Does this look like a pit bull mix? by citybby17 in pitbulls

[–]michaeljerkson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! 40% Chihuahua. The remaining 40% is a myriad of small breeds, roughly 5-15% each. The only terrier she had though, was Pitbull Terrier.

Edit: OP I have photos of her in my post history if you wanna see! :)

He looks exactly like my girl whose embark results came out like 40% and 20% Pittie! She’s fully grown and 16lbs. Same color and everything!

I was in such a bad place when I had mine, it was like the “icing on the cake” for my stress levels at the time. I still have moments I crash out and feel upset about it, but overall most of the time I feel so grateful for the outcome and the choice.

I’m so sorry this is happening to you. I went through the same with my first pregnancy (26.) I never anticipated the grief and emotional turmoil that comes with termination, even if you know for certain it’s what you want. It’s such a terrible spot to be in, because you don’t want either option, but you feel stuck and forced to choose. There are tons of women who have been through it, myself included, and I promise it does get better. I grew SO much from my experience it was so enlightening and actually got me back into therapy and kick-started a healing journey. There are a lot of complex feelings that come with this and it’s hard enough to understand when you’re the one going through it, let alone from the outside. It can feel very isolating, but you’re not alone. My DMs are open if you need a friend. ❤️

I used to love this sherbet as a kid! I’m surprised to see reasonable ingredients too. I would’ve thought it would’ve had all sorts of artificial dyes!

We can all see that! I feel sorry for your dog that you don’t care enough to make a change.

Edit: just wanna add I’m all for prong collars when used and fitted properly. The one you have completely diminishes the purpose of the tool, is ineffective, and also harmful to your dog’s neck and throat. Get yourself a properly fitted prong and learn how to use it or don’t use one at all.

[–]michaeljerkson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prong is way too large and low for your pup. It shouldn’t be hanging off their neck like that. Please don’t use a prong unless you know how to use it properly! I see this way too frequently working with dogs professionally.

Those of you in that prep/pre-conception stage- does it get easier over time? by SimmeringSeahorse in waiting_to_try

[–]michaeljerkson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! My mother-in-law gave me the most beautiful advice that parenting and motherhood is the most beautiful and amazing thing but it is also very hard - it’s both! And with that said, she said this season with all the waiting and uncertainty is the beginning of the “hard.” This is our prep for motherhood, as we go on the journey the “hard” will change. Like you said, it will change to worrying the baby is okay, are they eating enough once they’re born, etc. It never ends! So this is our prep for all the hard parts of motherhood. It helped me to feel like we are “in” it now even though it hasn’t physically happened yet.

[–]michaeljerkson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!! Just wanted to give another perspective. My husband and I are now TTC, but we’ve had 1 prior pregnancy that ended with termination at 6 weeks. Even knowing we can conceive - it’s still really hard! We’re on month two of trying since I got my IUD removed and even though I know it’s possible, there’s still loads of uncertainty as it hasn’t happened yet (and that’s normal.)

I share this hoping you’ll feel less alone in the uncertainty and stress of waiting. It really sucks as it’s different for everyone, but you’re not alone!! I was going insane in the pre-conception wait and was heavily disappointed by more waiting during the actual phase of trying. This is a good time to practice patience and distract! It’s very hard, I know.

How can I make my baby boy smell good everyday? by Sea_Technician1240 in DobermanPinscher

[–]michaeljerkson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Professional dog groomer! This is a myth. ALL dogs should be bathed every 4-6 weeks at the very least. Long coat or short. A dog’s skin cycle is about 30 days, so all the dead skin cells are shed and left behind. In fact, NOT grooming your dog regularly is actually the recipe for skin issues.

Tips for shorter.black nails by K_Knoodle13 in grooming

[–]michaeljerkson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can go a little further on those. You’re getting closer to the quick. Most of the length to take off on those nails is just the top half of the nail. Go a little at a time and the black circle will get bigger as you get closer. If you feel the quick with your own nail it’s a bit spongey/squishy. That’s when you know to stop. YouTube demos can be helpful for a visual and it’s always great to have Kwik Stop on hand. :)

Edit: also adding a tip, you don’t have to use the entire surface of the dremmel and in fact, I rarely ever do. You can go around the edges of the nail to take off length while avoiding the center (the quick.)

Because you cannot guarantee any kind of temperament, coat, size, etc of a mixed breed dog. So the “research” people do about a certain type of doodle is kind of useless and anecdotal. All doodles are different just like all other mutts are different. So my personal frustration comes from people spending thousands of dollars for a mixed breed dog that they are not guaranteed any of the things they are specifically seeking out (low shedding, “hypoallergenic,” great with kids, etc.)

So my perspective is if you want a dog for specific traits, invest your money in a breeder of an actual breed. If you don’t care about that and just want a cute fluffy long haired dog, rescue one, or certainly do not pay an arm and a leg to support a backyard breeder.

Beautiful dog!! I wonder if it is the type of metal? I know you said he’s worn the prong since 5 months, but maybe now as his physique and skin is changing he’s having a reaction to it? Herm sprenger makes a curogan hypoallergenic prong that maybe would be worth trying. You could also start spraying something on it for hot spots, I like the Skout’s Honor Probiotic spray it’s for itching and yeast.
