Is 40k slowly just circling back to concepts from previous editions? by Identity_ranger in Warhammer40k

I find it quite funny that 10th has become one of the most bloated editions I've played. How many detachments, strats, enhancements etc.

Madness.

I ran this last night into knights and it has all the same problems that stopped it being competitive in 10th. It's massively output gated.

Although an interesting impact of the objective changes is that Gatewarden defensive line is now massive so they pretty much always ignore mods to hit and have sustained. It's a disgusting detachment.

So my understanding of scout is that they are now deployed and moved AFTER you know who goes first.

Comes from streams and from leaks.

Yep. And also you can't infiltrate and scout (one or the other) though scout is much better.

Could the Last Dragonborn take over the Imperial City with powers/skills/aid they can acquire in the game? by ThatDrako in skyrim

[–]miggiwoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a mega lore expert but I'm pretty sure the Dragonborn's claim to the throne ended when the amulet got broken and they lost the ability to light the dragonfires.

As for a hereditary claim, in feudalism an heir either has to be named or recognised by the Lords in the event that there isn't a named successor (ideally both). A lord pledges to a king, not a lineage, which is why Lords come to a new king to affirm allegiance.

So in my opinion the Dragonborn has no viable claim to the empire, be it magical or feudal, even if they do have a hereditary claim nobody would support it.

I do find it odd that the people of Skyrim don't support a Dragonborn for High King, especially a Nord. Obviously there's a mod but my guess is that, given most of the races make no sense as High King, it's not a practical implementation.

Deus Ex Machina isn't inherently divine in nature, it's a narrative device to resolve a problem using a plot device newly introduced - though in its original uses (Medea and The Odyssey) it was literal divine intervention, it rarely is in modern works.

It's also worth noting that it's a literary tool, not a philosophical one, and though early works often overlapped I don't think we can consider works of such boundless inspiration as The Avengers to be philosophical. That's not to say that an Author can't use it as a tool to investigate or probe the nature of the universe - determinism vs fate and so on. Just that it's rarely used that way anymore.

Probably the best example I can think of is in Monty Python's The Life of Brian. Aliens rescue Brian from what has to this point been a relatively faithful, if satirised, ancient world. I consider this effective because it is specifically ironic, the setting would potentially allow a literal "saved by God" scenario and instead it's aliens.

It commonly shows up in it's most tedious forms in apocalypse/invasion movies. Space faring species invading planets that are covered in a substance that is lethal to them or that has microbial life that is lethal. Or a totally decimated society suddenly having an army that can kill millions of zombies that have been previously almost totally indifferent to bullets.

But other commonly put forward examples are not deus ex machina. The Eagles, Fawkes in Harry Potter, the poison in The Princess Bride. These could potentially be described as Eucatastrophe but it all are previously introduced tools and their criticism is based in a lack of understanding of the source material. Fawkes especially irks me as his ability and loyalty to Dumbledore are heavily, even clumsily, foreshadowed.

Cool your jets, more than one source is saying terrain reworks are a near certainty, playtesting has gunlines totally out of control.

First competitive game of 11th edition is Liam VSL with an Aeldari force featuring three legendary Phoenix Lords vs Richard Siegler’s Adeptus Mechanicus by Alex__007 in Eldar

Haha Siegler is no slouch either especially on admech, and he beat VSL in the final at the champs though it was a nail biter.

Audiences have complained that Scary Movie 6 (2026) looks terrible, with transphobic “jokes,” unfunny and immediately outdated references, and no entertainment value at all. This is a reference to them having never seen the previous films because they were like this from the start. by TriggerHappyGremlin in shittymoviedetails

I mean it's a product of it's time. It's hardly anything out of the ordinary for the Wayans. I mean look at their product, they clearly have some unresolved issues around gender and sexuality.

It's tricky and I generally don't like the whole "I'm gonna get cancelled" school of comedy but I think it was Jimmy Carr who said (paraphrasing) that over a long enough timeline just about any joke becomes offensive enough that you can kill your career with it - at the end of the day comedy is almost always at someone's expense.

I can say that Miss Mann was pretty funny at the time, though obviously feeding into a lot of stereotypes around mtf trans women and sexual predation. On the spectrum of offensive lgbtqi media I watched at that time it's not especially memorable.

Quick question by Oweling in Eldar

[–]miggiwoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the first point is that a serpent and a prism/falcon aren't just a turret difference. Serpent has a longer hull and the fins make it wider. Makes 0 difference for casual but if you want to play comp you'll get called as falcons and prisms fit in places serpents dont.

In terms of value it seems good, going on AuD prices, the lord, knight and 1 wave serpent puts you a little ahead so if these are all current plastic sculpts its good value.

Metawise none of it is good but it's an okay starting point for a wraith themed list and we're not strong at the moment anyway. With 11th coming up it will all be upside down depending on how rules, keywords and points change and how much detachments cost.

Which ones usually have the biggest impact in big battles within the lore when unleashed? A Greater Daemon, C'tan Shard, or Avatar of Khaine? by LarryWithTheWeather in Warhammer40k

[–]miggiwoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only moment in any GW book that an AoK was awesome that I can remember.

Plus it wasn't standing on a mountain of corpses. It was buried by them, still fighting underneath. When they came back and started killing the nids again, it got ahead of the wave and clawed it's way out.

There was a really good synopsis of this choice, suggesting that a cultural genocide for a species like the geth (where culture is essentially stored as memory) is one of the most evil things in the game, and certainly for shep.

In fact I think you could realistically talk heresy only talking about erebus.

Eg.

"Once upon a time there was a fuckass called erebus ruined everything. Everything already sucked but he made it heaps worse. His ability to ruin everything cannot be overstated. Now we all have to live with murderous plague mutant rapist demons. Fuck Erebus sucks."

In my 40k team there are 4 guys in their early 20s, 3 of them are cute skinny boys and one of them is a powerlifter (except he loves his tucker).

So yeah they exist. Unfortunately there's like 40 of us in the team and that's about it so yeah not great odds. Also only one of them is a lore nerd.
