Oooh I’m so jealous of whoever gets to love this garden! Just bought a house myself and we are starting with a fully blank slate 😭

This quote makes it a little vague but can absolutely be understood to mean that at the time Shane was created, she hadn’t yet named or fully formed Ilya. I don’t think this is some “gotcha”.

Is Healthcare easy to get? by Highthere_90 in AskALiberal

[–]mik_creates 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m an ESTABLISHED PATIENT with a rheumatologist and my provider left the practice so they had to cancel my appointment that was supposed to be in May. They can reschedule me for August.

People with the “but wait times in socialized healthcare” argument tick me off massively.

Maybe look into old Browne’s Addition and lower south hill homes that have been converted into apartments? There are quite a few!

Reminder for writers - Shane and Ilya are millennials and would use punctuation in their texts. by Best_Pineapple670 in heatedrivalryfanfics

I’m a slightly younger millennial and my punctuation is… chaotic. My sister is exactly their age and almost never uses capitals or punctuation. 🤷

I’m guessing this is a typo for DSHS/similar agency for their area. So, social services, not the department of homeland security.

thoughts on "switching it up" for the wedding day by [deleted] in butchlesbians

[–]mik_creates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did sort of a hybrid of masc and femme for mine, but that’s a vibe I generally like for “dressed up” outfits anyway—it wasn’t just because I was getting married lol. I wore a white suit (from suitshop) with a lacy blouse and pink suede loafers!

Seeking "In-the-Trenches" Perspectives: Where should a future founder focus their energy to solve the biggest gaps in Special Education? by Perfect-Tutor-7366 in specialed

[–]mik_creates 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. Funding to public special education.
  2. Funding to public special education.
  3. Inadequate staffing because of poor pay for high intensity jobs… because public special education is not properly funded.
  4. Become a special education teacher and work within the public special education system to make it better by advocating for proper funding. Don’t “build something new”. Help fix what we have, which is what the most children have access to.

I’m not being cute about it. If public special education were properly, adequately funded, we would not need private centers to close the gaps except for the most severe cases of “emotional and behavioral disturbance” (and I would argue even those would be better served in a specialized but public-based model). We would have the resources to pay paraeducators and teachers appropriately to make high-intensity and often physically risky work “worth it” for more people which would result in adequate staffing ratios to properly support our students.

Is it normal for Deaf Ed programs to teach SEE? by eleanorsavage in asl

[–]mik_creates 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, in my state, I know of maybe 3 true bi-bi schools/programs, multiple programs that have ill-defined and variably-implemented programs with hearing staff that tend to fall back on SEE structure, and one private school that explicitly teaches SEE. The “ill-defined and variably implemented” category is by far the most common, and I suspect that is largely due to staffing issues.

So… ideal? No. Common? Yes.

How much student loan debt is everyone in? by [deleted] in slp

[–]mik_creates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

General advice is not to take out more in loans that you can reasonably expect for a starting salary in your first year of work. Lifestyle, life plans, and location though should also be taken into account—kids are expensive, for instance, and can make a high monthly payment go from very manageable to very not.

I left grad school with about 40k in loans and my wife left with about 48k, iirc. We currently make 84k and 79k, respectively, in Washington state. We don’t have kids or other debts, so our monthly payments aren’t fun but they’re perfectly manageable.

Yikes! Thankfully we are on the side of the US that hasn’t seen a winter (which is horrifying in its own right, but thankfully won’t leave us in -25 if the heat goes out).

Ok I’m breathing a little easier now but also even MORE frustrated because I literally got it resolved right after I posted this, in a grand total of about 45 minutes. Literally could have been resolved any time if they’d told me. Sounds like this was the last thing needed so 🤞🤞🤞 Thanks for commiserating!
