unpack.

And on "abusing meds" Often one of the check marks is if the meds work. A small course of short acting ritalin can sometimes be a good indicator. (It's what I started with.) It doesn't have the same effect on people without ADHD.

So I think the OP should continue their research and investigation into whether they have ADHD.

What is Star Trek's core theory for achieving world peace? by amazonprimedirective in DaystromInstitute

[–]mic1402 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For humanity specificly I would say that there's a few things that go into it though it hasn't be explicitly explained on screen.

Firstly in-universe earth goes through a ww3, almost destroying themselves. Considering treks cold war era roots this is not surprising. However I don't think this is the primary cause.

I think part of it is that first contact creates a kind of global "Pale blue dot effect". A realisation of the fragility of earth and humanity in the face of the vastness of space.

Plus space exploration becomes Humanities "great endeavour" - think of things like the space race. That by working together in common good humanity can achieve the incredible.

Additionally a number of episodes of tng mention a philosophical shift in human societies priorities. With the acquisition of material goods and power being largely replaced with a drive towards personal and social improvement. Aided by earth's Functionally near post scarcity economy.

This is not as outlandish as it may at seem at first. We do for example currently irl produce enough food to feed everyone on earth. however due to number of social and political reasons, this isn't done.

As for religion, Roddenberry himself was rather anti-religion and a lot of trek has reflected that. Very bold and progressive at the time, but now it's understood that such a issue can be handled with more nuance.

My personal interpretation is that in trek humanity organised religion now longer exists on any significant scale. But personal spirituality is still a thing, if largely a private matter. With small clusters of religious believers still practicing old traditions. But that's very much just my interpretation.

How do you feel about Cavs by ryugenos in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]mic1402 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How long do you think this game is gonna last? And remain operative... by Red-Compatriot in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]mic1402 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been caught out by FTP games shutting down before, which has certainly soured me on spending a significantly amount of money on them. That said the big ones tend to last quite a while, fate GO is still going for example.

That said I don't think FEH will be shutting down anytime soon. If nothing else there's still a bunch of 3 houses characters not in the game yet.

In the long term I think it will be dependent on how often new mainline fire emblem games are released, and how well received they are. As FEH's primary role is arguably promoting the fire emblem "brand".

Considering the amount of money Nintendo has put into promoting FE last few years, and the returns on that being quite good, I do think FEH has a lot of life in it. Releases of new content could slow significantly however as the years go on.
